Just some of those very nearby attractions are the Edinburgh Castle, the National Museum of Scotland, the Greyfriars Kirkyard cemetery, the Royal Mile, and the Grassmarket Market commercial district. Besides that and more, there are a ton of pubs and other eateries of all sorts of cuisines close by. Then there are their normal hotel amenities. It's a spacious hotel housed in a historic building built in 1892. The room we have is cozy and comfortable and we even have a nice 2nd floor view of Edinburgh Castle. Their breakfast buffet is a delicious and large spread of classic British goodies. All of the staffers we have met are helpful and wonderful. The Hilton chain staffers are also always able to look up my Hilton Honors member number for points even though I never remember it. I can't give this Doubletree a bigger thumbs up. Thank you!

King Room: The room wasn't huge, but they made good use of the space. I wouldn't say I loved the TV stand being right at the foot of the bed, but other than that, there was just enough room to open my luggage comfortably. The bathroom was a decent size. AC, robes, ironing board, desk, wardrobe and mini fridge, all used and appreciated. Only downside: the room smelled strongly of mothballs. Overall Service: Check-in was at 3PM, but we arrived early and the staff gladly stored our bags so we could grab lunch and explore. Everyone we encountered, from front desk to breakfast staff, was extremely kind, professional, and welcoming. They hold themselves to a world-class standard of service, and it truly came across in every interaction. And yes, you do get a warm, baked cookie at check-in. Always a nice touch.

Any questions during our stay were cheerfully answered by the front desk staff. The hotel stays busy with buses regularly loading and unloading tour groups. There's an onsite bar, 24-hour coffee and tea, early continental breakfast starting at 5 a.m. by reception, and a full hot breakfast upstairs from 6:30 a.m., with plenty of seating both levels--just check the busy times. Our room was clean, comfortable, and cool. The shower could use an upgrade, but it had excellent water pressure. Room was attended to each day. Eventually we saw the port by the door where one is supposed to place your room key to turn on electricity. Lesson learned The bathroom appeared to be newly renovated and was smartly laid out. One note: the shower is walk-in but you need to step up. Each morning I heard my girlfriend hit her foot on the edge. I never did, but be aware. The place had a bar and served meals including a complimentary breakfast which had many options. Nice! I wish the room had a small refrigerator but I was told that is uncommon here. Luckily there was a grocery store within a five minute walk, so we bought lunches there for our daily sojourns. Staff offered suggestions for places to visit and eat and were uniformly pleasant. I'd have no hesitation to stay there again.
