Shrimp and Grits
Robert B.

Pretty Soul Kitchen, a cozy spot off Sahara, specializes in soul food. The dishes shine depending on your pick: the grits, shrimp, cornbread, greens, and mac and cheese were all solid hits. That said, the chicken was undercooked and came with feathers still on the wings. .

Catfish, grits w/ crawfish etouffee

I had a friend in town for the fight so we wanted to get something good to eat- everywhere else wait was so long. We came here and got seated right away. Most of the staff were bland but we just brushed it off. It was kind of like a seated day party vibe, which I enjoy. Hip hop/r&b, soul food, drinks, hookah. On the weekends they have "pass the aux" so you can add songs to the play list. I ended up getting the catfish/grits with crawfish etouffee- it was yum. I really enjoyed it. I didn't really see what others around me ordered so I don't know how anything else looked. I would return for a cool little brunch with loved ones. I will say- the prices were steep. An extra side of Mac or Yams was like $9-12, like what!?

Visiting Vegas and looking for something off the strip. You know local soul food. Found this place and thought we'd give it a try. Drinks were great. No doubt. I got a raspberry mojito, which had a bunch of mint in it. Love all the mint. The drink itself is sweet and gorgeous. Could have had 6 more. I placed my order with Ashley. I think her name was. I asked for the chicken and biscuits with gravy. Chicken was fried with a slight crisp, juicy, perfectly prepared and delicious. The biscuits though were hard. Somewhat soft inside. Unfortunately I didn't eat them. Also had 2 dried eggs over medium. And they were good. That was disappointing. We shared the fried green tomatoes. They were good. Light and crispy. The meal and drinks were good. We went on a Saturday and this place does fill up pretty quick. We had made reservations way in advance before our trip.

FOOD: 10 SERVICE: 10 VIBE CHECK:8 I have not one single complaint about this establishment!! The food was absolutely amazing! Our waitress was a sweet young lady from Alabama (I think that's where she said). The photographer even took a really nice picture! Pretty Soul Kitchen definitely tops my list of favorite restaurants and I'll return every time I'm in town. I don't like the mandatory 20% gratuity though. And the music was a little too LOUD! I'm not sure if we came at the perfect time but the restaurant was empty so our food came out quick and our waitress was attentive. Had I read the reviews before I went, I wouldn't have visited here but I'm glad that my experience was much better than I seems a lot of others encountered.

Quinn gave top tier service. She was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The drinks were fantastic, Quinn's hibiscus& coconut was dope. Best experience!! I will keep bringing visiting family and friends here to enjoy this terrific restaurant. SUCH A GREAT VIBE!!

I wanted to love this place--the vibe and music were fire! But the food missed. The Crimson Honey cocktail was warm and too sweet, the Soul Rolls were all sweet potato, and my wings still had feathers and were pink inside. The mac had a weird Cajun twist that wasn't giving soul food. Greens and cornbread were the only win. Great vibe, disappointing food.

Bigger servings and have cornbread. Should have cornbread with the sides. I felt this was a joke when I opened my food.

I came here for a brunch with my two besties and we love supporting a black family owned business! It was super cute inside and there was a great music. I absolutely loved my good ( catfish and grits). One star off for the well done waffles but the presentation for everything was great! The hookah was fine and $40 with an additional charge for new coals. The service was decent one of my friends had come the day before and her server from the previous night helped us a bit more than our actual server. Overall this was a cute experience and we saw a couple people celebrating birthdays and just having a fun brunch.

I saw this place on IG and wanted to try since I was coming. I made reservations to be safe(which I recommend because I saw people waiting or just left). It is a small restaurant and looks family owned. Ashley was our waiteress and she was great. She gave me and my friend recommendations for food. I ordered the sweet potato waffles with catfish. My friend ordered the chicken and biscuits. All I can was my food was delicious. The sweet potatoes were sweet, the waffles had cinnamon and sugar... no need for syrup. The catfish was perfectly fried. The waffles are small(get 3) just enough. I will be back!

The service was top tier. Checked in to see if we needed anything at least three times and to ask how as everything. The food is seasoned well. You don't need salt, pepper, or hot sauce because the greens and fish already have a kick. The fish was nice and crispy. The red kool aid was good and took me back to being a kid. The owner welcoming and the chef or cook may be the owner. Whoever is cooking definitely got skills. I felt like I was down south. I enjoyed every bite. We went in the afternoon doing the week. A quaint place with great music as well m.

Made a stop at Pretty Soul Kitchen! I was apart of a bridal party celebration! Let me tell you, everyone kept raving about the food here! The place is not ever big but still had enough space to fit us all. I believe we had 10-12 people in our party. I ordered the soul rolls to start and the cat fish soul bowl for my entree. The soul rolls were very tasty to my soul. Filled with Mac and cheese, collard greens, yams and fried chicken! Mmmm. My favorite pleasures. They even tasted. The soul bowl was very tasty. Fish seasoned and fried to perfection, greens spiced to my liking, Mac and cheese creamy. I will say all the food is touching so if you don't like your food to touch this is not the dish for you. The one thing I was disappointed by was the cornbread. It was as hard as a hockey puck. I like to dip my cornbread in the greens so I was sad about that but overall the food was great. There is a bar so the drinks can flow if you wish! I ordered my boyfriend a bowl to go! Will definitely be back!

First time coming here and I am not that pleased! The food was decent but could have better and prepared well. I ordered the lollipop chicken soul bowl and the chicken in my opinion was overly cooked and very hard. The sides of the meal was not that great to me. The greens were warm with decent flavor and Mac n cheese a lil greasy. The service was good tho which made the experience worth it. The music was great which made the ambiance good. The place is cute and has minimal cute decor. When visiting Vegas I would say give it a try ! Not sure if I'll return back tho. -Marshay D.

Catfish bowl with Mac &cheese, greens, cornbread. This plate and a bottled sparking water cake to just over $40.

Went this Labor Day to check out this place. Greeted promptly and seated. I was a solo diner so easy to seat. 3 other tables taken up by groups. Here is my review: Pros: Establishment esthetics is nice Menu looked well put together Catfish was ordered, was seasoned to perfection. Plate presentation was great! Con: 1. Music too loud and too much cursing and/or derogatory music. I like hip hop/rap, but I don't need it blaring and the "D" word being heard while I'm enjoying my meal, furthermore, there were young girls in the restaurant hearing lyrics. 2. I ordered the catfish bowl but the greens were not cooked down, and I might as well ordered a salad. The greens were crunchy in texture. The Mac and cheese was average, but they did in a pinch. 3. No tartar sauce or lemon came o with my plate. The waitress offered hot sauce but stated that they didn't have tartar sauce or malt vinegar on hand. 4. When asked about desserts options, the waitress was at a loss to describe the dessert option. 5. Prices of food were expensive as compared to other like establishments I've visited in the past, here in Vegas. 6. Two waitresses on duty however the waitress that didn't serve me, not very congenial as I observed her while eating. The business was not that crowded or busy during my time there, but she appeared to shy away from making any eye contact with me. May possibly pay another visit in the fall.

The service was impeccable!! We came around 1030am, and it wasn't busy, but it was full. We waited a couple mins for a table for 4, which maybe took 10 mins max. We were offered bottled water while we waited, (Vegas was 108 degrees). The waitresses were very sweet. Very knowledgeable as well. Their recommendations were on point cus the food was truly amazing! If you go, it's not called gritz cafe for no reason! Get the grits! I added crushed sausage and cheese to mine and man oh man!! That took it from a 10 to a 20! So good! I ordered the chicken and waffles and it came with a side of gritz. The chicken was perfectly fried. Crispy on the outside. Juicy and flavorful on the inside. Once the hot sauce was added it was even better! The waffle itself was also amazing. Now i love me a Waffle House and i swear by their waffles, but these got them beat by 100000! I ordered a plain waffle, my brother got the yams waffle. (Yams in the batter.) OMG!! That was beyond delicious! My sister got the peach cobbler waffle which might've slightly been a bit better than the sweet potato, and i got the regular waffle which was still a good 10/10! They serve it with hot syrup. (Careful cuz it comes in a metal container that's also hot). They melted butter into the waffle before it comes to your table. It was everything!! I definitely would've came back if i didn't have other reservations. The ambiance was super cute. They don't sell alcohol, so we ordered lemonades and sweet teas. They had a nice pandora playlist playing in the background and by the time we left, there was a line out the door. They close at 2pm so get there early if you can to beat the rush, but this is a highly recommended 10/10!! If and when i come back to Vegas I'm coming back. Maybe 2x lol. See pics below

The fact that they rep the Niners was also a nice bonus! We came in, grabbed a menu and sat. Kenny promptly came over and wanted to take our order. There's a lot of choices we needed a minute. We ended up doing the combo. I did the fried catfish, mac, and the BEP had good reviews so I did that. Woman did the grilled catfish, greens and yams. The menu said fried food takes 20+ minutes, when I asked Kenny he said it'd be 6-7. I'm assuming that estimate is for busier times. They had a steady stream while we were there around 1. I enjoy the places with history that have the pics on the wall w the Celebs that have come through. I didn't know them all but Kenny and his family are obviously well loved, and after tasting the food I get it! The fish was crispy and flavorful! The mac was cheesy and delicious, and the peas had a nice smooth flavor. I think my favourite part of all was that they have and give togo cups of Crystal! My favourite and all I can tolerate heat wise. The pancake cornbread was also a fun treat I enjoyed for dessert. Woman's food was good but I liked mine better. The fish was cooked w bell peppers, which I don't really eat anymore. It had onions too, reminded me of a fajita. I don't eat yams butt tried her greens, they were ok. She said that to her they tasted canned. Idk but they weren't my favourite. My plate ftw. I'd absolutely go back, I'm sure it's a vibe when there's a game on. It stinks how I found them but I'm SO glad I did!

My only disappointment was the smoke profile. I was hoping for a stronger smoke presence across the meats, and they definitely benefited from the sauces. Thankfully, the sauces were excellent, especially the mustard-based sauce, which added a great tangy kick and complemented the BBQ perfectly. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. The quality was there, the flavors were good, and it's a strong BBQ option in a city where great barbecue can be hard to find.
