If you have driven much between Midtown and Buckhead, odds are that you've passed this castle-like house before. Parking is across Spring Street in a dedicated lot (underneath an on-ramp to the connector). You then just cross the street and are behind the home itself. We entered via the front door which faces Peachtree Street. Our tour lasted about an hour and focused on the architecture and history of the home. It was constructed early in the 20th century and has a lot of nice details (woodwork, light fixtures, wall murals, etc.). The tour does not include the upstairs (which is now office space for the historic trust that operates the site). It does include a brief visit to the basement, which is just an average semi-finished space. There is also a room with historical photos of the surrounding area - the shopping plaza that was built later and which surrounded the home on three sides at one point (only one 'arm' of derelict shops still exists). I recall when the Rhodes Theater was still in operation (showing older and/or cult films). I've driven by here countless times and it was nice to actually get an in-depth tour of the property. This is definitely worth doing once if you live in the area or have an interest in architecture.

So it was really an easy choice for my partner and I who married on Sunday, April 24th, 2016. We had 95 guests with our ceremony on the steps, cocktail and reception split inside and out so that the dance floor could be in the reception. It was a bit windy for the piping drape and urns so be certain you weight down well. Chrystal was a true joy, her experience with the venue gave her the knowledge to make great suggestions. While we did add florals and décor on the tables and mantels, we kept them in the feel of the home very lush and loose. We wanted people to explore the home the whole evening, not just for ceremony or dinner. We put the bar into the den so it was just off the dance floor (in the reception hall ) and would keep people flowing through the home even after dinner. She offered to work with us every step of the way and was always easy to reach when needed. I got my cake bar in the parlor with my 60" rounds plus sweetheart table and the rest of the guests were either seated in the library or on the porch. Dinner was buffet style, then we all returned for dancing and mingling. Several did mingle on the front and side porches, taking photos of the home, ceremony or photo backdrop. The day of is truly a whirlwind, the staff was on top of everything. I'm very hands on and they wouldn't allow me to do anything. = ) I too, returned from my honeymoon to find my security deposit check had been returned. It was even easy to pick up the cooler we realized had been left there about 2 weeks we later. I can't wait to see the rest of our photos as the peeks I've gotten have been amazing! Initial booking experience: Easy enough- you use the website then someone calls you and explains the packages, sends over a contract, pay the deposit etc. Two weeks later I hadn't gotten an email about paying the rest of the party fee like we discussed. I called and emailed and no on responded- the website had been deleted so I sent them a dm. No response but I ended up figuring out how to pay it in full instead of the installments we agreed on. Slightly annoying but it was done. One week before the party I received and automated email from the booking website stating that I would be refunded the second payment I made- shock sets in. I called the number and left countless messages, emailed, insta dm'd- zero communication. At this point I figured o needed to be planning another party. Three days later I'm still calling and someone finally answers. Very nonchalantly says the party was still going to happen and they were having some issues with booking. Relieved but disturbed about communication and service but mentioned someone should have called me as soon as they found out. Party Day- I arrive at 10:55 party start time is 11am. Knocking on the door (panicked again) a teenager comes To tell me we can't enter until 11. Okay. 11am she rolls out a red carpet and goes in. No communication to us. Guests have arrived. Sticks her head out and says, "Y'all can come in" Party- They began putting very wrinkled robes on the kids. The room as silent other than the kids talking to each other. They went back chose their colors for their nails and toes and split the girls in three sections-makeup, nails, and toes. Only two kids were working. This felt very awkward. The parents were told to stay up front but of course I kept going back to check in. My daughter the birthday girl was crying at one point- the older girl said she was poked in the eye and my daughter had makeup in her eye. I asked if they had wipes or a napkin she told me to go get toilet paper out of the bathroom. (Upsetting but still stayed calm.) still only the two kids working. Most of the music playing was very randomly in Spanish. The owner comes out and brings a number 7 sign and heads back to her office. I say hey are you the owner I spoke with, she says yes and sends me an additional invoice for the two extra kids. Again the website seems to be having issues because it isn't processing my card payment. She told me it needed to be paid before she de my daughters nails. Luckily I had cash on hand. All kids finish several kids upset because nail polish looks like it was done by a kid- because it was. Happy Birthday- Cupcakes came out before food. Weird- but I'm sure the kids liked it. Time for pizza. The kids get one very small slice. That's it. That's the party. Very basic. Very expensive. Very underwhelming.

The ballroom was beautiful and elegant, and we had a great time. The Imperial Ballroom used to be the hotel's dining room in the 1920s (the hotel opened in 1924). It "features ornate blue and ivory hand-plastered ceilings, 10 columns, and a unique recessed wood floor." It looks really nice. I forget our event's guest count, but I think it was upwards of 150, 170. There was live music, both in the pre-function space during cocktail hour and on stage in the ballroom during dinner and dancing. There was also a two-sided bar. We had a seated dinner with the following: * First Course: Caesar Salad with garlic focaccia croutons, shaved Parmesan, and Caesar dressing * Main Course: Filet of Beef over herbed risotto with a peppercorn jus and Chicken Pancetta over sauteed greens with a lemon beurre blanc We also had cake. All of the food and drink were good. To drink, I had a couple of extra-dirty martinis (delicious) and also a bit of wine, with dinner. Service was fine. The bartender who made my martinis did an excellent job. The Biltmore Ballrooms is called "Ballrooms" (plural) because there are two ballrooms: the Imperial Ballroom and the Georgian Ballroom. The Ballrooms are conveniently located to many places in Midtown. We ended up walking one block north to the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel for after-party drinks. The Renaissance was the "official" hotel for our group. For parking, there's a garage on-site (next to Cypress Street Pint & Plate). We Ubered.
