This was both my first time at a black girl blow-out bar and my first time in Dallas, and this experience did not disappoint at all! I filled out the appointment and booked well ahead of time and was surprised to get a call from booking about a week prior, making sure that the services I chose were the best fit for my hair and scalp. It put my mind at ease to know that I would only be paying for what I needed! Day-of, I had Miyah as my stylist and I could not have picked a better match, we chatted the entire appointment about throwback hip-hop and RnB and being a black woman in today's society. I felt like I was in amazing hands the entire time and she gave me tips for keeping my gorgeous press in the Dallas heat! I got no end of compliments on my hair during my whole trip and literally think I need to make it a habit to come out to Pressed a few times a year now. If there was *ever* a Colorado location I would be a VIP immediately, but until then I'll keep my eye on flights to Texas. read more

I think it was Meisha that did my hair. She was nice, but seemed to lack flat ironing skills. My hair didn't last 24 hours before it frizzed up and reverted. Now I have to spend time and putting more heat on my hair to restraighten pretty much my whole head because it looks a mess. Half my hair shaft is frizzy and looks like it barely was straightened. I went to the plano location in February and the lady there did an excellent job on my hair! I didn't have any of these issues that I described above. They both used the same products, the exact same flat iron and I got a steam treatment both times, yet my hair came out so different. So I can only assume that Meisha from the Dallas location didn't have the same skills as the stylist from the plano location. Either that or she didn't use a high enough temperature. The plano location is far from me, but I would go back there and ask for the same stylist before I go back to the Dallas location. Also, what is this $12 service fee that's being charged? Anything to get a few extra dollars huh? There's plenty of salons charging 70 for a silk press and includes a trim as well. read more

I went to Pressed for a blow out on my birthday and I loved my entire experience. From the booking process to the mimosa when I arrived. I worked with Daphne, who was extremely knowledgable about natural hair. I never felt the heat was too harsh or too high (I've experienced heat damage before at other salons). I've been natural for over 10 years so I can tell when a stylist knows what they are doing in terms of using heat on my hair. I also appreciated the social distancing in the salon and everything was thoroughly sanitized after each client was at a station. I'll definitely be returning! read more

I would NOT recommend this place. I was so excited to check out a hair salon dedicated to black hair. Upon sitting in the chair, I told my stylist I had previously had a bad experience getting my hair done at another salon because the stylist did not listen to my request. Fast forward to my hair trim, she showed me that she was going to trim 1-2 inches max. By the time she was done she had "trimmed" about 5 inches. I walked outside of the salon and my hair immediately turned into a frizzy poof ball. So that was over $100 down the drain. So sad. I really wanted to like this salon. Every experience here has been a reminder of why you can't go with trends! This blow out bar will go as fast as it was put up because with the way your service is headed I'd nowhere good fast! It's giving I'm trying to be a success but I want to take some shortcuts to get rich quicker. First off the 1st time I came there I absolutely hated my service my hair was still poofy they ran out of mimosas, not relaxing very stressful actually. The 2nd time I went in waited at least 30 mins and I arrived on time my service was exceptionally better and in addition I had extensions in THEY WERE DONE NO PROBLEM. Now this my 3rd time and per usual can't call and speak with a live customer service person with any questions or concerns, and again I was having trouble booking (terrible booking system) so eventually I'm texting a rep on the other end who informs me they DO NOT SERVICE EXTENSIONS when they previously had with no problem. I proceed to cancel my appointment and ask for my money back and I'm informed I have 30 DAYS TO USE THE "CREDIT" ON MY ACCOUNT! Now why would I go somewhere that can't service me? This is truly a company that needs to go back to square one and get on one page from management to stylist. Nonetheless each time I've been in there it's hair all over the floor and dirty. What a terrible experience that had potential. And don't reply with some automated "how can I better help" because I talked with a alleged manager FELICIA and she was Adamant about not being of much help at all! (Side note tape-ins we're never mentioned, as well as how someone situates their monetary expenses is not based on experience! Purchasing a membership on the first time even if services were not liked made the service CHEAPER! Don't confuse that with enjoying or liking a service. As well as when your genuinely nice you don't try to embarrass or humiliate someone so it reflects in the tip how you felt about the service! Please speak on facts and not opinions and lastly SCAMMING PPL OUT OF THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY YOU SO WRONG! As a "black owned" business yal so wrong in so many ways... I'll let my lawyer follow up with this "membership" and "credit on file" aka no services done just money sitting there. read more

My daughter need a trim and wanted her hair straightened. She is natural and I wanted to go to a place that frequently did these things. When I heard of Pressed Roots, I wanted to give them a try. I love that their speciality is natural hair and specifically trimming it and straightening it. Their prices are also affordable. I can never understand being charged $100+ to straighten natural hair that will not usually last longer than 7 days. Thoroughly impressed with their service, our stylist Queen was amazing and my daughter loved her. Her appointment was at 1:30, she started at 1:39 and was done at 3:30. Okay....listen... I have had mostly horror story situations when it came to getting my hair done since I was a little girl. I have lighter colored hair, which makes it dry naturally. Not to mention I'm a 4Z girl. I tend to stay away from salons because I have never felt comfortable there. All that changed when I found Daphne @ pressed roots. I was offered a drink on arrival, and told my stylist would be right with me. I got a second to take in the BEAUTIFUL decor and the gorgeous staff. Everyone was having a good time, friendly, and the music was sooooo good. Daphnes personality was so inviting. She's hilarious, charismatic, and can slay some hair honey. She moved through my jungle of hair, quickly. I'm not tender headed (which she asked before getting started) but even If I was...there was no pain during the appointment. Daphne was knowledgeable and talked to me about my hair and the products I use. The appointment was amazing, and I left the salon feeling so good and excited to be on my hair journey at PR. I would give more than 5 stars if I could, I'm not easily impressed- but this was it. Not to mention the affordability factor. I have definitely found my new hair home. read more

Their biggest selling point was that they were punctual and get in you in and out at the agreed upon time. That's no longer the case. They gave away my spot and had me waiting and nobody was available to do my hair, so I had to leave. Their commitment to being punctual and not juggling clients is no longer true. Fabulous experience at Pressed Roots! Scheduled 4 services for my first visit and was in and out in less than 2 hours!! I know...unheard of at salons anywhere! I didn't feel any of my hair care process was rushed and everyone I interacted with were very professional and informative. Beautiful set up, clean stations, and the environment is positive. When I arrived I was promptly greeted with a smile, although covered by her mask, she added an energetic wave to her warm welcome. Nice touch! She quickly got me checked in and offered me a beverage; thereafter told me to make myself comfortable in the check in area. Not sure why that gesture to make myself comfortable set with me but it was refreshing. I didn't event have a chance to get super comfy at this point because the shampoo tech, Queen swooped right in and got started on my me immediately. She greeted herself and led me to the bowl. Talk about smooth transitioning!! Queen was super friendly and gentle; we chatted the entire wash. Final step, meeting Bre, the stylist, another smooth transition. Everyone was warm, friendly, and genuine when they introduced themselves and informed you of next steps. WOW! Bre used this magical brush that allowed super easy detangling, MY GOODNESS!! I have never had such a soothing and relaxing hair salon experience. No tugging and no pulling, just gentle sectioning/ detangling and styling. I was so impressed through and through. When the stylist hands you the hand mirror and informs you of what to expect from your trim..... THE CARE AND ATTENTION shown! Drops mic, that sealed the deal!! Not one complaint!! Ohh and the playlist is fire!! I appreciated their attention and respect for a younger lil lady in the salon when one of Megs infamous hits fell in rotation. The song was gracefully skipped. Finally leaving this review after visiting several times since last year. Overall this is a great place to get your hair done. If you've been getting silk presses for awhile you know that stylists often double/triple book clients and have you waiting for hours, but with Pressed you maybe have to wait 5 minutes before you are getting washed. The receptionist are super sweet and professional, they always offer a beverage and they do their best to accommodate people's schedules. The first few times I got my hair done, I left everytime with silky and flowy hair, the stylists (though always different) were nice, polite and professional. However these last two times I was left a little disappointed. Last month my press was great however the stylist who detangled my was extremely rough and brushed my hair root the tip rather than start at the ends. I honestly thought I was bald by the end of it. She also could have been a bit more friendly. And today when I went I was asked if I was tender headed (which I'm not despite expressing concern over the last time) I said no but it seemed like that was the green light for the stylist to go ham on my head. Not only did I feel like she was pretty rough with the detangle, she often pushed my head around. I'm used to it but I don't think it's the most professional thing to do. She asked me if my hair held product lightly or heavily to which I understood why she asked and appreciated because I didn't want to leave with stiff heavy hair and I answered her.. however the final straw for me was when she asked me if my hair did better with product before the press or after and I didn't really know how to answer. Yes I know my hair somewhat but I'm not a stylist and I felt like that was her job to assess. Needless to say my hair ended up stiffer and heavier than it's ever been at this salon and I'm pretty disappointed. I can always tell my hair is weighed down when it comes out dark as opposed to my naturally medium brown hair. I will continue to support this salon as I really value the time management and pricing but would love if the above were improved. read more

I almost hate to leave a review like this because my first experience here was amazing. I recently went on Sunday to get a silk press and trim. The girl who washed my hair pretty much hosed my ear a few times. When I was sat down for the blow drying and flat ironing portion of the service, my hair was divided into sections but never detangled. My hair was blow dryed with a roller brush with obvious tangles, and I honestly was nearly in tears. It felt as if my hair was being pulled out. After leaving the appointment, within an hour, my hair had frizzed. read more

Disappointed! My 15yr old daughter is natural. This was her first silk press/ blowout. We went to Pressed Roots Sunday 8/15/2021 and the appointment was at 3:30pm. I got the silk press, steam, and trim for $95. The salon is very upscale, the greater was nice and professional and so was the stylist. My daughters hair was cute when we left. Nothing fancy, just feathered bang and bumped curl. By 8pm her curls fell. I wrapped her hair, didn't put anything on it, tied it up with a headscarf, and made her use a shower cap to make sure it didn't get wet. Here we are today 8/16/21 about 10:30am, unwrapped her hair and it was poofy. Not back to natural state, but no longer straight. She had to be at school at 11:45am. I called and they were able to squeeze us in. I had to pay another $35 today for a silk press touch up. The stylist that did her hair today was surpised that my daughter was here yesterday. She had to retrim her hair because it looked horrible. The front desk person asked me today did my daughter get her hair wet and I told her no. I explained that this was her first silk press. I was disappointed that she didn't apologize for the experience, didn't try to say this one is on us, or give a partial refund with no charge today. There is now way that I should spend $95 for style that didn't last 24hrs then have to spend another $35 for a touch up. That's a total of $130. I will say the stylist that did her hair today did tell me that sometimes, when it is the first time your hair has been silk pressed or straightened and you're natural, it might not last. read more
