They heard the residents like cattle into a common area and except for a few activities, let them sit alone and mostly unattended while the staff stare are their phones or talk among themselves. The food in memory care is bad and not nutritionally balanced. For example, they will bring a meal without ANY carbs, often neglecting to provide plastic eating utensils, a drink or napkins. If you're not there for every meal, you have no idea if your loved one is eating or not. If you speak to management, they will promise to do something, but they never seem able to resolve even the simplest of issues. Moreover, they NEVER follow up with status, no matter how many times you report the same issue. Management is generally unprofessional and pathetic! They don't clean the rooms properly and will make excuses or blame your loved one if you complain. Overall, most of the staff are indifferent at best. Most of the staff don't know how to deal with hearing aids so they usually sit in the charger. You would think this would be easy for a retirement home, but nothing is easy there. Again, if you're not there most of the time you'll have no idea what's going on.

My father enjoys the exercise classes, meetings, and meals in the dining room and with various groups. The food service is offered in a grill setting, carry out, and also a fine dining room which offers truly delicious meals. The facility is nicely sited within a neighborhood and seems the right size to our family - not too large and not too small. His apartment is spacious, comfortable and the right size for him. My father was initially against moving out of his home where he has lived well over have his life but is now so happy, busy, and engaged every day. He had to move into the nursing care for a few months for a severe wound to heal and has now successfully moved back into his independent living apartment.

There are options to dine in a casual 24-hour available cafe as well as a lovely dining room with excellent food. The staff is helpful and I've always them treat everyone with respect, kindness and and are willing to help with a smile and go the extra mile. There is every amenity possible, a broad array of "classes", beautiful choices in housing, swimming pool, gift shop, salon services, movie "theatre", game room, and so much more. My mother in law was at a Citadel nursing home prior to this and the two don't compare. Montclair is welcoming and friendly with a staff I trust to take care of her. The food is great-my mother in law looks forward to meals! Programming is good and they encourage her to be social. Walking into the building feels homey and comfortable. I have them in mind in case another relative requires needs similar services. It's a place that really cares.

Despite having a medical history of low sodium my mother's diet did not reflect that nor was she administered sodium tablets. When a medical emergency occurred as a result of low sodium and she vomited and fainted CBV staff just brushed it off. They did not filed an incident report. As a result of this she was eventually admitted to ICU. Besides this on a number of occasions we found my mother in bed in the morning fully clothed and even wearing her shoes, because no one bothered to help her undress the night before. The ICU diagnosed her with UTI which she didn't have prior to admission to CBV.

My grandmother has lived here for over a year due to her new diagnosis of dementia, There have been…read moreso many issues that we continue to deal with as a family! This facility does not make their elderly clients a priority, and it is very clear as to how it is ran! We almost had a med error as they have a patient at their facility with a similar last name and if family wasn't paying attention, she would have been given the wrong medication! We continue to have to call the facility to ensure that she is being showered, her laundry is being washed, and her room is cleaned appropriately! Of late, the biggest issue has been the facility being infested with big bugs, It took them over 48 hours to address while my grandmother slept on her couch because her mattress was covered in bedbugs and they told us there was no other place to relocate her to, So we took her out of the facility for four weeks so they could deal with the issue. After several emails and phone calls, because they do not do as they say they are going to do, they finally got her a new apartment and did not even bother to move all of her things. Our family had to take on the burden of moving her once again! We asked for financial compensation for the four weeks that she was not there at the facility and still have not gotten an answer and that has been over two months ago! We continue to be unhappy with this facility as they do not make their residence a priority. I do not recommend this facility to anyone for their elderly loved ones!

My mother-in-law moved into Asbury Court with her husband, she suffered from dementia. Good for him…read morebecause he is reasonably self-sufficient, but not so good for her. From what I observed Asbury Court is not well equipped to help elders who are in need of special care and especially those with dementia. Public Medicare assisted elder care care suffers from under staffing, low pay and unqualified caregivers who are not properly trained. Asbury Court is no exception. Their website lists memory care, please do not be fooled. The only memory care that I witnessed was over medication to be placed in a docile and non-functional state of mind and body. While some attendants are kind and empathetic at Asbury Court, many lack the skills and motivation to deal with difficult cases like my mother-in-law and her family members. Is there a better public funded facility out there for elders who suffer from dementia? I hope so, and maybe you can find one! Our baby boomer population generation is fueling a 75% increase in the number of people age 65 and older requiring nursing home care.
