Unfortunately, after a one-week stay, one of our dogs came home with kennel cough and the other with Giardia. The vet visits, testing, and treatment ended up costing us about as much as the boarding itself. I understand illnesses can happen anywhere dogs are grouped together, but having both dogs come home with separate contagious illnesses makes me seriously question the cleanliness and sanitation standards here. I needed to get my dog in quickly due to illness, and they were able to schedule me the same day I called. I met Dr. Danielle Donnelly who is an absolute answer to prayer. She is caring, takes time to listen and was loving to my dog. She prescribed the needed medications and contacted me daily to see how Athena was doing. I was free to text her with questions and pictures that she responded to immediately. So, we recently returned for just a follow up exam, to answer several questions I had, to get Athena's nails trimmed and to get heartworm and flea medications renewed. Amanda, her assistant tech, took wonderful care of us and entered all information. She also carefully trimmed Athena's nails and petted her constantly while waiting for the Dr. Once again, Dr. Donnelly took much time with us offering medication options and advice after examining Athena. She truly cares about each pet she treats. Amanda then put all in computer to give me an estimated cost before I made a decision. This was greatly appreciated since I am retired. Everyone in the office that I have met is very friendly, understanding and helpful. I am indeed grateful to Dr. Donnelly and the entire staff for their care for my Athena.

We have been clients for a few years now and I have been on the fence about continuing care at this location, and today sealed the deal. Two weeks ago we had an appointment for an ear infection for our dog. We were told to come back within two weeks for a free check up- which we clarified with the Vet tech and the Vet herself that this would be completely free for the visit and the swab. Today my husband was told it was be a fee of $27. When he addressed that we were told by 2 employees and checked at the front before we left the original appointment that the follow up would be free he was told that within the 2 weeks they had "changed their policy" but would waive the fee for us this time.....they explained that only coming in to the office was free......respectfully....no shit walking into the office is free. I understand $27 isnt a lot of money, but it truly rubs me the wrong way when you can't communicate to your clients properly. So if you're planning on coming into Breckinridge Park Animal Hospital...do yourself a favor and get itemized receipts, written expectations and fees for follow-ups and record conversations since their policy changes happen so frequently that they can not make their clients aware. After reading other reviews it seems like they have transparency issues and are after any dollar amount they can get. All of their responses to these negative have been "we're sorry for your experience and we want to be transparent with all clients"......Interesting there's no follow ups about these issues being resolved.

The staff were kind and helpful. They offered training classes too. They did some amazing work training the rescue dogs to ensure they got adopted. I currently take my dog here for doggie daycare. I appreciate that the center does a temperament test to properly place dogs in a social group that matches their energy level. My dog was adopted from the local pound and definitely needed socialization. K-9 did a great job slowly introducing my dog to the pack. Frequent, short exposure with positive reinforcement has lead to his ability to be at doggie daycare for a full day. I really appreciate the expertise and caring nature of the K-9 staff.

Over that time they've cared for three of our dogs: Lily, our brindle sweetheart; Nova, my brilliant Catahoula rescue; and now Blondie, our playful pit-husky mix. Blondie currently attends daycare two or three days a week and boards there when we travel. Overall we've had many good experiences. The dogs get exercise, socialization, and the staff clearly knows them well. But the real reason we remain loyal clients is Wendy Hudgins. Over the years there have been a couple situations where things didn't go exactly as expected. Those moments are when you find out what a business is really made of. Wendy has repeatedly stepped in with professionalism, calm leadership, and genuine care. She takes ownership, communicates openly, and clearly cares about the animals and the families who trust them to Pet Paradise. There were times she even proactively called to let us know about something happening so we were never left wondering. That kind of accountability and transparency matters. To be very honest: if Wendy wasn't part of the team, we probably would have moved on. She is an incredible asset to Pet Paradise and exactly the kind of person you hope is looking after your dog. Every single time I tried to schedule a groom or boarding, there were issues. What should have been a simple process turned into a drawn-out, frustrating experience with poor communication and no clear answers. To make things worse, after multiple attempts to get something scheduled, they claimed they "didn't like my tone" and refused to allow me to make a reservation at all. I've never experienced anything like that. Instead of trying to resolve the situation or help a customer, they chose to shut the door completely. Customer service is where they completely fall apart. Responses are slow, often rude or dismissive, and there's zero sense of urgency or accountability. It genuinely feels like they don't value their customers. At this point, it's hard to tell if they even care about having customers at all, let alone new ones. Do yourself a favor and avoid 2nd Family Dog at all costs. There are plenty of other businesses out there that will treat you with respect and actually make the process easy.
