My husband wanted some ribs. Of course I went to Mario's. Sadly I didn't think to take a photo and all that's left is a box of bones. Still, the popcorn photo means a lot, and I'll tell you why. Up by the register many local artisans are featured. I met the owner of the popcorn company when we sat side-by-side at a farmer's market in Henderson. He was talking about getting stores to carry his product. I recommended Mario's. And here he is. I love this so much. Plus my husband loves his half and half Chicago style popcorn. They were out of that, but I grabbed churro because that sounds yummy. But back to the deli- I made a bee line to the back of the store. I could smell the delicious flavors before I got halfway back. There is always a line. Embrace the line. That means it's good, and it is. I ducked down the pork rind aisle and found my place in line. I chatted with the other people in line while we waited. The fella behind me was getting catfish steaks, and they put out a beautiful new pan just as he stepped up. I was nervous. I didn't see any ribs. Mario's ribs are special. They are tender, juicy, fragrant, tangy and they just fall off the bone. I asked if they had any. They had about a pound left. I got that and a chicken quarter. They put them in a styrofoam box and before I knew it I was on my way. If I didn't just go to lunch with Gwyneth, I would have gotten the swai. Just a heads up- if you're not getting catfish steaks, you're getting swai. I love their swai, and mac and cheese, and greens, and cabbage, and yams, and banana pudding, and peach cobbler, but today I was going simple. Deli staff were super friendly and efficient. We stopped in today because we hadn't been since the remodel. The food was just OK... I definitely think it used to be better. From what was in the case... The sweet potato casserole was a no it absolutely like it had been there all day uncovered, and it was just dried out and really brown and not appealing looking. The macaroni and cheese the same. It looked like I had literally been there for hours and it just wasn't very appealing looking. The sweet potatoes... I did sample one when I was in there, but it was actually undercooked. The flavor probably isn't bad if they had enough time to cook. The greens were OK however there was no meat or anything. It was definitely just greens and they do include the stems. we took a family meal and for the sides we did the dirty rice and the greens. We did wait for fresh fish to come up, but overall it wasn't as good as it used to be. The service was as you would expect. Not rude, but definitely not super friendly. With the Family mail you got a tray of fish the cornbread as they call it... Two sides and a 2 L that you pick up on your way out. If you shop the grocery store, there are definitely sauces and things that you may not be able to locate elsewhere! So, that portion of the store is very useful. But the food selection definitely is not what it used to be. The ambience was as you would expect... There was an older gentleman working the meat counter, and he was kind. There were about three brothers in the back at the deli counter and the service was decent overall. In the front though they were all very playful and laughing with each other so you can tell that they definitely have their regulars and they have already built that rapport. For me on the deli... I wouldn't return. But for the story itself and maybe even a grab some produce absolutely. Seems like they're trying to pass swai off as catfish. The fried fish here definitely isn't nearly as good as it used to be. It's never hot or fresh anymore. I've tried the catfish steaks, and they were an epic fail for me. I think the whole catfish would probably be much better. This place just hasn't been the same in years. Back in the day, they actually sold catfish fillets. That's when the fried fish was always fresh, hot, and delicious. I used to drive all the way across town from the Green Valley Ranch area in Henderson just to buy their fish. That's how good it was. I haven't been to Mario's in about 12 years and decided to give it a try at their new location. I ordered the catfish which came out fresh but was overcooked and some pieces were really hard. I got there around 4pm and they were pretty much out of all the sides . Overall, the food was very MID but if you need a fix for some "soul food" it might suffice. read more

For the price of $13.99 (an amazing deal) you can get 4 pieces of crispy fried catfish, two sides (great variety to choose from), and a drink! The Mac n cheese was flavorful and perfectly creamy, the catfish was crispy and warm, and potato wedges were seasoned well. The drive thru option is very convenient, especially when grabbing lunch on the go. Service has always been good when I've gone. I went through the drive-through I received excellent customer service. That was the ambience. It was very quick.. The pig feet plate is 1499 includes 2 sides and a drink with bread. One of the cheapest that you're going to find the pork chop was $3.31 priced is in your favor. The first couple of bites was salty, but then it balanced out so it might've been a pocket of salt, but the rest was very delicious and crispy. Everything was cooked perfectly. This review will be a brutally honest, historically accurate, play by play walk-through of my experience at Mario's market. When we pulled up and got out the car to enter the establishment, there was about two homeless people loitering out front, which isn't a complaint just a fact/ simple observation. I was actually planning on spotting them some cash on my way out once I complete my transaction inside. The purpose of my visit was specifically to try their catfish and a few sides. The hot food that they serve is located literally at the back of the store so you have to walk through the grocery store in it's entirety. Due to my field of work it is a occupational habit for me to pay attention to details so my default setting is to be vigilant. And what I noticed was literally every single employee on shift during my visit was African-American. I serendipitously/coincidentally was wearing my Martin Luther King Jr. hoodie with the picture of MLK himself on the front and the I have a dream speech printed on the back. I was in a great mood and had positive vibes all day so I immediately thought to myself and even told the fam "look at our good Black people hard at work, making this money" with 100% pride in my voice while saying it. Once we made it to the back to place our order we were approached by a seemingly unapproachable woman who had one of the worst RBR's (Resting B**** face) that I've ever had the displeasure of seeing, take our order. Her demeanor and attitude was disgustingly unpleasant and unprofessional. The employee to the left of her was a 20 or 30 something year old dude bumping that new kendrick Lamar, which is a certified banger!, but that's a whole nother story. Filling the music... I understand. My issue was with the fact that the dude was dancing and throwing up gang signs while on the clock. How do I know?, you might ask. Well, after being born & raised in L.A. you know what gang signs look like... facts! With this one I'm not even gonna state the obvious. Whoever is reading this review, you be the judge? Is that super professional or super unprofessional. To the right of the unpleasant woman who took our order was a different male employee arguing back-and-forth with a female customer. Again, you be the judge. Is that highly professional or highly unprofessional? Once the food was packaged, we were instructed to head upfront to pay for it at one of the registers. The cashier rung my order up and instead of handing me my change she had the gall to ask me, can she keep my change? Not donate my change, but can she herself keep my change. I originally thought she was joking, but she was deadly serious. She caught me off guard so I really didn't initially know how to respond. I was going to say no, but then quickly thought if she needs the money that bad to the point where she's gotta panhandle while on the clock, then she can have it. So I said "OK, keep it I guess". I was so thrown off and perplexed by her unusual request that I completely forgot to do the good deed that I originally planned to do which was help the homeless person standing in front of the store. Instead, I told the fam "damn, I don't think we're ever coming back here" then got in the car and left. The food actually was pretty good and deserves a 4 star. The customer service however, was completely and utterly garbage and truly deserves a 1-2 star, but I generously gave them a 3 star. It should be painfully obvious at this point, but I stand by my previous statement and feel inclined to reiterate that I will definitely not be returning to this establishment. read more

The Mac & cheese tasted like boxed Kraft deluxe with some cheese baked on top & yams tasted like they were from the can. Now the fish was top tier. This was my first time to this market. I saw it on IG but after attempting to visit a couple other restaurants I remembered this place and I'm so glad I did. We decided to go there so we could grab food and get back on to theMy family and I ordered catfish, chicken, pork chops, peach cobbler and a variety of sides. This place is reminiscent of the markets I've visited when I visit my family in Louisiana. They even sell all of the boudin, sausage and other Louisiana delicacies that I stock up when I go there to visit. The staff at the service counter and cashier were such kind and helpful people. It was refreshing. And the ambiance just made me feel at home. We intend to stop back through there on our next trip back through Vegas. We got fish cooked at the old location, but did more of a tour here. I will say that some things are kind of high, we're label readers now and love pork cracklins, found some that we were ok with, had two bags in hand and a $5 (they weren't marked) but they were $3.89/bag! I have been wanting to check out Mario's supermarket upgraded market. When you walk in they have a small liquor store. Several cashiers lane. The cooked food is at the back. It's like a neighborhood market quick shop came here to get some fried catfish and fish steaks. I got the combo for $13 plus tax. The catfish used to be a big wide size but now it's so skinny. You got 3 items plus 2 sides which I picked. Yams were alright and mac and cheese which was a little salty and a can of soda. I'm so happy that they sell tahitian treat soda!!! Yes , they have it! I am also surprised to see a full fridge full of blue bell ice cream too! The new store is much better than the old one. It is clean and organized. You know a place is good when there's a long line and they have that line stanchioned off. The line went by quickly. We ordered 2 pounds of fried fish for four people. I visited this Market since I was told they sold whiting fish. This was a huge deal for me. As a native New Yorker living in Vegas for the last ten years I hadn't encountered anyone who had ever heard of this fish until now. I visited Mario's and was surprised to find that it was a supermarket with a nice fish and meat market in the back of the store. In addition there was a hot food section where workers sold cooked swai, catfish, chicken tenders, pork chops and an array of sides. I had to purchase my whiting from the fish market and the chefs cooked it up for me. They did the same for someone who wanted red snapper. personally as a blk man and I'm trying to be very courteous and professional we have this blk owned market which is lovely I'm trying to put my money towards the blk community but the service I just witnessed and experienced was horrible. cooks all over the place cracking jokes and getting at women while there is a full line, serving one customer with 4-5 people looking right at the customer, when I got to the store the line was empty and food was just sitting open so the fish wasn't fresh. I asked for the new batch and they were pissed. I come to Mario's a lot and I stay all the way on blue diamond and ft Apache so that says enough without going into detail. But I love Mario's cause I never have any problems but my last few visits were similar.
