However, that wasn't the case when I arrived. The teacher stopped by briefly, spending between 2 to 5 minutes showing the student what to do and left. She seemed quite rude to the student, creating a tense atmosphere. I was the only customer in that large room. I told them I needed to leave in 2 hours for dental surgery, pointing to my swollen face and explaining that I was in pain. The girl working on my hair was inexperienced--it was her first time doing this type of work. She was very nervous and almost shaking--poor girl. Meanwhile, three other students were sitting around, bored and doing nothing. I assume this school isn't free. What a scam! There was no "expert supervision," and as a result, my scalp was burning, and my hair looked awful and burned. It took over an hour to put partial color on my hair, and then I was told to wait 30 minutes before washing it out. After waiting, Ive asked the student to wash my hair. The teacher finally stooped by and noticed the mess on my head and instructing me to wait at least 15 more minutes. Well, I couldn't wait as I had to leave for my surgery, and my scalp was burning from sitting with chemicals for 1 hour and 40 minutes. She refused to let the student wash my hair mentioning that I had signed some paperwork and would leave when she said so. At this point, I went to the washer to wash my hair myself. The teacher was yelling, instructing me to leave immediately if I wouldn't allow them to complete the work and wait, and even shut off the water over my head. "I'll see you in court," I told them as I headed to the first bathroom to rinse the nasty chemicals from my hair with water before my surgery. At this point, three people were yelling and pushing me, accusing me of things I hadn't done. I was crying, shouting that I was in pain, just needed my hair being washed and leave. Unfortunately, no one listened or cared. Worse still, they called the police, accusing me of hitting someone. It was surreal--a nightmare. On my way to my car, they were excitedly taking my car plate numbers while talking to the police. I couldn't wait for the police as I had to leave for my surgery. After the surgery, still in pain , I contacted the police in person, planning to file a formal complaint.

You wont be taught how to do any kind of gel, acrylic, pedicure, manicure, paraffin, regular polish, etc. services. The only hands on things I was taught was silk wraps for a single day and how to make your own charms with silicone molds. And the singular day we "learned waxing" was taking turns doing a couple strips on eachothers arms and thats it. Don't pay close to 5000 dollars to get a half-assed education, when youre teaching yourself pretty much everything you need to do if you want to be a nail tech. Absolutely insane school please please dont waste your time, dont waste your money, dont waste your effort or your ambition and skills.

I had a very disappointing experience at Innovative Hair Academy in Brick, NJ…read more I scheduled a simple root touch-up to cover my grays. My appointment was at 10:00 AM. I understand this is a student salon and services may take longer, but I was never told when booking that a basic root touch-up could take 2-3 hours. I sat in the chair at 10:00 AM, but the student didn't return with the color until 10:41. The student herself was very sweet, but she was applying the color extremely slowly and very sparingly, which is not proper application for covering gray roots. Since I had to take my daughter to a doctor's appointment at noon, it was clear I would still be there for hours. I politely asked a teacher if she could briefly guide or assist the student so the application could be finished more efficiently. Instead, she responded rudely and said, "You should know it takes 2-3 hours here because they are students." I then asked if I could simply rinse my hair and leave since only a small amount of color had been placed near the front of my bangs. I even offered to tip both the student and the girl washing hair for their time. Instead of helping resolve the situation, the teacher ignored me and went over to the student, who ended up crying. Another teacher then approached me in a very aggressive manner and demanded that I still pay for the service, even though the color was only applied 2 centimeters on front of band when I needed entire head the service was never completed. The issue isn't the $22 price -- it's the fact that I was being told to pay for a service that was not performed while staff refused to even rinse the color from my hair. I have worked in the beauty industry myself as an esthetician in high-end spas, and the lack of professionalism and customer service from the instructors was shocking. Students should be supported and guided, not made to cry in front of clients. Before leaving, I hugged the student, tipped her $10, and reassured her she was doing a good job. Thankfully another student at the wash station was kind enough to rinse my hair, and I tipped her $5. The students seemed kind and eager to learn, but the instructors were rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. I would not recommend this school.

It's Hygenic, sanitary and professional standards for someone touching your face. It seems the school does not teach or enforce that as all the aestheticians I noticed had long polished nails. I was very surprised.
