Even though it was slow, staff weren't as helpful this time as they usually are, told us (politely) to just smell stuff on our own and bring it to the counter if we want to buy it. Every other time, it's a great experience and they come out and help, especially if you don't know your teas, if can be overwhelming. The lemon black tea is good, we made it when we got home! I have been coming here for years and I have loved the loose teas that they have for sale. The variety is first rate and the quality is excellent. There are so many that it makes it difficult to choose. This is how I first experienced this shop is with the teas, however I have since tried their coffee. Could I have guessed that their coffee would be excellent as well? Maybe not, but it really is so great. They certainly strive for quality in this area as well. The advantage they have as a local store is that they pay attention to the needs of the customer. You can even ask them to make you a custom blend of coffee of your choice, wow. You can also order a cup of tea, or coffee right there in the store. If you ask for a recommendation they will give it to you gladly. The store has a very wooden, old fashioned look to it that is very charming. The tea is displayed nicely, so that you can get an idea of what it is like. This was my first time at this coffee/tea shop and I will definitely be here again! They have so many different flavors to choose from for both tea & coffee! I ordered a hot butter pecan latte with almond milk (wasn't even extra!) and it was delicious, perfect for a chilly fall afternoon of walking down the strip. My sister got a hot rose latte and my husband got a vanilla almond tea. Everything was very good. They have so many different teas to choose from, my husband took forever to decide on just one! What a great shop and incredible selection friendly friendly staff. The roster in the back was incredible. So many coffee selections the biscotti looked pretty good as well. They've been on the strip for 60 years. We sat outside and enjoyed our biscotti, almond Joy chocolate smoothie & Boston cream pie infused coffee. The specials look wonderful and the prices can't be beat. We went back before they close to purchase for large coffee's for the next two mornings in our hotel. My second time here and was disappointed with Ice-tea! Last time had a cappuccino and didn't hold up to standard compared to the cafe across the street. The hibiscus tea tasted like 85% water! Still, they do have a good selection of tea and coffee that you can buy and make at home. read more

The corporate world has become a major player in the coffee and tea business. The whole process of getting coffee has been mechanized into a machine that churns out flavored sugar milk. Quick, convenient, and impersonal. Prestogeorge doesn't feel like a corporation at all. Of course the staff are quick, knowledgeable, and make the process of buying coffee easy, but the place feels more like entering an old apothecary shop, pitching delicious smelling potions and elixirs. Jars stuffed with all kinds of teas and dried fruits line the walls, while old style roasting and brewing machines give the place an old world charm that simply doesn't come with any massive chain store I have visited. I was a steady Prestogeorge customer for years, but circumstances moved me away from Pittsburgh. I have since tried tea shops across the United States, and have found no place quite like Prestogeorge. I still order tea online from them because their products are amazing. Try the Lady Grey blend and I challenge you to tell me you've had better somewhere else. Good coffee is about freshness and roast, and they work on a small enough scale to keep it fresh by the time it gets to the cup. They know their business. They have been operating since 1980, and they have only improved their process. I finally got back to Pittsburgh after seven years, and I made a special point to visit their home base in the Strip District. I was astonished that some people on staff remembered me after all that time. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, I didn't want to leave. It is such an amazing place, I can't wait to get back to Pittsburgh to visit again, maybe try something I haven't had yet. Online is great, but going in Prestogeorge...the smells, the tastes, the staff, all the neat stuff in jars...that is a quintessentially Pittsburgh experience to me. read more

I am not a coffee connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination but I do enjoy a good latte. Popped by while exploring the Strip District and figured a boost of caffeine would do me good - wide variety of coffee and tea drinks available at the front counter, order and browse while it's being made. I got the Thin Mint latte while BF got a chai - my drink was on point and he enjoyed his, barista had an attitude and seemed annoyed at everyone. Thankfully, other staff on site were friendly to balance her out. Drink prices are very reasonable here, too. They have a HUGE variety of teas and coffee beans available, and they roast beans on site - head to the back down the hall to see the roaster in action. This quickly became my favorite coffee spot in the strip district, after literally trying all of them haha. My go to order is a large iced latte with almond milk, add cinnamon powder mixed in with the espresso. It's so good! The quality of the espresso is smooth and tasty, not bitter at all, you don't even need sweetener. And the price is reasonable. I appreciate that they don't charge extra for almond milk (or soy, extra charge for oat milk). Everyone who works here is super friendly and helpful. Great local spot. They also have a massive assortment of teas and coffee for purchase, and other goods for purchase along the side wall. They also sell biscotti in fun flavors! read more

This shop needs to educate employees better. Visited the other day and bought a half pound of Hawaiian Blend and half a pound of Harrar ground for a Moka pot. Unfortunately it was ground fine and far too fine for a Moka pot. Both give a cup with sludge in the bottom and fine sediment in the cup. Because of this, the taste is abysmal. Unfortunately I'm only visiting for a few days, otherwise I would either come back for a refund or replacement. read more

When Wifey and I walked in there was an amazing guy working with a customer and they were choosing and then hand mixing tea for her. I wish my first experience here had been a little different. I loved the overall ambiance of the place, they had tons of coffee beans and tea leaves you can purchase. We only ordered drinks this Sunday morning. My partners hazelnut latte was great! Unfortunately, my chocolate raspberry latte tasted like straight raspberry syrup. I thought maybe it just wasn't mixed in well enough so I tried to do that as we walked, but even after drinking about half all I was tasting was sugary syrup and couldn't finish. I gave four stars because as I said the ambiance was great and my partners drink was very tasty. To me, there is no better espresso than Prestogeorge's. I've been buying their Italian Roast Espresso beans for many years, and their product is consistently excellent, whether I have it as a straight espresso or in a latte (it has a strong, dark, and powerful taste that can't be beat). Their in-store latte is also outstanding, due to their superior beans (and a 16 oz. is only $2.50... that's a deal!). Of course, Prestogeorge has much more than just espresso... they have hundreds of different coffees and teas. I've tried many different coffees, and they tend to be quite good. In particular, their flavored coffees are on target when you're in the mood for something a little different. The staff in store are efficient, professional, friendly, and always willing to help. It's a must stop for me when I make it down to the Strip District. The only negative is that they aren't open late on weekends. If you're a fan of high-quality coffee and espresso, you owe it to yourself to try Prestogeorge coffee. read more

There is absolutely no other place like this one for hundreds of miles. In the Strip, next to Mancini's bread, near Wholeys, Prestogeorge brings the TEA AND COFFEE VARIETY, like no other. In fact, they supply many places around Pittsburgh! Without this place I would never have discovered Puerh, my all-time favorite tea. The JP Hearty Blend is their signature blend, and is a good cup of coffee. I have like 50 bags of tea from this place (no exaggeration!) in my cupboard. Swung through here the other day as I needed some beans for the house, and I wasn't getting to my normal favorite spot for a week or so. Very glad I did! Speaking to one of the counterfolk, I found her knowledgeable about coffee, and they offered to show me the roasting area. They had a solid selection of various regional beans from all over. I selected some Celebes and my old favotite, Jamaican Blue Mountain. The latter I am often skeptical about, as there have been problems with the authenticity of this bean through the years. One look and I knew they were real...and the freshness brought a great cup the next morning. Nice shop, wide selection, helpful and smart staff...we can do this again! Well done! read more

1st off, this place is a 20/10, 5 stars. But, here's why I gave it 2 stars. I was down in the strip this past Monday stopped in at Prestogeorge. I absolutely love this place. I come here often and get pounds of coffee and I'll occasionally get a cup to go. This Monday I was there and something was happening outside with one employee who needed some assistance, and this other employee, a big guy, with long hair, just burst out yelling "OH MY F***ing God! Then screamed something about incompetence and stormed off. I was in such shock and disgusted. It was so unprofessional and I hope Prestogeorge does away with that employee. The new manager seemed to calm everything down and was really nice. I love this coffee shop. I want to keep coming back. God bless. read more
