I live relatively close to Pt Richmond but I don't really drive out there very often. But my husband and I decided to make a visit before Christmas (we did the same last year but I never got around to writing a review). Outback is a clothing store which sells very unique clothing designs with original fabrics. I actually shopped at the store back in the 1980s when it was located on Sacramento St near Dwight Way in Berkeley. I bought a coat from them that lstter for years. So this place has been around for decades. (I think at one point they moved to 10th St need Gilman in Berkeley.) I found a beautiful cashmere scarf, for a reasonable price, for my daughter who lives on the East coast. She received it and commented on how soft it was. The saleswoman was super friendly. We had a nice conversation. (A different saleswoman last year was also nice and pleasant.). The clothing can be on the pricey side for my budget. But if you are looking for a piece of clothing that no one else has, this is the place to visit. I really should go back and treat myself! read more

Super random but I needed a trash bag and decided to go in the store and lo and behold they had one. I asked if I could get one even for $1-2 and they said sure no problem. Located off the 4th street shopping area next to Mephisto shoes, I have been shopping here for years. I am a huge fan of Johnny Was but can't really afford the full price, they are beautiful pieces of clothing but I just can't justify plonking down $200+ for a shirt. What I like is that this store does carry Johnny Was at a discount! If you also subscribe for their newsletter you can get additional discounts. In terms of COVID protocols, you must wear a mask to enter. Employees wear masks and you must use hand sanitizer prior to entering the shop. This shop has also Bernie Mev shoes, various European designers, Citron and other great labels. Along with accessories, check out their jewelry section as well. My latest shopping foray was off their clearance rack, they usually have one outside. This time, they had a Citron long sleeved shirt for $24! Love Citron, their pieces are one of a kind. The customer service is what really brings me back. My daughter purchased a sweater for me for Mother's Day from their online shop. When I got it, it was not 100% cashmere as I thought it would be, I believe the content was less than 10%. They let me exchange it for a 100% cashmere sweater AT NO CHARGE. Amazing. This is always a shop I enjoy visiting when in the area. They have such a great selection of funky and classic clothes and their sale racks have reasonably priced pieces from brands such as Johnny Was. I would say overall, this is a high-end store, so expect to spend big bucks if you're not only checking out the sale racks outside. The staff are friendly enough and make sure you know that their clothing looks good on you. read more

This place is a scam. I purchased a knit shirt only to discover at home that it was actually an Old Navy shirt. They simply covered the label with some fabric glue and re-sold it as a boutique item. No wonder all sales are final. read more

I love this store. I pop in once or twice a year and always find several items of clothing and jewelry that become wardrobe treasures. Even more basic styles end of being what I reach for. I apologize in advance for the long review....didn't know how to cut it short and still get the message across :) A couple of days ago, I was at the counter paying for a dress and I made a joke about getting a discount, at which point the sales' lady asked me if I was on their mailing, list. As I wasn't even aware that a mailing list for that store existed, I said no. Well, it turns out that if you are on the mailing list you get 20% off every time you shop there.... Obviously, I volunteered for the mailing list. But... not so simple, you get the discount only for future purchases AFTER you get on the mailing list! I was surprised, as most business actually volunteer the discount to get you on their mailing list in the first place, but ok, whatever..... But then the sales' lady went on explaining that if they didn't operate like that people would just get the discount and never come back. I told her that that didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, that if people liked the store of course they would be back, the ongoing discount to those on the list would only encourage them in fact, while not giving the discount AFTER disclosing the policy might DISCOURAGE them to.... another customer who seemed to agree with my logic suggested not to buy the dress, go home, get on the mailing list and come back :) that seemed to infuriate the sales' lady who told us not "to go there, we're not playing that kind of game." Basically, it all escalated into a ridiculous discussion at which point I just wanted to get my dress and get out of there, which I did. But as I was walking home I was surprised to realize how unsettling that interaction had been. As someone with many years of experience working in upscale boutiques, I asked myself how I would have handled a situation like that....and, no question in my mind, if I knew the mailing list/discount policy was not flexible enough to honor the discount, I would have at least offered the client an apologetic "I'm so sorry, the system won't generate the discount unless your name is already in it," kind of thing, but I would have never been so insulting to the client.......Fact is, no one needs a $300 dress. If we indulge in this kind of purchase is because it feels good to walk into a lovely environment after a long day and find a beautiful item for a special event or simply for a special treat. But if the experience is not going to be a pleasant one....what's the point? I will never set foot again in this store and will never recommend it to others as I so often have done in the past. read more

Writing this review on behalf of my mother: she was at Outback the other day and enjoyed browsing through the items, despite the overly vigilant saleswoman popping up everywhere asking if she needed help. The final straw occurred when the saleswoman suggested that my mom look at the clothing items on the plus size rack, even though she wasn't even looking at clothes. My mom walked out of the store practically in tears! Not a good idea to point out your customers' weight struggles. Just let your customer browse freely. read more

I just happened upon this store and what a FIND!!! Amazing clothing from around the world. Exquisite jewelry selection at incredible prices. But, the thing that I love is that I found many pieces that fit me! A real women with breasts and a body that doesn't meet the current standard of beauty!! You know where a skeleton with skin pulled over the bones and a pair of lips thrown on the face is considered the norm of beauty. Give this place a try-husband's, boyfriends, lovers- the holidays may soon be upon us, you can find something for your special one here for sure. Outback is one of my favorite places to shop. So many interesting and beautiful clothes! The clothes Devi picks for her store are all comfortable and empowering in a feminine way. Everything here is unique. Today I stopped in to take advantage of their sale and Hsiao-Yee was very helpful in finding things for me I hadn't noticed but loved once I tried them on. So I'm giving 2 stars because I've been here twice and have found 2 items one each time on their sale rack , which have been cute finds!!! The customer service the 1st time as I recall was ok because I returned for my second visit today with my Son & my Sister. Today's experience wasn't so pleasant as there were at least 3 store employees and they were very intrusive to say the least. I was actually being basically told (by one older women, shorter in height with a gray bob style haircut) to hurry up in the dressing room? I thought that was rude, then when I was getting ready to exit and choose my item (I tried on 2 skirts same style different size) she then rushes into the dressing room while I'm still standing there & as I say yes I'm finished she says good! I then reply I'm figuring out what size to take, she then proceeds to hang the next customers items in the room before I even exited the room??? I've never been treated like that in a store where I'm purchasing something??? I was also offended with how she spoke to my son while my sister was there watching him as if he was doing something wrong. After I made my purchase there was a comment made by another employee to the one who was checking me out asking about the sunglasses my sister tried on as if we took them or wondering why we didn't purchase them??? Very very rude. I strongly suggest some customer service training for these employees as it was a horrible experience for Myself, My Son & My Sister! read more
