I brought my 17 year old daughter in to get her first tattoo, and Daniel had done the tat for her, it came out pretty good. However the entire time he was VERY rude and extremely impatient with us, I've gotten a few tattoos from the old location a couple Yeats ago and I am NEVER going back, based on how unprofessional Daniel was. I was in need of a portrait artist to do my David Bowie tattoo and after visiting a few shops and meeting with a few artists, I found Preying Mantis. Dave Allen is one of the most talented artists and friendliest dudes I've ever met. I love my tattoo and I get complimented for it all the time. The only complaint I've ever gotten was "Ma'am, your tattoo is too realistic. It looks like it's looking into my soul and I'm afraid of what it might find." (That's a good thing) I did have to go on a waiting list but it was worth the wait due to of the significance of the piece. The staff is very professional and have a lot of knowledge about craft. I have always been hesitant about getting a tattoo and never truly pursued it because of this. It's art on your body! I didn't want to just go to any old place and have something crazy on my body that didn't look good for the rest of my life. I was speaking to someone about what I wanted to get one day and she happened to have exactly what I was looking at getting-mandalas. And to top it off, her pieces were good. I mean, really good art! I asked her where she got it and it was preying mantis tattoo, by Brandon. She gave me his card and I was on my way. Brandon is an amazing artist. He drew up a mandala for me after a small deposit and I can say I'm beyond ecstatic I came to him. The mandala I have now on my center back is absolutely gorgeous!! This was my first tattoo, and I was thinking it was going to hurt, and I was completely comfortable the whole time. He was gentle (not heavy handed) and was extremely knowledgable about what he was doing. You can tell he is passionate about his work! The shading looks absolutely stunning, the outline flawless, and the customer debating what to get for round two!! Even my husband continues to tell me how great my piece looks, and that makes me happy I came here and got my work done. Their prices are even great. It's always tough trying to find a quality tattooist, so one looks to their friends, or the internet, to find the best tattoo shop; I'm no exception. When I moved back to Colorado, I asked my friends and family to see which shop they recommended. On three different occasions Preying Mantis was brought up. Now I want to preface this by writing, I don't just take anyone's word for it when it comes to tattoos. I look at the work that has been done and make my assessment from there. When I saw the great work that had been done on my cousin's body, I was highly impressed. When I called to schedule my appointment, I was greeted with professionalism and friendliness. Further, when I entered the shop, I received the same courtesy. I like to feel like I'm welcomed when I'm 'shopping' around and the staff at Preying Mantis didn't disappoint. My appointment was with Galen S. and I spoke with him about the tattoo that I wanted and the location, etc. Since then, we have spent more than 40 hours on my sleeve and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I've always heard great things about this place. Ive seen pictures and have had friends get tattoos done here. I called to set up an appointment and I am under 18 and asked if my mom had to be there or if she could just sign the form and bring it back, he said both parents have to sign it or he can't do it and I then informed him that my dad isn't in my life and he said "then you cant get a tattoo" what the hell? As I can't legally say who tattooed me because of a legal action i am pursuing. (recommended by my lawyer) I am so irate that i would like to warn other people of what goes on in this establishment. Me and my physician are %100 sure that i was "INFECTED" with Hepatitis C via PREYING MANTIS TATTOO. The reason for being able to pinpoint them causing this is i had a blood test done less than a week before getting my tattoo done, that was perfect and no blood born pathogens or disease where in my blood. Then another test done 16 days after being tattooed by them, i felt dizzy and light headed so I saw my physician resulting in him wanting to blood test me again (which isn't a good feeling after just having blood taken less than a month prior) I get my results a couple days later and was informed of some how being in the beginning stages of Hepatitis C. Since i am not a drug user or not having any other procedures done that expose me to blood born pathogens its quite obvious where I got Hepatitis C. The main thing that disturbs me is how hard my doctor told me it would be to get hepatitis c from a tattoo parlor. In his exact words "The amount of neglect a professional would have to lack in his sterility in his work area scares me". Also my physician was the one who recommended legal action. I am warning anyone who is considering being tattooed at PREYING MANTIS TATTOO or currently a client of theirs to strongly reconsider their options. read more
