I ended up paying a lot of money and all she did was input the data. I could've gone anywhere for that and paid much less! She didn't help me find any other possible deductions nor did she help me plan for future deductions. She was rude and condescending when I asked questions about restructuring my business to have a better tax advantage. I learned more in a 60 minute free consultation with my new tax firm than I did in 3 years with these people. I was finally done last year when I uploaded all of my tax documents to their portal. I never spoke to her once and then received an outrageous tax bill! I emailed her and asked her if we could talk about it. Her response? "What is there to talk about? You already gave me all the information." Then she got nasty with me and said she didn't have time to make any changes before the tax deadline and would have to file an extension. I asked her to please do that and she seemed quite pissed. Mind you, every year I start uploading my documents in January so they can get started on my returns before they get too busy. However, I have a couple of forms that I don't receive until about March. She got rude with me again and told me there's no point in giving her anything early and that "people don't do that" like I'm an idiot. We always overpay during the year so that we always receive a large refund. We originally had our return prepared by someone else, also here on Yelp. The original return calculated a federal return of 200+ dollars. Something didn't seem quite right. We decided on a second opinion and based on several reviews coming from several sources, we could not find a negative review for Andrew Sarager so we decided to interview him and gave him no knowledge of the previous return. We wanted an unbiased second opinion. Yes, we did pay two CPAs this year for the same work with no knowledge of one another. The result was a refund of about 15x the original amount form the other CPA. The key here was our depreciation schedules. We offered to obtain them from our retired accountant but the original accountant said no. Andrew Sarager said, it's a must. The return looked a lot like ones prepared by our now retired account which we used since the mid 1980s. We've now found our "forever CPA" and could not be happier. We're posting this because of our lessons learned. Not all CPAs are the same and have the same levels of competence and completeness when handling your financial affairs. Finding a reliable and competent CPA is not easy unless you are just filing a very simple return. Andrew Sarager very openly and honestly disclosed that he has others helping with copying and input but that all returns cross his desk for review and signature. A perfect way to do business in my opinion and that is something that we require. A perfect match for us.
