Raytown Chimney came out and went above and beyond to find out what was wrong with the dryer vent. We were home waiting for him. Our gas fireplace insert has been shutting off intermittently. Sometimes it works fine, other times it will run for a bit and the flame will disappear. The tech turned on the switch and the fire starts. He says it working. There was a huge language barrier. I have many clients for whom English is a second or third language. I usually have no problem understanding. But the tech and I were not communicating well. Basically he said the intermittent flame happened at his house too and it was because of winter. He also said that we needed to put batteries in the holder for when there's no power. It states right on that auxiliary starter box: "For use only during power outage. Do not leave batteries here permanently." However, he was adamant in wanting me to leave the batteries in the holder. He could not read the instructions. He said the area under the fireplace was dirty and I should clean it. I suggested that since I was paying a $69 service charge that maybe he should clean it. Then he asked me for a rag, which I provided. He was completely ill prepared. No vacuum to clean or any tools at all. I was unsatisfied with his lack of explanation on the intermittent flame. So I pressed him further. He said it could be the fuse. I asked him if he checked the fuse and he said no because there was fire and everything seemed to be working. He was not interested in checking the fuse. Nor did he check the thermocouple, ignition device, or the pilot light. I got the impression he was ready to go to his next appointment after six or seven minutes and just wanted his $69. At that point, I just wanted him out of my house. Completely terrible experience and absolutely worthless "service". Yelp should NOT be recommending Chimney Sweep "Pros"! It's a con.

We have a Buckstove wood burning stove which was installed, then after a remodel reinstalled (2009…read moreand 2024 respectively), and today had an inspection of the stove at the start of the winter season. The communication was the first thing to note - phone calls, text messages to confirm the appointment. Then the morning of a phone call to let us know the men were about 45 minutes away. They arrived as stated, noticed a broken baffle and firebrick which were obvious to see, quoted us a price, had those supplies on their truck, and all was repaired and in good order in 45-50 minutes. They looked at the inside of the flue, checked the structural integrity, cleaned up after themselves and made it cleaner than before actually....great job all the way around. By comparison, we had tried earlier in the season to go with a Miami/Grove fireplace shop, but it was horrible and we never did see them. That group had made if for a day, 1-3pm. When I called the office they didn't know where the crew was. I called again at 4 and the office lady said she would call the crew. About 4:20 I got a call from the tech and said he would be about 25 minutes. That came and went and about 6:15 he said he would be there about 7:45-7pm - by that time after wasting a whole day inconveniencing us, our work and much more, we said forget it...and called who we should have in the first place, The Fireplace Shop in Joplin - tried to buy local to Grand Lake area, but learned our lesson well.
