As you walk into West One, a small shopping centre on Oxford Street, London, one of the first things you see is this fairly modern branch of PRET. It is a decent branch of the chain. They had a decent selection of hot food, probably amongst the largest range, I've seen other than in the early morning in London, which proves this store is doing something right, regarding monitoring the number of soups etc they have on sale. The range of other pre-made products was satisfactory. There was only a small amount of seating which is the shame, however around the seating area which was quite spacious there were multiple stands where you could pick up cutterly and napkins, some of which were just left out in the plastic and not placed into the selected containers where they should be, which seemed a little lazy to me. A decent place to grab a drink while in the area, with much more seating than the Starbucks store nearby. Not bad but not overly impressive again as the lack of seating, selection of cold items including the gluten-free sandwiches, and laziness in certain areas do let the store down. 3* read more

I've been coming to this location daily for the past three days, since it's just a couple minutes walk from my hotel. It's a chain restaurant here in London, offering baked goods, coffee, and of course sandwiches in a crinkly, biodegradable plastic bag! My favorite breakfast item is the smoked salmon and egg salad sandwich. It has a few sprouts to add some balance. For some reason, the salty smoked salmon and creamy egg salad goes very well together. Like my other favorite lunch sandwich place, Paul, they use long, crunchy baguette breads which makes it easy to eat. Both the chocolate and almond croissants are also excellent - very flakey and crispy if you like that. It's not very dense but very tasty - a perfect way to end the meal without being overly full. read more

Being in London for the first time, I saw this EVERYWHERE! It is like the equivalent of Starbucks in the states. They have a wonderful variety of foods to choose from. Busy street and busy cafe but speedy service. I came in during the lunch rush and I had just missed a large group of tourists which probably explains the rushed customer service but it was understandable and not a total mood-killer. I've had the smoked salmon and butter sandwich (£2.5) and the ham cheese and tomato croissant (£1.8). The sandwich was simple and light, just the way I like my sandwiches. But, I can say that the croissant was definitely my favorite! Melted cheese harmonizing with the ham and tomato in a perfectly seasoned croissant- I felt like I was eating a mini-pizza. These were located everywhere all over London and similar to a over-priced Starbucks. They boast that they have very 'healthy' and organic types of food but when we arrived, all we saw that we'd like was from the bakery. Pret do all sorts of yummy varieties and takes on classic favourites. I do like the generous salads if I am being healthy, although they seem to have stopped the tuna nicose they have a new morrocan one out with houmous and falafel and other soul bettering foods. The Soups are a cheaper and filling option. OR the miso soup really does heal any illness and give you a bit of a boost. Pret is nice to just sit in and watch people pass by the window. And you can always pick up a pudding when you finish your sandwich, as I end up doing- the love bars or pecan pie is AMAZING. I am officially a Pret addict!! SO GOOD!!!! YUM!! This sandwich chain is essentially on every street corner in London, but don't disregard its quality because of this. All of its sandwiches are handmade in-store and consists of an interesting variety that extends far beyond turkey with mayo. My favorite sandwich is the Chicken-Avocado with yogurt sauce.. mmmmmmm. I must mention that all of the sandwiches are made ahead of time and placed out in boxes minutes before they are bought.. I'm pretty sure you can customize them if that is your desire though. There is an pre-made sandwich epidemic in London and every cafe, bar, and restaurant seems to have hopped on the bandwagon. Is 'Pret' World Domination too much to ask for? They need to open up a SF/Oakland location stat! Pret has everything you can possibly want - sandwiches, baguettes, wraps, sushi, soups, salads, cakes, cookies, crisps, and coffee. My favorites are the egg & bacon baguette and the chicken & avocado sandwich. Not only is this my go to lunch spot in London but I love starting my day at Pret with a latte and almond croissant. All the food is freshly made in the store's adjoining kitchen and placed on shelves immediately for you to grab and go. It's additive and preservative free for the most part and any food left on the shelves at closing time is donated to charity. read more

I think Pret is pretty marvelous. I think if it swallowed and replaced every chain sub shop in America I would feel no loss. And quite a bit of gain. The food theme is admirable on a level with our Chipotle: decent, less-processed ingredients assembled fairly simply and fresh every day. I don't THINK the baguettes are fully leavened non-shortcut bread, but unlike our Subway/Jimmy John's/Quiznos/Penn Station/Firehouse/Blimpie/etc. I can't be quite sure: they are actually crusty outside and moist/chewy inside. There is that real-food satisfaction and satiety. And it's NOT expensive, even in London. I recall paying about 3 pounds for a very satisfying ham & cheddar sandwich It's a knockoff of the mind-blowing independent boulangerie-based sandwich shops you can find in Paris, and a quite serviceable one at that. Here's a thought. Let's get rid of every single Starbucks in the world and replace them with a Pret A Manger. My first day in London in February of 2009, I stumbled upon this little sandwich/coffee shop by accident. I had a large latte and a croissant stuffed with ham and cheese. It was delicious, considering this place reminded me of a Starbucks, only a million times better. For what I paid, the quality was great. I wish I remembered every single last detail from Pret's, but I just remember how much I loved the breakfast that morning. I guess it had really hit the spot for me. Pret definitely make the best sandwiches! My current favourite is their Coronation Chicken... with Avocardo Chicken coming a close second. And, if I feel in need of a treat, their almond croissants are the best! Sadly my waistline can't cope with too many of those though! :-( As a regular Pret customer, I also love their Pret Card system... it's a pre-pay card than can be automatically topped up when it drops to a certain level of credit. So no more scrabbling around for loose change for a cup of coffee or having to go to the cash machine before buying a sandwich! read more

I actually went to the Pret at 556 Oxford Street about 10 times during my recent stay in London, but I wasn't able to find that one on here... Super fresh food, they make it the same day and sell it the same day. Anything that's left, they give to homeless shelters. The soups were fabulous (I had tomato basil, an Indian soup, a bean soup and one other I can't recall). The sandwiches are large and filling. And, there's free-wi-fi (though I couldn't find any plugs for my computer). Pret's are all over London now, can't wait to go back. read more

If you want a fresh sandwich or salad, head to Pret a manger. The prices aren't ridiculously high like most decent sandwich shops you find in London. You will find that the menu changes daily with a variety of soups and hot sandwichs alternating. The sandwiches remain mainly the same with a different one or two changing for the time of year. They have a couple salads, but not a large variety which I wish they would make some more! They have some healthy snacks like apples, banana's, dried fruit, yogurt covered nuts, snack bars, and skinny popcorn. Suitable for vegetarians and carnevours. Pret has started to serve soy latte's and at a better price that you can find at costa or starbucks but just the same quality product and even speedier service. The ambience is pretty sterile, with clean lines and not a lot of frills. Just a few stools and seats around to enjoy a quick bite and head out if you're not just grabbing your food to go. read more

Really 3.5 star, but I'm in a generous, rounding up sort of mood. Predictable. Reliable. Words that, in my youth, I negatively used to describe used cars and unwanted suitors. I wanted new, exciting, explosive experiences every. time. I. ate (or dated). Now that I've aged, my preferences have changed. I'm not trying to roll the damn dice every time I get a sandwich. To that end, Pret a Manager is like a nice Ford Taurus- Pret a Manger is consistently reliable and pretty good. I don't care what people say about Pret, I will always like it and I love to grab a quick lunch from here. I love most of the sandwiches they sell here, which always taste fresh and are replaced on a regular basis. They also have some really great soup options during the winter days, which unlike other similar chains tends to actually taste of their actual ingredient which is reassuring. I have also recently discovered their hot wraps which were a pleasant surprise as well. Also good on the menu are the brownies, carrot cakes, butter croissants, and cheesecakes. My family and I were on our way to the Bond Street tube stop and were in great need of some breakfast before starting out our dayventure. The doors to a stubby little mall opened, and low and behold, Pret A Manager was beaming right at us. The croissants here are fresh, delicate, and oh so tasty for a reasonable price! The mozzarella and tomato croissants were delicious and not too cheesy. But the real winner in my book were the chocolate croissants. They're filled with a surprisingly large amount of chocolate inside of them. With each bite you got a taste of real cocoa with your fluffy croissant. They have something called a babyccino which is basically a cappucino minus the coffee for kids. It's free and in a very small cup. The cappuccino here was delicious and went very well with my croissants in the morning. Pret A Manager was definitely one of my favorite places for breakfast in London. Yes - I spent my whole day walking around London looking at the touristy stuff while eating and drinking juice bottles. I was short on time, did my walking from place to place, and just felt that I was losing out on time. I got lost using the Tube and ended up coming up at Oxford to find myself finally sitting down for a sandwich. I avoided sitting down at all the whole day (except while on the Tube) and only stopped because I no longer had the energy to walk. This place rocks with organically grown vegetables and stuff. Their salads (Greek) was yummy and VERY fresh. Their cookies were sinfully yet good enough to eat without terrible regrets :) Their fruit juice selection was huge which I chose Mango something. The selection is huge and compared to Whole Foods' offering, it is much cheaper (to USA's version). I noticed there is a WHOLE FOODS in London but did not care to visit. They have bar stools and tables inside but the outside had 4 tables. The only down side was that i had to inhale the secondary smoke from neighboring tables. That is just me. read more

When I travelled in London, I went to Pret A Manger. There are a lot of Prets in London conveniently located near stations and on high streets. They sell not only just coffee, most importantly, healthy lunch at reasonable prices, too! I am from Japan and In London, everything is really expensive but I loved the large cup of healthy hot soup with a lot of vegetables and chicken with a bread. Other cafes like Starbucks only sell snack and sandwiches which are far too sweet or too much strong tasted sauces, which kills delicate flavour of the ingredients and it seems this kind of too much tasting paralyse our sense of taste with full of delicately cooked food sold in Japan and other Asian countries. When I comes back to London, I will definitely use Pret A Manger again. read more

This place is everywhere even in DC. This was the perfect place to pick up a nicely wrap sandwich to bring with your trip to the airport. Make sure you get it made fresh, because I grab a pre-wrap and it was hard as a brick. I got a fresh made one and it was really good pesto and chicken. read more

Despite a bad first experience in Pret, I went back recently and had a really nice lunch. I had a Mexican chicken wrap with corn soup and a can of coke. The whole thing came to about £7 though which is a little steep. Despite the sandwich being a bit cold and soggy, it went really well with the soup which was piping hot, really filling and creamy. There isn't waiter service as this is a place to grab a quick lunch, so pay at the counter and bring it to the table yourself. This isn't McDonald's though so you're not expected to clean up after yourself too! It can be manic at lunchtime so try going at about 3pm, some of the good stuff will be sold out but the soup usually stays around till then and at least you'll get a seat. read more

Good to grab a quick lunch from, and what I really like about this place is that, unlike so many places which sell sandwich produce, they do sandwiches with no mayo, which I'm not really a fan of. Pret a manger ('Ready To Eat') is a chain which prides themselves for producing 'natural handmade food with no added preservatives or additives'. They provide customers with a wide range of food which caters to all sorts of taste buds: Sandwiches (such as Scottish smoked salmon with lemon juice to falafel, spinach & tomato), daily soups (lentil and bacon, sag-aloo, Thai chicken curry) , baguettes, hot wraps, sushi (surprisingly good), and salads. They also do a decent selection of cakes (the banana card box cake is pretty good), desserts and a range of baked goods such as croissants and muffins. In addition to food they do 'Just Roasted' coffees, teas, hot chocolates and juices. I wish the prices were a little cheaper, but the quality isn't bad, so all in all I would say they did pretty good 'fast food'. read more

There really isn't anything like this on the west coast. I know there's a Pret in NY, but really that's of no use for me since I don't live there. But the sammys here are fresh, delicious, and affordable (for UK terms). I went to Pret a Manger a few times while i was in London and their sandwiches were all good. Even the seafood one I got (crawfish) was good and not fishy tasting. Ahh I'm salivating for a sandwich from them now. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered a Jalapeno Chicken Wrap from a place that's thousands of miles away from Mexico and who's staff can't even pronounce it correctly (I mean, ja-LOP-a-no?? really?). Unless red bell peppers have suddenly turned into hal-a-PAIN-yos, there were none in my wrap. The coffee was pretty good though. I frequented Pret quite a lot when i lived in London and was working due to my short lunch breaks and the fact we would eat in the office because I could grab what I wanted quickly and it always was very fresh and I had a lot of choices. It never seemed like fast food and there was always something really tasty. I really enjoyed the brie sandwich with tomatoes? I think that is what it had in it, possibly with basil. They also had several soup options which I quite frequently chose as well along with a small salad. I really never had anything from Pret that I didn't like. My only complaint was that so many of the sandwiches had mayo on them which I am not a huge fan of but I got over it. I would try and take some off or just pick ones that didn't have any on it. Pret was definitely one of the most affordable options as I always got food out during my lunch breaks (lazy I know but my schedule was hectic!) and it was easy to pick something healthy and yummy. I asked my hotel manager for a casual place to eat that was not a chain thinking he was going to tell me to go to Mc Donalds. Well...he told me to go to Pret a Manger ...while is a chain...he said there food is very good and they give anything they don't sell at the end of the day to the homeless...sounds cool. You go in and there are open refrigerators that have all different kinds of sandwiches mostly baguette. At lunch, they have hot wraps too. You bring your selection to the counter where you can also purchase soup, coffee, or tea. They have a take away and eat in price. The price to take it away is about 50 pence less per item than eating in. Genius!! I never had to find a table even during the busy lunch hour... I had the Thai Chili Chicken which was delish... It's like chicken salad with Sweet Thai Chili sauce. The baguette that the chicken is housed in is VERY fresh and with a slight crisp outside. It really reminded me of a Banh Mi. The price was under 3 pounds. They also make yummy breakfast baguettes. I had the egg and bacon. And the egg is basically egg salad. Thought that was weird but it tasted pretty good. One morning I did stop in hoping to grab some lunch stuff for an all day bus tour but they don't sell the lunch till later... A few days into my London trip, and I realize this place is like Starbucks is to Seattle. You will not have trouble finding one or several in close proximity. They are all about using local in season ingredients, they donate to the homeless and they are OCD about recycling (will see signs on the wall everywhere).
