I knew what I wanted to do with the tattoo on my shoulders, so I turned to you all, my trusty yelpers, to find a good shop. Although other shops in the area had good reviews, there was an occaisional mention in each of their review collections of arrogant attitude, which is an absolute deal breaker for me when it comes to tattoos. I have had a lot of tattoos over the course of my life, both in professional shops and in people's garages, LOL. What I have come to find is that the attitude of the tattoo artist has absolutely nothing to do with their skill level. I was out to find a quality, talented, tattoo artist who wouldn't treat me like I was lucky to have a few minutes of his time. Workhorse was the 1st on my list to check out. I had three shops I was going to visit that day and make my decision from there. After my visit to Workhorse, I decided there was no reason to go anywhere else. Eric greeted me at the counter with a smile and bouncy enthusiasm. He put me at ease with his years of experience and quick understanding of what it was I was going for. I made an appointment right then and there to get started. I waited until after my 2nd appointment to leave this review, because after my 1st appointment I wasn't 100% sure. During round one the conversation was amazing, he helped me keep my mind off the pain. In his words: tattoos don't feel like puppy kisses! The line thickness was a little bit more than I wanted in the 1st appointment, which I didn't really realize until later. I came in to visit with him before the 2nd appointment and explained, and he was completely understanding rather than defensive. In the 2nd sitting he made the tweaks that I had asked for to the design and altered his artwork to my exact specifications. I really felt heard, and I think it's safe to say he wants me to like his work as much as I want to like my tattoo! On the second visit I brought my husband to the shop, and they made him feel welcome as well. I don't really know the guys at the shop other than Eric, but they have been really friendly and funny with me. Despite me not being a first timer, I get a little nervous at tattoo time. I mean, Hey, these suckers hurt and they're perminant! The guys in the shop are all really funny and welcoming. Not a trace of attitude, just a few artists who believe in their work and enjoy what they do. They made me feel right at home! We definitely have a lot of work to go, and this is going to be an expensive process. But you definitely get what you pay for, and considering you have to live with it forever ever, I have to say hes totally worth it. It's going to take a couple of months to get all of this work done, but I will be sure to leave a follow up review and pictures at that time. It should also be said that this is an independent shop owned by the 3 artists who work there. The reason this is important to me is not just that I am a huge supporter of local business, but the artists really run the show here. There are no corporate bottom lines or cheap equipment being used because the artists are driving the train. Highly recommend if you need some fully custom work! read more

My friend and I went here to get matching tattoos. We'd been considering it for a long time and finally had a design figured out. They booked us with Leonard, who was very responsive to text, which was wonderful. I was greeted right away and everyone was friendly right off the bat. Leonard understood I was more nervous than my friend who had gotten numerous tattoos before me but was very patient. You got to see him sanitize his work area before and after each tattoo, and use fresh tools which is of course appreciated and very important. Overall the shop was clean and the guys were funny and nice. Our tattoos weren't complicated but they came out even better than I'd expected! Thanks Leonard and the other guys at Workhorse tattoo! 100% agreed with the expelliarmus review... Josh was fantastic in that he is a talented artist and an excellent people-person. I'm not tattoo-inclined by any means (I love them - on other people) but I came in to cover up a mistake I made when I was 18. Josh was super warm/friendly and kept me talking so I felt more than comfortable the whole time. His insanely rad artwork and previous work lining the walls helped with my confidence level considerably. This guy has got it going on visual art-wise. I didn't know what I could do to cover up/fix the random dots on my finger and he turned it into something gorgeous (and he was happy to take the time to mix the exact color I wanted. Points for that. He also guarantees his work. Points for that, too.). I'll update when it has healed a little.. I will say I'm surprised by the level of detail he accomplished in such a small space! Overall, a well-deserved 5 stars Update: given how impractical my tattoo is (finger tattooosssss nooooooo) my tat still looks relatively good a year later and I like that I can get it touched up any time. Love this place, went in Friday night after the tattoo shop on chambers and illff didn't keep the appt we made for my bday. I really wanted my tat on my bday, sounds stupid but you want what you want! So my hubby and I walked in and an hour and half later I had my BEAUTIFUL butterfly on my shoulder. We came back the next day so my hubby could get a cover-up on his shoulder done. I will never go anywhere else for ink. Leonard is fantastic, and so is the rest of the staff. read more

these people did the work on my arm and man did they do a great great job! they people working here were super nice and really knew their stuff! they even helped my friend out when she went in with me when i got my tattoo done. they noticed that her new piercing wasn't looking too great so they helped her out for free! the shop is very clean and each tattooer is not only a tattoo artist but a fine artist too. they have their art up all over their work areas and even use their work areas as a fine arts studio. if you're looking for a great tattoo by friendly people then head right to this shop. this place can be a little pricey but the work they do is worth it. the only bad thing about it is that it's kinda hidden in an old strip mall...but it's a hidden treasure if you ask me read more

Let me just begin by telling you I was extremely nervous to get my first tattoo. I have been wanting a tattoo for years but was always scared that my tattoo wouldn't look how I wanted to. But Josh made my tattoo experience absolutely amazing. He did an amazing job sketching my design and made sure it was what I wanted. He was very light handed and although it wasn't the most pleasant feeling, it was a lot less painful than I expected. He made sure I felt calm and relaxed and does the tattoo fast yet so detailed and precise. The tattoo shop itself is very clean and organized. Leonard is an incredible artist. I had my first tattoo done by him 7 years ago (a portrait) and the quality of his work is amazing. Since then I have stayed loyal to him, even traveling all the way to Colorado from California just to get tattooed by him. I'm not sure what kind of ink he uses but most of my tattoos are older than 5 years and I get compliments daily on the quality and brightness of the color. I have a whole sleeve by him and he has also done a pretty awesome cover-up from a tattoo I got when I was 18 by someone else. Trust his judgement, if he doesn't think something is a good idea, he will tell you and improvise. He's a wise and professional guy and in a world where tattoos are becoming more popular, you want to go to a guy like him because he's not just about the money, he truly cares about the work he puts out. read more
