Finally made it to Press to try the touted up coffee. Coffee is roasted under the Wood Burl Coffee brand (small batch, artisan type). I usually like dark roast, but the only drip coffee they had we went was Cutervo, their house light blend. Too acidic for my palate. They also only offer raw organic sugar -- no stevia or other sweeteners. I understand the whole organic mantra, but at some point you have to weigh the option of appealing to the masses. I was surprised at how small the inside was, with very limited seating capacity. One 4-person table in the front, two 2-person picnic tables in the back corner, and a bar top against a wall with 4-5 chairs. People must get a lot of drinks take-out given the limited seating. They offer donut's from Baker Benji's. I tried a banana cake donut and it was delicious. They also have pastries from sixteen bricks based out of Cincinnati. Baristas were slightly off-putting. Overall, I was quite unimPRESSed with Press and won't go out of my way to return. read more

Excellent coffee, well executed roast and drink, served by knowledgeable and skilled baristas. The menu offers a full line of classic coffeehouse offerings and some sophisticated seasonal options. There is also a curious, diverse, and thoughtfully curated selection of wines. I tried a seasonal espresso drink and a pour-over with a Kenyan bean. I am happy that the season drink was not overpowered by syrup. The pour over fit the barista's description, tasted fresh, and was brewed so that it showed off the bean's best. Great spot. read more

This is a quaint spot in Dayton. I like the open concept of the cafe, which makes it feel roomy for the space that they have. The parking was difficult and there's only a few street spots. They make their own chai concentrate, which I appreciate, although it did still taste a little diluted. The danish was delicious. This is the more famous coffee shop that everyone says to visit in Dayton. We were hoping to visit another cafe but that one had already closed. Not a problem since we were headed to the Oregon District anyway. Not busy here at all! Can't sit or anything. Everything is blocked off. COVID vibes. I ordered a vanilla latte. Small! But prices were so cheap that it was unbelievable! I'm so used to paying $6 at least for an oat milk latte. This was around $3? Whoa. Staff was nice. Just 2 of them. Lots of plants in here! Found this spot online while visiting Dayton and I'll say it has nice vibes but coffee has me wanting a bit. The shop itself has a clean aesthetic that is really nice to work in or to just chill. There isn't a ton of seating but it wasn't ever at capacity while I was there on a weekday. The music was laid back and at a good volume for working, not too distracting. When visiting a shop for the first time I usually order the drip but I am also a sucker for a good cortado. I saw that the cortado was basically the same price as drip ($3) so I went with that. It isn't really fair to judge an entire shop off after one drink imo but for me this cortado was a bit lacking. Sadly, the shot was pretty sour. Even when mixed with the milk the acidity of the espresso was overwhelming. I'd probably recommend passing on any espresso drinks after that drink experience. However, it seems that their drip is synonymous with pour over, of which they offer three different bean options. This is pretty unique and I regret not trying it, if I were to come back I'd definitely want to try a pour over. It's brewed automatically using a Kalita wave for those interested. So all in all, I like the design of the shop and the love shown to the drip coffee options but I didn't get a dialed in shot of espresso. Would still say give it a try if you're in the area but set your expectations for the espresso bar. read more

I love the Oregon District and I love Press. It's a small coffee shop but offers a lot of really great options. I ordered a cortado and my friend ordered a latte. They offer many options including pour over coffee. Also,this location serves Wood Burl coffee which I love dearly. Dayton has fallen far behind in previous years in the culinary and coffee scene (aside from ghost light coffee)but it is back, especially in the Oregon District, in a big way. Press is the best coffee shop in the Dayton area. They consistently have a strong selection of pour overs and high quality teas as well. Prices are reasonable too. I like that they offer pour overs in two different sizes (10 oz and 16 oz). The available seating is a bit limited, and the bar seats aren't super comfortable to sit in for longer periods of time. I still hang out here working for a few hours on occasion. The interior is a pretty sparse and minimal aesthetic that I enjoy personally. Some people have stated they find it a bit pretentious, but that's not the impression I get at all -- they make a good product and are knowledgeable about it. If they were located in Portland or Denver, they'd blend right in. It's great to have a small piece of that in Dayton. Overall, I'm a huge fan of Press and highly recommend it. read more

When I first started looking for local coffee shops around DAY there were pretty much only two, Ghostlight and Press. Initially, I was in love with Ghostlight and preferred it to Press. Overtime, however, Press has become my favourite with super-friendly baristas and great coffee production. Each order is hand-crafted and when purchasing an espresso drink the barista always puts a lovely design in my foam. While not a huge indicator of great coffee, I love this added touch. Even when busy, I don't feel like I'm waiting 5 years for my coffee. Espresso drinks, pour-over coffee. Press offers Wood-Burl Coffee is the coffee. Honestly, I haven't had a bad experience or coffee ever from Press. Don't expect those sugary coffee drinks at Press - it truly is about the coffee here. Press offers a few sweet selections daily ranging from donuts to cookies. The interior of the shop is bright and minimally decorated giving it a very airy feel. You're likely to see people reading the newspaper or having quiet conversation over some beautifully prepared coffee. Mosey on down to Press, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

Press is probably my favorite coffee shop in Dayton. It's pretty trendy and similar to other coffee shops in other cities, but these guys are local and their coffee is great. I've had several other coffee drinks and all of them are very good. I like to come here with friends because of their open loft style seating area and it is probably the only nice, bright coffee shop in the area. They tend to close a little earlier than other coffee shops, so keep that in mind. Also parking outside is pretty difficult, but that's not different than anywhere else in the Oregon district. I definitely recommend this place for anybody who wants a nice weekend coffee with friends or is just getting coffee to go before the workday! read more

Was visiting town for a conference and staying in South Park neighborhood. Really loved the coffee. Props for no single use or disposable items at the sugar and cream table! I went to both locations. Both are neat, I love the newer location's minimalist design and layout. Coffee was excellent. I don't use half and half when the coffee is really good. That's this place hands down. It's not often that I drink coffee. By "not often" it means that I drink coffee maybe once a year. I used to drink it frequently. I used to be a barista long ago. I know a fair bit about coffee beans, roasting, espresso, and milk frothing... but not nearly as much about the more intricate pour-over, siphon, and various other methods of making coffee that have become more popular in the years since I stopped drinking the stuff. A friend of mine was visiting from out of town, and he's a serious coffee drinker. I've been told by every jittery coffee head I know that Press is where you score "The Good Stuff", so I suggested we go here after lunch. I decided to try a pour-over cup of some Ethiopian. The stuff blew my mind. Acidity out the wazoo, light and fresh with toasty caramel undertones. This was fantastic stuff. It also didn't make me feel like i was going to have a panic attack, and my hands weren't shaking. But enough about that specific cup of coffee... The atmosphere is minimal, and properly so. The obvious focus of this shop is the product. They're brewing the coffee that goes in the airpots in large french presses. That's very unusual, but it shows they actually care about what they're serving. Even a single cup of pour over or siphoned coffee takes a bit of time, so you might have to wait for your drink, but it's worth it. The crowd is what you would expect, and the vibe is very urban hipster. There aren't a lot of great places to sit downstairs, but the upstairs looked (I didn't go up) to be far more inviting for people planning on writing, working, or just lounging. The staff was friendly, and when I asked some questions about coffee and specific tastes they responded with concise and informative answers that sounded knowledgeable. Nary an eye roll at my questions despite a line of people piling up behind me. I like that. I will definitely be back. read more

What a great little find in downtown Dayton. We arrived around 4:30 and stayed until close at 8pm. The atmosphere is typically hipster and what you'd expect at a coffee bar in a much bigger city. The venue is filled with local art and otherwise minimalist decor. The prices are incredibly fair. Only $1 for a French Press mug of coffee, which is pre-brewed and stored in an air pot at a self-serve bar. Refills are also $1 and there is a .35 discount if you bring your own mug. The pour overs today were also only $2.50-3.00 and they had three options to choose from. The staff are friendly and seem to know their stuff, not that I would really know if they didn't. I met one of the owners. They are a husband and wife who seem to know their stuff and totally fit the style of the place. I love it when you can tell an owner loves their place and takes pride in it. The seating is limited; a table for 4-6 in the front, a bar with a few seats, one tall round table for 2-3 and three tables in the back that can each seat 2-3, if you can steal seats from other tables. It was adequate for the crowd most of the time we were in there, but there were a few times people had to trade seats and steal random chairs. The loft is their office, NOT additional seating. There is no sign indicating this or preventing you from going up there, so I had the awkward experience of walking up the stairs and then turning around to see all the regulars staring at me with a little smirk or grin. I don't live in Dayton, but I visit it often and I will make this a regular stop. I wish there was something like this closer to where I live! read more
