Christine Q. was my Occupational therapist for my right hand/wrist. She was familiar with my treatment plan, & actually cared about my recovery. She carefully explains each exercise, what she's doing & how it can help. I loved how she managed to give me her full attention as she was working with other patients. She has worked very hard each time I was here for my therapy visit. And again, I cannot thank her enough. My right hand/wrist has made a lot of progress & I am ready to return back to work. I am very grateful that my primary doctor referred me to this wonderful place. And above all, every staff member was compassionate with treating their patients with care. I know if you use their services, they will do the same for you. Thank you, Cal Rehab for continued help & support during my hand/wrist recovery process. My review is for 5810 Downey Ave, Long Beach, CA 90805, inside the LA Fitness gym. (Used to be the Esporta Fitness gym)

Dr. Christopher J. Combs, MD Orthopedic surgeon…read morePLACE DETAILS Photo of Eric Mercadel Eric Mercadel just now I had surgery on Jan. 8, 2025. I also had staples in my knee and they were taken out 2 days when leaving the hospital. I did bleed a little bit and butterfly bandages were put on. I had in home therapy for a few weeks with a outside therapy company who came to my house with no complications! Starting on 2-10-2025, I went to Dr. Combs therapist and on the 2nd appointment, one of the therapist dropped my leg on the table and telling the head therapist my leg slipped out of his hands! Ever since then, my leg has been declining! I tell Dr Combs about the incident each time I see him once a month and it seems not to faze him one bit! I even had a second opinion with his colleague Dr Andrew J Wassef, who immediately saw that I had water in my knee! Dr Combs didn't even see that after all the months I have seen him!!!!! I asked Dr Wassef the injury I had at the therapist office could have caused the water in my knee, he said yes! Dr Combs ran all kinds of tests on me with negative results. They cannot tell me why my knee is still swollen(possible water in knee again), giving out on me, painful, stiff and still clicking. The Dr's pulled 1oz of water out of my knee which showed negative infection. These doctors rather have me to do the footwork to find out my own problem! In my eyes, this is very UNPROFESSIONAL and I cannot deal with this! The medical Review Board will hear about this!!!!

A Recovery Journey Worth Celebrating…read more After major neck surgery, I specifically requested Southland Physical Therapy by name--and they exceeded every expectation. This facility became my path back to full conditioning, and I'm grateful for every session. What struck me immediately was the diversity of the patient community: athletes training for competition, working professionals recovering from injuries, people of all ages united by one thing--a willingness to do the work. That environment itself became motivating. The entire team deserves recognition. Every therapist and PTA brought expertise and genuine care to their work. The operational excellence impressed me too: reminders arrived the day before appointments, they consistently ran on time despite high volume, and every interaction came with a smile. A special acknowledgment to Conner, who balanced knowledgeable instruction with the perfect level of challenge. Each week, he pushed me just beyond what I'd accomplished the week before--exactly what I needed to progress. Beyond physical recovery, Southland reminded me of something essential: how to stay positive regardless of the challenges we face. That lesson extends far beyond the treatment room. If you're willing to put in the work, this is where you want to be.

I was waiting to write this review but my recent experience over the phone just pushed it over the edge. The front desk staff makes me feel like I am bothering them. Even checking in- come on it's part of your job!! Looking at previous reviews it seems like it has been an ongoing issue. I was overcharged on my first 2 appointments and ended up with a large credit. I was notified the therapist I was working with was leaving and the only other therapist that has experience with my issue does not have availability for a few weeks. So I wanted my credit back as a check- it showed on my insurance application that the claim was processed so I called in. I spoke to Jaden and she said that it was not sent back to them yet so they would call me back when it did. I confirmed with them that they would call me back and she said she wouldn't just leave me hanging.. Then I said thank you, bye and she proceeded to just hang up without any bye or anything. I don't know why every front desk employee seems like they are miserable working there- not sure if it is management or just all of their bad attitudes every time. Won't be returning. Please retrain the front desk!! Makes me feel uncomfortable interacting with them.

Not only did he successfully rehabilitate her injury, but he went far beyond traditional physical therapy. Dr. Ngo focused on why the injury was happening and gave her the tools, education, and confidence to prevent future injuries. What stood out most was his ability to explain complex concepts in a way my daughter could truly understand, digest, and apply to her everyday training and life as an athlete. Clinically, he is incredibly knowledgeable and precise--but what truly sets him apart is his ability to tap into the mind-body connection. He helped my daughter trust her body again, move without fear, and mentally prepare to perform at the collegiate level. That kind of care is rare. I genuinely cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Ngo. We will absolutely continue to work with him--not only for our other children, but for ourselves as well. I would confidently recommend him to anyone: geriatric patients, adults, children, athletes, and non-athletes alike. If you're looking for a physical therapist who treats the whole person, Dr. Ngo is the one.

To my amazement, only two months later I completed a full half marathon -- something I never thought would be possible again. If you're dealing with an athletic injury and feeling defeated, but you're willing to put in the work, I highly recommend giving Dr. Ngo a chance. His approach truly works.

I had a successful left hip replacement 2.5 years ago by another surgeon who used a more universal posterior approach with MAKO robotic assist, so I have a good point of comparison. Dr. Wassef uses the DSA (Direct Superior Approach) with MAKO robotic assist which is currently a less common method due to the specific training and technique required to do this approach (google DSA to see differences). In simple terms i have been blown away at how minimally invasive this approach seems to be. Without a doubt, to date, this technique has been less painful than my previous hip. I am so impressed at how quickly I was walking normally without a walker or cane and without any limp. At 2 weeks in I am in PT doing exercises that i could not get to many many weeks beyond the 2 week point with my previous hip. Incision is quite small as well but i am not a "meaty" guy so not sure what allowed me to have such a small incision. Lastly I have NO problem taking narcotic pain meds like oxycodone! I'm not an abuser but definitely a willing user if need be. After this surgery I had real trouble justifying much of any use of the Oxy prescribed. I easily survived on two 500 mg tabs of Tylenol 2x's a day once in AM and once before bed. Thanks Doc.
