(Rumor has it).‍ I asked about the brand of their beans and found out they are locally roasted at a location about a block away!!! I've been hunting for a good, fresh, locally roasted coffee in Montgomery for years! They roast their beans on Tuesday's! And get their beans from various places around the world, the guy said. I didn't have time to ask further about shade grown or their farming practices. But from the taste this is impeccable! An overpriced average cup of joe that tries like the little engine that could. For some reason I kept coming back to this shop, trying different brews, but hoping for something that stands out. Definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Overpriced and underdelivers. Every time. {Military discount ~ 20%} Every time I visit Montgomery, I work in a visit to Prevail Union. This place is a 20 out of 10 from the moment you walk in until you depart. Upon walking in, you'll be greeted by enchanting aromas, soft soothing music, and urban industrial architecture. This is not your typical coffee house. The menu has interesting and artisanal concoctions that won't disappoint. Go wild! Pick the HVR latte for something new to titillate the senses. The baristas pride themselves not only on flavor but also on presentation. The pastries are delicate and clearly made with love by some secret chef somewhere who perfected phyllo dough (just kidding, but they're really delicious). The atmosphere is so inviting, you'll want to sit and soak it in for a while. And you can! The outdoor seating area in the back is available if you have a furry companion or want to relax on the swing bed. I can't say enough good things about this place. I almost forgot! Appreciate immensely them being open on a Sunday, Mother's Day, and my Anniversary. Anyway, the coffee was good, maybe better than good. Hard to quantify on that point. It's a darker roast, that's for sure. Moving on, I really grade a place on their 'side' game. I ordered 3 pastries and 3 burritos. The sweet potato and chorizo burrito was a tad tasty, but like all of burritos heavy on rice and a cheesy substance. They were 'grilled' which helped somewhat. They're on the small side, but only $5.50; they were posted at $5.00 btw. The sweet potato was hard to detect, but I saw some in there. The veggie was just mealy and blech. Not a lot of interesting veggies even in there. It was the same mush of rice and some cheese product. No detectable vegetables. The sausage was okay, but not a lot of egg. The sausage was just okay. Of course, it's Rona Time, so maybe more staff would help. Regardless, I would not order the burritos again. The pastries.... the cinnamon roll had great sour cream icing. BUT, the rest was mass-produced with that weird cinnamon that tastes super chemical. It's the stuff in packaged pre-cooked cinnamon rolls. Also, the dough was extremely generic, same as any you'd get anywhere in a grocery store. Not bakery worthy. I'm sorry to say these things, but just having something on the counter is all too common these days. The barista was helpful, friendly, patient and approachable. read more

I've tried Prevail enough times to know it's always underwhelming. I've given up on the coffee as they don't carry white chocolate anything but will go for a pastry occasionally. This morning I went in search of food and there was one lonely sad dry looking cookie on one of many empty display platters. Not a pastry in sight after 9 a.m. on a Monday morning and that one cookie was not a good look. Starbs def doesn't offer this cute ambiance, but they slay on consistency compared to this place. I love the building and the story of its restoration. The inside decor of Prevail is very much in line with the upcycled/preservation of heritage theme. I love that they have locally-roasted beans and a staff that really loves coffee. I also love any place that includes local pastries, and does house-made syrups. Only complaint is that none of those syrups were sugar-free. In-house syrup makers of the world, take note: sugar-free people love syrups too! Prices are in-line with other boutique coffee shops. Three times I've walked into this coffee shop with high hopes and three times I've left with a "meh" attitude. Overall the atmosphere is charming and them being connected to a barber seems convenient. Their staff is extremely professional and are great at explaining their menu. However, it's the coffee itself that I'm not entirely fond of. It Seems to be a bit bitter for my taste but I hear people rave about it, so I'm just going to assume it's me and let others decide for themselves. This place is awesome! The coffee is delicious, wish I had gotten the chance to order more but we were only in town for a short stay. I recognized the pastries as soon as we walked in and was like, 'oh these are from Vintage Cafe!' And I was right. (I do wish they carried their gluten free stuff as well though.) I'd give it 3.5. I tried out oat milk for the first time. I do think having oat milk gives you a little extra class. I liked my chai tea. This is more of a coffee place. The pastries weren't that great. You can only get them warned by putting them in the microwave yourself and microwaves ruin pasties.. I was just passing through so I was glad to find the place. The mission of this coffee shop, rocks. The chai coffee was to die for, really unique and that's what I like about it. Especially with the cinnamon on top. My daughter got the Blondie, also very good. We absolutely loved the local products sold there. They have a personal connection with each one of their artists who sells items in their shop that was really cool. Christina was extremely friendly and welcoming.it's in an awesome location just outside of a very historic space. It's across the street from the building where the civil war started.
