They heard the residents like cattle into a common area and except for a few activities, let them sit alone and mostly unattended while the staff stare are their phones or talk among themselves. The food in memory care is bad and not nutritionally balanced. For example, they will bring a meal without ANY carbs, often neglecting to provide plastic eating utensils, a drink or napkins. If you're not there for every meal, you have no idea if your loved one is eating or not. If you speak to management, they will promise to do something, but they never seem able to resolve even the simplest of issues. Moreover, they NEVER follow up with status, no matter how many times you report the same issue. Management is generally unprofessional and pathetic! They don't clean the rooms properly and will make excuses or blame your loved one if you complain. Overall, most of the staff are indifferent at best. Most of the staff don't know how to deal with hearing aids so they usually sit in the charger. You would think this would be easy for a retirement home, but nothing is easy there. Again, if you're not there most of the time you'll have no idea what's going on.

The facilities were clean and easy to find parking at. There is a ton of extracurricular activities for the guests and residents too, such as gardening, painting, and movie nights. The food was standard, but there are also separate restaurants that offer food that's a little more high end. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars were because the rehabilitation bedrooms are a little dark and drab. And we also ran into one transport issue trying to bring my mom to Presence for a doctors appointment. She was late getting to the hospital and the nursing home claimed she was stuck in traffic. However, because I track my mother, I knew she had yet to leave the nursing home. I was disappointed that they lied instead of just saying that they forgot about her. Other than that, I would recommend touring the facility yourself to see if it's the right fit for your elder. In comparison to other nearby facilities, we were pleased and would send our parents back there for a stay if need be without hesitation.

However, I can honestly say this is the worst I have ever seen it. The administration has become one of the biggest concerns. Many staff members, residents, and families have expressed frustrations about leadership, communication, and decision-making. It often feels like concerns are not being heard, and there appears to be a disconnect between administration and the people they are meant to serve. Since the transition to Oakdale Senior Alliance, many dedicated employees who truly cared about the residents and their families have left or been let go. These were the people who helped make Norwood Crossing special. They created a warm, welcoming environment that felt like home and made Norwood a respected part of the community. Unfortunately, that sense of community has diminished. The facility no longer feels as clean, welcoming, or resident-focused as it once did. Morale appears lower, and the culture that made Norwood Crossing stand out has changed dramatically. It is heartbreaking to see what has happened to a place that meant so much to so many people. I sincerely hope improvements are made, but from my perspective, Norwood Crossing has lost much of what made it exceptional. Even long-standing community traditions and programs seem at risk of disappearing. This review is written not out of bitterness, but out of disappointment and concern for a community that I once proudly called home. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if the thrift shop is next. It's another community treasure that residents, families, and neighbors have loved for years.

We had done quite a bit…read moreof research and looked at three or four other communities in the region that were nice, but we ultimately chose Chestnut for a variety of reasons. First and foremost were the staff and residents. They were all some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met. Not only were they warm and friendly but extremely helpful and very competent, as well as accommodating. The food was excellent, and the entire building was very clean, well-maintained, and quite attractive. There was plenty of programming and amenities both at Chestnut Square, as well as a short walk away in The Glen Town Center. Just across the street is a beautiful natural area with paved paths, a lake, shops, and plenty of places to explore. During her time at Chestnut Square, Sandra made many close friends and even developed a wonderful, close, and fulfilling romantic relationship with another resident who lived down the hall. The most important thing, however, was the dedication the staff had toward the happiness and fulfillment of all the residents. It really showed how happy everyone was in the community. Pretty amazing! When Sandra's health declined and she needed more assistance, Chestnut Square was able to provide additional on-site support through its phenomenal sister affiliate, Partners in Healthcare. The caregivers from Partners treated her and her loved ones like they were their own family. This was all available in Sandra's original apartment with a very thoughtful aging-in-place model, so she wouldn't need to transfer to another floor or facility. The care was exceptional, providing her with warmth, dignity, and respect. It comes as no surprise that Chestnut Square (a non-profit organization) is driven by their dedication to residents as well as staff--who all seem to really enjoy working there. Our entire experience with Chestnut Square was wonderful and provided the whole family with tremendous peace of mind!

Brookdale Des Plaines, IL 3-16-25…read moreAfter almost 2 years of residency my opinion Brookdale Des Plaines remains the same...... VERY high marks for both residents and management with staff. In spite of a madcap rush of 40+ new residents caused by the abrupt closing of another "senior" facility up the road, management rose to the occasion over a 4-5 month period to get everyone housed and safely moved in. Toss in another round of Covid, the Flu and artic winter temps, the Holiday decorations were once again Rockefeller Center like. Residents long-term and new have blended together on a mostly joyful. and very friendly fashion. Management continues their top down approach to keep things running smoothly Access to top rated reliable medical care is always a growing need as we all get older. And when buying a house any good realtor will say.... LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION!!! This facility has it in spades as well as a an IN-HOUSE reliable bus service to get you to and fro. BDP SHOULD BE at the VERY TOP of anyone's list as a safe, extremely well managed plus welcoming home for you or your loved one. I invite you to read my previous more extensive reviews, or better yet call BDP and schedule a visit. A long term and well informed marketing team await your call. Again, I am in NO way associated with Brookdale and simply reside here as an 85 yr old slightly disabled male resident. 2 years now and still very happy!!! HOPE to see YOU soon!!!
