At the end of 1 month we reached out to them and shared a list of each positive benefit directly or indirectly related to hiring them as personal chefs. I would like to share this list with you (reader of my review): 1. My husband and I spend more time together. 2. We portion control better. 3. We work out more (have time to work out). 4. We feel better: less groggy, less irritable, more energy. 5. The food they make tastes flavorful, wholesome and satisfying. She had heard of this dude from some friends, and since my mother and I are very much into eating, drinking, and being merry, this was a perfect present. According to his press packet, we had the choice of hosting a dinner party, taking private culinary classes with Chris (knife skills, learning basic sauces, creating a meal step by step right beside him), or having him prepare us a series of meals for the week that he will package up and be ready for heating whenever we wanted. We didn't get around to scheduling something with Chris until November 2010. We decided to do a simple dinner party. Chris was super-easy to work with regarding scheduling, and then went over and above the necessary service in designing the perfect menu for our party of five. Despite a shellfish allergy, a nut allergy, one guy who doesn't eat most vegetables, and a mushroom hater -- he put together a menu that made all five of our mouths water. On the day of the party, he arrived at my mother's house three hours early to prep. At first, because she has an open kitchen, dining room, and living room set-up I thought it was going to be weird to have Chris cooking and all of us lounging around, chatting about everything from can-can dance to cancer, and drinking in his earshot. Chris was personable, chill, and really easy to talk to PLUS he was a total ninja in the kitchen and prepared a four-course meal from scratch without so much as a clang of a pan. As he was the chef corresponding with me throughout the entire process, I was quite surprised when another chef showed up at my home. There was no notice from Chris that he was unable to attend my event. The meal was served on time though the corn on the cob was not included. There has been no explanation about why it was not served even though I saw the corn being shucked. The lobsters and steamers were over cooked. It was difficult to get the lobster meat out of the shell and the steamers were chewy. On a positive note, the corn chowder, coleslaw and potatoes were delicious! There was leftover chowder that everyone enjoyed the next day. Communication regarding my concerns following the event was very slow. It took several phone calls and an email to get a response (I did receive one voice message and then nothing). In the end, I was disappointed with the handling of my concerns and with management.

I began by looking for a catering service that was generally organic, farm to table concepts ~ which is what The Kitchen Porch is all about ! Over several weeks of planning done through emails and phone calls I was pleased to work out details for our event with wonderful suggestions from Jan as the owner, directly. The hardest part became making a selection from all the delectable options available. I found it easy to work with them to accommodate our needs based on budget and what fit the occasion. She was able to modify the menu in any way that would be needed such as to balance elderly guests, mixed with younger guests, vegetarians as well as meat eaters, as well as deliveries, set-up and all the details involved along the way. When the day of the event arrived, we found everything went seamlessly, the staff had everything set up in a beautiful presentation, with the food delivered throughout the reception in a well balanced manner, every time a new tray was presented there was a new delightful tasty nibble offered, every bit as yummy as the last. The balance of food was perfect, we did not run out of anything, and everyone found something they liked. We were not left with a "heavy" food "overload" feeling, but with light fresh foods, and refreshing drinks which included cucumber mint flavored water and a light fruit punch.
