This is absolutely my favorite coffee shop in Atlanta. After returning from an extended-stay in Italy, it was difficult to find coffee that compared to the true Italian espresso. I'd been to all the other coffee shops in the area, and while they were decent, none compare to Press and Grind. The first day I walked in, I was immediately greeted by all the fantastic people working, and had a fantastic espresso. The coffee here is prepared exactly as it should be. The espresso is always pulled at the perfect temperature with a amber-brown crema, and is absolutely the smoothest shot I've had in Atlanta (and very decently priced). Since then, I can say I've definitely become a regular. I love the vibe of the shop. The music is always great, and never too loud when I come in to work on my laptop. There's ample seating, even on busy Saturday mornings. The staff, Jamecia, Dwight, Jennifer, Marand, Ally, Chris, Nakia, (and all the other beautiful people who I may have forgotten to mention) are always welcoming and smiling, and always ask if I'm having my "regular." The breakfast sandwiches are delicious and prepared in-house, along with all the fantastic pastries. While the cinnamon rolls and cakes are difficult to pass up (I also highly recommend the sweet potato biscuits), they also offer some fantastic paleo, vegan, and gluten-free goodies that are pretty much to die for. There's almost always parking either in front of the shop or directly behind in the designated parking lot, and if not, there are many places to park on Highland Avenue close-by. Press and Grind gets an 11 out of 10 in my book. read more

Yelp usually never leads me astray ... but this time, sadly, it did. A friend of mine and I are Chrome Yellow addicts but decided to try something new, since this was closer. I got a mocha and he got a cappuccino-not our drinks of choice but their menu is super limited and way overpriced. What we got was a super watery, nearly flavorless concoction-not at all worth the $5+ for a SMALL drink. And on top of that, we went there to work and their wifi was painfully slow. Do not get breakfast here. I tried two different sandwiches and they were disgusting! I don't know if they use powdered eggs and cheese or what, but they are gross. The egg was watery and there was no cheese to be seen on the sandwich...I'm pretty sure it's "mixed" in which is why I think it is powdered. The "biscuit" was stale (and I'm not really sure what it was...but it wasn't a biscuit) and the bagel was soft and grainy. I think the terrible sandwiches at Starbucks are better! I hate spending money on bad food. It is not hard to make a good breakfast sandwich and they don't have it down here. I like the atmosphere (with headphones since the baristas are constantly loudly talking with each other) and the coffee and had a good lunch sandwich here once but goodness, this breakfast one is TERRIBLE! read more

Ok, I have, to be honest, this place's layout is nice, but the food smell is too overwhelming. I walk in there, and I can smell it right away. I was there for 3 hours for lunch and coffee, and when I left the smell is all over my clothes and body. It's terrible for the owner to have this short sight when it comes to food preparation. Don't they know that a ventilator is needed to prepare food??? The service is pretty slow as well.There are two people behind the counter, and one is cooking, and the other is making a smoothie, and 3 customers waiting to order and no one is there to take an order. On top of that, the management has lied from day one about WIFI. I asked them when they first opened, and they keep lying that it's tomorrow, or it's coming, or we are working on it. I have been there many many times, and each time, they said the same damn thing. I just went again on March10, and guess what, the employee said once again that it will be tomorrow. TOMORROW MY ASS!! No more visiting from me...I'd rather go to a place that smells nice, has proper ventilation, and wi-fi for customers. I wish they are out of business soon.. read more

I finally got the chance to go to Press and Grind after reading many great reviews and seeing them at a recent race I was in. Yum! There are few places where you can get gluten-free/paleo baked goods along with an espresso. I usually just do one or the other. This will be my new go to! Really liked the ambiance, everyone was super friendly and I even dropped my pastry, like a dummy, accidentally in the trash (almost untouched!) and they felt so sorry for me that they gave me a new one. Atmosphere is good an staff are friendly. However, their prices are higher than Starbucks. It took about 10 minutes to get a smoothie I ordered, which was only okay. I don't think the fruit was even close to being ripe, so it had a bitter aftertaste. As with other reviews, I asked about the WiFi, which is supposed to happen today. Sounds like they've been promising it for a while, so maybe the owner will get serious about one of the biggest attractors of coffee shop culture. I was actually advised by the server to just use the WiFi from the business across the street (I did try to no avail). I really really want to LOVE this place, especially because I live within walking distance, but I just like it. The service is definitely just OK, the sandwich I order comes out different each time it feels like, it's a $2 upcharge for almond milk (that you're not told about), etc. It seems like they are still trying to figure out their menu and service. Very cute little coffee shop settled in one of the old houses in Virgina Highlands. Their coffee was very good, but a little overpriced, which I guess you can expect at Mom and Pops store. The coffee was served hot, but not scorching hot so that we could take a sip as soon as we got it. The only complaint I have is that the coffee was served in paper cups, rather than a mug. Being new the place is bright and shiny but it also feels like it's that way to cater to the upper crust of the Highland crowd. Everything looks so clean and almost sterile. The staff though are much more colorful and almost seem out of place. Like they belong in a cafe with a more interesting atmosphere. I'll be coming back though as I loved all the windows and sunlight; they let me feel like I'm not missing the day when I'm trapped inside working. The coffee is good. Not burnt. I normally don't buy savory food at cafes as it's usually been sitting in a refrigerator since who knows when. Not so here! They made my sandwich fresh. I had the vegetarian Reuben. I'm a sucker for these things because they are hard to find. At $8-10 the food is overpriced and the fresh oj is just insanely overpriced at $8 for 16 ounces. In terms of flavor, it had a lot of potential but was drenched in what seemed to be honey-mustard sauce that was overly sweet and dripping as well as soaking through the bred. I thought to take a picture but my fingers were too sticky. The kraut wasn't very sour either and the sandwich would have benefited from two more pieces of tempeh to make it more substantial. The number and location of dessert cases is discombobulating and makes deciding what to get all that more difficult. The café is own by the folks at Highland Bakery so while I didn't have any desserts I'm betting they're mighty good. In terms of atmosphere, it was fairly quiet and just busy enough to keep it entertaining without being too distracting. It also wasn't too loud either. It would be nice to have another group table and improved outside seating, perhaps with a larger awning to block the glare on computer screens. =) read more

I had such a disappointing first visit today. The coffee was served literally at the boiling point and was undrinkable for 20 minutes until it cooled down. They use excellent Batdorf coffee, but when you brew it that hot it just tastes thin and burnt. The hot cocoa for my 8 year old was also boiling hot and didn't have any good flavor when it eventually cooled either. read more

They get one star for having electricity. Terrible service, rude, uninterested staff that cares very little about their customers. Met some other friends there this morning and we all were treated very poorly, got mediocre, overpriced breakfast sandwiches that were not correct but the staff didn't even glance at them before saying it was correct! The couple in front of us were going crazy as they waited 30 minutes for an order of smoothies and coffee. This was my 4th time visiting and I gave them a lot of slack as it is a new addition to the neighborhood, but this level of mediocrity and laughable customer service is just not acceptable. VERY DISABILITY-UNFRIENDLY I had heard good things and hoped to stop in for coffee, only to discover that they had converted the only handicapped parking space into patio seating! Not only is this a highly illegal code violation, but speaks incredibly poorly of the business itself. I should have known when I called shortly after they opened to ask if the space was wheelchair accessible and was told "more or less" (I really prefer to know if it is on the "more" or the "less" side). When I pushed further and asked if there were steps to get inside and if there was a ramp (many businesses have portable ramps which are an inexpensive, easy way to make spaces accessible, so there is really no excuse), and they said no, but it shouldn't be hard to get a wheelchair inside (By levitating, perhaps? At this point I stopped inquiring and just went to another neighbourhoood coffee shop.). So much for coffee shops being welcoming places. I - and anyone else with a disability - am obviously not welcome here. Nothing like turning into a parking lot to see the one accessible spot still clearly marked on both with a sign and on the ground - with tables and chairs parked on top. Visited for the first time yesterday, mainly because I'd heard about the pecan milk and really wanted to try it. Ordered a medium iced chai with pecan milk. I enjoyed it. This particular blend had a lot more cinnamon than I'm used to tasting in other chai blends, so I couldn't really taste the pecan milk. I'll have to try it in something else next time. Also ordered a mini chocolate chip muffin for my niece, and a mini sweet potato biscuit for myself. She of course loved the muffin, and the biscuit wasn't too sweet. The flavor came through really well and complimented my tea. My sis-in-law enjoyed her coffee, and we liked that they had ice cold water with cups readily available for guests. The cashier who took our order was pleasant and helpful. The guy on duty didn't say hello, goodbye, thank you or anything - just kind of stared the entire time even after we acknowledged him. He could've just been having a not-so-good day, which isn't really an excuse. But you never know what people may be going through in any given moment so show some grace and don't let it taint your experience. If anything just smile, be kind and maybe help make their day a little better. You never know the impact it could have. Anyway, we took our orders to go but I liked the atmosphere overall. It's close to home so I'll be back for a relaxing Sunday afternoon chat with my husband or a friend, or to get some work done. read more

There are Whole 30 approved scones, gluten free baked goods and breads, house made nut milks, coffee with MCT oil, and so many other options. I got eggs and bacon and a matcha late with coconut milk. I love this place - I've visited twice in 3 days. Outlets are plentiful, lots of natural light, fantastic treats and sandwiches. The smoothies are to die for - many are have their house-made nut-milk. Everyone is friendly and the music is typically good stuff. I loooove P&G. The coffee is awesome and it's amazing to actually have healthy options at a coffee shop. It's SO rare to find that and the Highlands desperately needed a coffee shop of this kind. My husband and I go all the time; it has a great vibe. I would give it a 5 (because coffee + food + service = perfect), but! The wifi is pretty bad. If you're planning to go work there, it's worth bringing your own wifi option, or doing non-internet tasks. If they ever upgrade the wifi, it would be my daily work spot. read more

This place is fantastic. They have excellent caffeinated drink options. Their iced coffee is great and only a couple dollars. Their specialty smoothies are expensive but you'll understand why once you take the first sip. Everyone of the smoothies I've tried has been super delicious. They also have a ton of paleo desserts which is awesome for health conscience people like myself. I recommend the dino bites. The entire staff is always super friendly. Terrible service, blah tasting food. Went in late Sunday morning around 11 AM. There was more stuff on the counter then customers waiting in line yet it still took 20 minutes for me to get a bagel with egg and bacon. There were two registers open yet just a cluster of people standing in front of the jockeying for position order and or a glimpse at the one or two menus sitting on the counter. There didn't appear to be enough menus around for people to peruse in advance and make up their mind by the time they got up to order. When I got to the counter I gave my order and the cashier was interrupted by a coworker asking a question about something. She then forgot my order and asked me a second time. Now paying attention -- she asked what kind of bagel I wanted, I asked if they had sesame. She said no, they had cheese, everything bagel or plain. I chose plane and about 10 minutes later someone came from behind the counter and asked me what kind of bagel I wanted because they don't have plain. So I asked the second person, what kind you have? She said they had cheese, everything and poppyseed. I don't like cheese or everything so I chose poppyseed but at this point I was so tired of waiting I almost wish I had walked out but now I know they're making my sandwich so food will be close. About five minutes later someone walks out with a box containing my egg and bacon on an everything bagel. See note above about I don't like everything bagel. Alas I am out of time to go somewhere else so I take the bagel and eat it. It was so bland and uninteresting. The bagel was barely warm and soggy with steam from the egg. Even the bacon was blah and I love bacon! Service was terrible which irks me because I tipped in advance at the cash register. I hope they get the kinks worked out but with poor service and uninteresting food I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. read more
