We had a bad experience with Premier. The decking they installed developed cracks and splits after a few months and they left a line of stucco drips on our driveway. The stucco work also cracked and buckled. Also, there are brown drips down the side and front of our house b/c of an unsealed joint and drainage issues w/ a glass-front deck. We reached out to Premier owners Jake and Chris numerous times over several months to ask them to fix these issues but, they refused, saying that they're "so busy they don't care." Premier left us with an expensive mess. Caveat emptor. read more

I got an estimate from Jake nearly two weeks ago, and really liked him and his product sounded very good. I have since contacted Premier fence, leaving two voicemails and finally speaking to a man named Dylan. I have yet to receive a quote. I do not understand why they would string me along, I was ready to go with them, and after nearly two weeks have given up. Wow! These guys did a great job building a trellis as part of a large backyard remodel. When I use the term "trellis," I am not referring to a simple trellis along a fence for planning vines. This is a large, cantilevered, multi-level design intended to extend over a pool deck without support in the front (for aesthetic and safety reasons). The design was pretty complicated and attempted by 2 others before Premier who were unable to come up with something structurally sound, i.e., that wouldn't collapse. Jake was our designer and he was personally involved from beginning to end. He even stopped by several times a day during construction to make sure things went according to plan. While this was not built within a couple of days after contracting with Premier, as I would be reluctant to use any company that is available immediately, the project was started on the date promised and completed, including staining, on time. It only took 3 days! As a homeowner who has remodeled their entire house over a period of several years, I was amazed that this was done on time without any mistakes. That just does not happen. As part of this backyard remodel, we worked with 3 separate contractors and, as expected, only one actually delivered what they promised (our pool contractor--Padilla Pools). Premier Fence wasn't even one of our contractors, but a sub of another contractor where things were already, unfortunately, upside down and contentious. It was a pleasant surprise that they were so professional and, regardless of any issues with the contractor, they delivered exactly what they promised. This is indeed something very hard to find. While I have used and relied on Yelp reviews for many years, this is my first review. I never actually planned on writing one myself, but because I am so pleased to find a contractor who actually delivers, I felt compelled to write one. read more

My vinyl deck had 29 scuffs/scrapes from Chris (builder) before the build was complete. It was not built to the size that I requested and contracted Premier to build. Dan refused to replace any of the scuffed boards. He insisted that a heat gun would get rid of the scuffs, but all it did was add a 2 inch shine around the scuffs and he even melted and bubbled the vinyl in 2 spots. I was told my expectations were too high. Yep.. Those exact words in an email. When it was pointed out that my furniture doesn't fit properly and when I measured, my deck was built shorter than was supposed to be, Dan told me it was their mistake and he would fix it but wanted me to make the final payment first. I was not comfortable and for obvious reasons, did not trust him what so ever.. I paid 3/4 of the balance until fix was complete. He offered a discount for the wrong sizing but I explained my furniture doesn't fit proper and wanted the size fixed. Dan refused to fix anything claiming he felt I wouldn't pay the rest. I then tried to pay Taralynn with credit card over the phone to find Dan had refused the final bit owing and said he's not fixing or replacing a thing. I now have a permanent structure attached to my newly built house that is basically "here's my screw up and you're stuck with whatever I feel like building for you" Pictures are taken from inside, through the window. This company was hired by my neighbor to do wood fence just last week. These guys are just plain arrogant and have utter disregard for other people. Before they arrived there was a chain link fence on the driveway between us and our neighbor. These guys were not to touch that area. But they broke our chain link fence and destroyed the base units that hold the panel. Now both the panels fell down spreading all over the driveway and it was disruptive for us to park our car on our own driveway. As a part of installing the fence, when they needed access to our yard, we were polite enough to let them in and show the way. We felt shocked at the way they treated us. I learned a very important lesson ... always be sure that whoever comes to give a quote has FULL authority to deal ... she didn't. Everything was fine until it came to get dollar numbers from her. We had hired Premier Fence & Deck to install a large cement patio area. They provided us with a quote. We agreed on a price for removal and install of a new concrete pad. When they finished the job it was a complete mess. The job was not done properly. They had come out twice to try to fix the issue. The third time the owner came out and stated he wanted to install slate tile over his sub par cement job. We have an elderly tenant so this is NOT AN OPTION. If we had wanted slate or other materials we would have done this from the start. Since we refused to accept covering the sub standard work the owner has stated "we are done we will not be doing anything else for you." Needless to say we have contacted the California Contractors Board to resolve this. read more

Contacted Premier in June to replace a deck with better wood than redwood. Premier is the exclusive Bay Area supplier of Batu hardwood from Indonesia, which is less costly than Ipe from Brazil. Batu has a 25- year guarantee when pre stained and it still costs less than Ipe. We contracted for an early July start. They showed up on time. Took 2 weeks to set the posts and joists, I think 32 for a 550 sq ft deck. Then the deck surface was completed with blind fasteners the next week in time for our yard party. They were tardy with supplying the estimate and, belive it or not, the final bill - almost 8 weeks late. But Jake and Chris delivered a beautiful job that no other Bay Area builder could provide. Want great upscale result, call Premier, but it's important to be very involved in the management of the business side of your project with them. read more

I was given the number for premier fence by a friend of mine who knew I was in need of a new back fence. From the first conversation I had with Adrian, the sales rep, I had appreciated his quick responses and straight forward business etiquette. The crew arrived first thing on the morning scheduled and worked passively throughout the day. A large 63 foot fence with a slight incline angle was done within 12 hours spread into two days. Not bad for a 2 man crew. When the job was finished I was impressed and needless to say blown away by the professionalism. $20,000 for a gate??? Jake what are you thinking? After months of begging for someone to finalize my fence quote? Are you serious? Premier Deck and Fence is a massive waste of time and ridiculous. I called months ago to get them to come over for the quote based on their website. The guy came over and seemed very nice who was to give me a quote. Then....nothing. They had all my information. I left messages, called them, sent them messages thru Angie's list, etc. nothing. Finally, I pretended I never called them before and asked them to do my fence and gate quote again. I live in a nice neighborhood, I have the money for a fence...what was it? You didn't like what? I was polite, I didn't say anything bad. Was it because I was female??? You should have been upfront about the fact that you didn't want my business and the reason why. If you can't supply the gate then you should have said that. Out of the three qualified bidders, they also had the highest fence cost. So don't waste your time with this outfit. Also they quoted $6k~ for a Douglas fir fence when I asked for Redwood fence. I mean seriously incorrect quote, not correct materials, highest bid by more than 1.5x. Don't bother. Jake even told me when he came that the administration office was a complete mess. Premier deck and fence went from my top pick to a no pick. I even sent them and email to ask why they quoted what they quoted and their was no response. I thought it was an error. Nope. I recommend you go to another fence contractor as these guys are clearly disorganized and have bad service and quoting techniques and treat their customers this way. Wow...WOW WOW! Tim Tennyson and his crew did amazing work on my fence. They were very professional, timely and had the best rates around town. Tim has a happy personality, willing to work with you on price, design and timing. We hit some roadblocks with extremely wishywashy neighbours who changed the entire fence design the evening before installation, did not want to cooperate taking responsibilities to clean their yard brush, started nickel and diming everyone involved, but Tim was there to handled it all and managed to resolve the issues amicably. I am very grateful for the great work Tim and his team undertook and we are extremely pleased with the end results. They are going to replace my back fence in 2 weeks,again- no problems -different neighbor. So you can see the problem. My wife and I are more than happy with our new deck and fence that was built by Premier Fence and Deck. The workmanship, materials, and "can do" attitude of the management and construction crew were excellent - resulting in a first-class job. I discovered this company by contacting the Northern California distributor of an Asian hardwood called "Red Batu". This decking material is almost as dense as "Ipe" but is less expensive and, in my opinion, better looking. The distributor gave me a list of several retailers in the area. I called Jake, the president of Premier Fence and Deck, and he invited me to see the product at his yard. I immediately drove down to the yard and was quite impressed with the quality of the "Red Batu" and the price that he was offering for all of the decking materials. I was also impressed with "Jake" and his Dad, "Chris". They were personable, direct, and very interested in my job and offered many ideas that eventually helped to improve the project. In these first discussions, Jake mentioned that his dad ran construction crews that built decks using "Red Batu" and he offered to let me view a project on a large deck that the crew was finishing up. I drove down to the construction site and was immediately impressed by the quality of the job that his foreman "Salvatore" was doing. I then showed Jake and Chris a detailed design sketch of my deck and they agreed to visit my home so that I could explain the project details at the construction site. We immediately "hit-it-off" and I agreed to have them build my new deck and the surrounding fence. An important feature of the new deck was the incorporation of a new hot tub. This required a deck with three levels with a custom bench and railing. The design is such is that the hot tub looks "built in" but still allows easy egress and maintenance access. They offered several design improvements - most of which I incorporated into the final design. The deck substructure was supervised by Chris, who came out to the site to position the deck support posts according to my plans. Salvatore, a craftsman with many years of experience building decks, was the deck construction manager. He was assisted by Mario, another experienced deck builder. The whole project took nearly a month with a rain interruption, and the results are terrific. It turns out that "Red Batu" is somewhat difficult to work with. The wood is so hard that each board needs to be pre-drilled so that the stainless steel screws can pass through wood without breaking. Fortunately, Premiere Fence and Deck are experts in this regard. Salvatore also took extreme pride in his work and was a master at making "perfect cuts" at complex angles. This gives the deck a very professional and clean look, which my wife and I love. Because the people at Premier Fence and Deck were so easy to work with and their craftsman ship was superb, I also decided to contract with them to build a 7-foot privacy fence in the part of the yard where the hot tub is located. We decided to use a "Piano Key" design which turned out to give us privacy while not looking as tall as it actually is. I give Premier Deck and Fence my highest recommendation - something that I do not often do. I am a professional aerospace engineer and I usually pride myself in building (over building) projects that last 40 years or more. I can honestly say that Premier Fence and Deck did as well or better than I could of done in significantly less time. I will not hesitate to hire them for my future landscape or decking jobs. Premier Fence and Deck just built a redwood deck for my husband and me and they did a beautiful job. It was not simple - there were lots of steps, complex angles, and a built-in angled planter box, and it all came out perfect. Enrique and his helpers were very skilled, hard working, careful, creative, and meticulous about following the plan, doing everything just right, and keeping the customer happy. This customer is very happy! We enjoyed working with Jake, who bid the job, was very attentive to our needs and cooperated fully with us and our designer. Premier's new office manager, Jessica, was very helpful and replied promptly to calls and emails, so I think the communications problems mentioned in some earlier reviews are a thing of the past. My fence was falling apart and held up by cargo straps. I called Premier to come out an engineer a fence that would be strong enough to withstand the wind and weather. The finished product is beautiful and I feel this fence could probably survive a category 5 hurricane. The overall workmanship is excellent and many of the details are more than I expected. For the second time in three years, I called Premier Fence and couldn't be happier with the job they did. Three years ago Chris built a perfect gate and utility enclosure for our home and this call was to replace a side fence that fell down over the rainy winter and add a gate for access to the back yard. My request for a bid was answered in a day, the estimator came out the following week and the job was scheduled for the following Thursday. The installation team exceeded my expectations with their can do attitude. When they were short materials to off-set the gate a foot from the center of the fence, which was necessary for a clear access, he called the office and obtained the required lumber. When a landscape pipe broke while digging for a post and he didn't have the right part to fix it he let me know. I bought a replacement from the local store and he made the fix before leaving. We hired Premier to do our complete fence and 3 gates. Doug was very good about keeping in touch and has done a superb job. The only part that has been reported negatively was from my neighbor who had up a temporary construction fence between our driveways. I informed them that it would have to be unattached from the fence to remove and replace the existing fence. This construction fence has been in place for over a year and the temporary base was rusted and eroding. The day had been windy and the Premier work truck was parked in the driveway on our side and shielded the temporary fence from the wind. When the truck pulled out, the fence became a sail, due to the green shade screen material attached to it. It blew over and snapped the fence post at the joint in the temporary bases. I am embarrassed and appalled that my neighbor disparaged Premier in their Yelp post. Our neighbors behind us and on the other side are pleased with the results and did not have their lives disrupted by the project. read more

I had a great experience with Premier Fence & Deck. We had a small broken gate, and in the process of coming over to evaluate the necessary repair, they fixed it on the spot, on a Saturday! It took less than an hour. He then took time to secured some deck planks that needed some TLC - even though this were not part of our original request. He was very friendly and easy going while efficient and productive. While we only had a small job, I learned that Premier Fence & Deck owns and operates their own lumber mill/yard - so there are efficiencies gained that are ultimately passed down to the customer in the form of cost savings. I also learned that there are two other branches of the company: Custom Landscape Creations and CalCon Industries. They can be leveraged together to complete small projects to large landscape and home remodels.
