The sandwich was really good with soft and fluffy scrambled eggs accompanied by just a perfectly salty ham. The lemon ricotta pancakes were really good as well , just the right amount of tart from the lemon with a good amount of blueberry compote. My only star removed was due to some confusion with the delivery of our food and drinks. We almost received others' food and drinks a few times. We ordered the Shrimp and grits, and the table behind us had 2 shrimp and grits. So we got the first one and almost received a 2nd, and ai said wait that's not mine. The 2 plates were meant for the other table. Same with our sides. Sausage was almost delivered to us but we ordered bacon. The sausage was for a different table. There was one table on the outside area that was on an uneven surface, but once we moved tables, it was perfect. I lived eating outside under the umbrellas and had separation from the road by their bushes, so it was peaceful. I called several places in advance while planning my trip through Santa Barbara, which in general is not very dog-friendly. When I called this restaurant, I spoke with Erin. As soon as I asked about bringing dogs, her response was, "I'm not really a dog person, but we allow them as long as they don't speak and are better behaved than children." I assumed she was joking. The restaurant opened early and had been featured in a Santa Barbara article as one of the best places to take your dog (that article will be getting my next review). The next morning, I arrived and was warmly greeted by a nice hostess. However, my waitress was Erin, and I immediately recognized her from her tone. When she saw my two 10-pound Miniature Schnauzers, she acted as though we had a disease. She would barely come near the table and said, "Just so you know, the only time I've ever been bitten by a dog was at a restaurant," then proceeded to keep her distance. It was obvious she was trying to appear pleasant while making it equally obvious that she did not want us there. Ironically, my dogs never growl, but one of them actually growled during this interaction, likely in response to her aggressive demeanor. To avoid any issues, we decided to get our food to go. By the way, we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. There was no concern about other guests--just one employee who clearly should not be working in a dog-friendly establishment. After leaving, I opened my takeout container to find a terrible plate of biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. It was so poorly prepared that I wouldn't even feed it to a homeless dog. Overall, this was a disappointing experience and a poor representation of both customer service and Santa Barbara hospitality. read more

This is the perfect Santa Barbara spot for brunch! It's super cute and nestled off State Street and has a quaint friendly vibe with plenty of seating. We had various brunch options including their biscuit sampler and espresso martinis and then the main event included salmon Benedict with potatoes (served on their house biscuit OMG!), the house cheeseburger with fries and the scramble with veggies (forgive me I don't remember the name as it appears on the menu). The reviews didn't steer us wrong; we thought it was really great. The atmosphere was homey but refined--no greasy spoon, this. They had a fair amount of vegetarian items, which we appreciated. We couldn't resist getting a cinnamon roll, which was enormous and delicious! Went really well with their good strong coffee. I got the Avocado Toast, which had a LOT of avocado, with a little bit of arugula. It was very simple--just what I wanted. I stick to what I love and I don't mess around. The lemon ricotta pancakes with fresh blueberry compote, housemade syrup, and a side of bacon are my go-to every single time. Perfectly fluffy, balanced, and consistently delicious. When something works, I keep ordering it. Weekends are busy and if you've ever worked brunch service, you already know it's the worst. My neighbor invited me to have lunch with her for my birthday. She named a few places near us, but I picked I Scarlet Begonia because the food is consistently delicious, well-presented, and always satisfying. My friend ordered the Benedict and I told her that I've never seen a Benedict with greens, which is the extra step that Scarlett begonia takes to make their food extraordinary vs. ordinary. The potatoes were well prepared and there was so much food that she had to take half of it home. It was quite beautiful as you see in the picture and very tasty. I've eaten here a few times and once I tasted their lemon ricotta pancakes it is my go to Every time. Even though it was 1 o'clock in the afternoon, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat these fluffy and moist pancakes that are so light they melt in your mouth! I usually can only eat one pancake, but they were so good I had to eat two, so I indulged. I also ordered the sausage links for the first time and asked for them well done and they came out. Perfect! I needed the extra protein and I already had bacon at home so wanted something different. Those sausages were just delicious and a perfect compliment to the sweet blueberry sauce on the pancakes. Kaylee was our server and she was the most professional, accommodating, friendly, efficient server I've ever encountered in Santa Barbara. I asked her if she was a manager because her demeanor and professionalism was outstanding ask for her he won't be sorry. The cripsy capers were so delicious on the salmon. The bagels were nice and toasty and overall was super filling and great. My partner got the waffle with fried chicken. The chicken was juicy and the waffle was fluffy and crispy. The maple syrup was not too sweet. The dirty fries were fries coated with some sweet and tangy sauce. It was good with the flaky salt. It was also a relatively big portion and we probably would've been full without ordering it. Service was great and food was delicious. This place was recommended to me by another local business that I visited on State Street. While I thought that we would have a great experience that is not what happened. Immediately when you walk in, there is a sign that says seat yourself. My husband and I found a table that we wanted to sit at in the back near the kitchen, however it needed to be cleaned. We asked the waiter if he would clean it and he said, "NO, there are other table tables upfront. That took us by surprise because of the signage at the entry. We found another table on the back patio that needed to be cleaned and asked if that could be cleaned and the waitress walked by and ignored us. We moved on to another table in the main dining area behind the bar. That was a table for six. While we did not want to sit there for just the two of us. We did it anyway because we were not receiving standard service. When the same waiter, who told us, no, he would not clean the tables came over to take our drink order. We asked him why he didn't clean the table that we had asked for, and he said because there were other tables available, taking no accountability for us as the customer and obliging our request. The waiter took our order and we sat and waited. Approximately three minutes later the waitress who initially ignored us came over and asked us if anyone had taken our order? My husband and I looked at each other and laughed the same waitress who ignored us is now wanting to know if our order had been taken?! Make it make sense. When our order finally arrived, we needed salt and we asked the waiter for that and he told us to wait while he made drinks at the bar. Being a customer and watching you make several drinks we felt like the salt could've been handed to us and gone back to the drinks. I will not return to this restaurant based on the customer service alone. The food was decent, but not spectacular. What would have made this food of spectacular was the customer service that was received however that was not our experience. Had an amazing weekend brunch experience here. Went around 11:30 and it was not too crowded and we were quickly seated. The menu had so many great options and our waitress helped guide us to the popular favorites. We saw every table around us had an order of the dirty fries and cinnamon roll so we knew we needed to try them too. And we were not disappointed, not in the least. The dirty fries are amazingly savory with garlic and bacon flavors coming through. The cinnamon roll is warm with a cream cheese frosting that's killer. We decided to go big with just the two of us and got the brown butter buttermilk waffle with fried chicken and the carnitas breakfast burrito. We almost ordered the cottage cheese bowl but felt like we already were going to have a completely covered table, so that's on our list for our next visit.
