I was so impressed and grateful to Prima for a fantastic job on my unit. I had a clogged kitchen sink for the second time in the past 6 months. I called Prima this time on a recommendation because the last place I used was so expensive. Prima came on time. They wore booties and a mask in my condo They fixed the problem and importantly, told me two things I could do to avoid this problem in the future. They spotted a leak in my disposal and replaced that. Having done all that they still charged me much less than the last plumber I used did to only snake the drain. Prima did a great job on the work, but the labor bill was too high. They charged us for the discussion time - planning what we were going to do - which I wouldn't classify as labor. Asked Prima to come out and check the tankless water heater they installed at my business that was making a ton of noise during operation. It was less than 6 months old and still under warranty. They checked it, said it was working fine, and then gave me a bill for $300!?? Fixing nothing. I called to see if the bill could be reduced because the water heater and, I assumed, the work would still be under warranty. I called with the right mindset of groveling and respect because I hoped they would work with me. Nope. No can do. The lady that answered gave me all kinds of attitude and told me the "..the bill is what it is" for services rendered "..from professionals." No budging on her part and served up with a heaping dose of disdain for even inquiring for a price reduction. Now, 6 months later, with the problem still persisting, I have been instructed by 3 separate plumbers to replace the water heater because the one Prima installed is not at a capacity for this business and is known to be a residential unit. Nor does the one Prima installed have the ability to be de-scaled or to be put on a pro-active maintenance schedule. Prima's "professionals" get low marks here for: 1) Not adequately assessing the water needs of this business. 2) Not knowing the difference between a residential and commercial water heater. 3) Not informing the previous owner of a more suitable water heater. 4) Unprofessional and unfeeling customer service rep. I understand the value of someone's time but there was no actual work done on this service call. So much about my negative experience with Prima could have been mitigated by a simple and reasonable reduction of the fee of that "service call" given the short amount of time we had that original water heater, their inability to adequately assess the problem and the absence of actual work done to fix the problem. Looking over the other negative reviews I see there's a thread developing about their phone person and her apparent lack of customer service skills. Maybe something Prima should address? read more

I called Prima to install some new water lines and a hose bib because they were close to my home. They were super friendly and had a quote and timing to me in one day. I've spent quite a bit of $$$ with Prima in the past two weeks, and I am 100% satisfied. Excellent service, quality work, a responsive, professional organization from end to end. I am remodeling a home, and decided to repipe the entire house with PEX (the newfangled plastic piping that everyone is using). I have no experience with PEX, and my timeline is tight, so I decided to farm it out to another company. I called several of the top rated companies in the area, and asked for bids. Prima was not the lowest bid, but I picked them over the other companies. Why? Jake was both the estimator, and the plumber who came to do the work. He spent a long time with me looking at the house, looking for problem areas, exploring options, and going into deep detail about what they were going to do. When their bid arrived (roughly 5 days later), the bid reflected this level of detail, and spelled out exactly what they were going to do in writing. Very different from the vague bids I got from other companies. When I called with questions about the bid, I got a response within hours. I've worked with a lot of sub contractors, and I'm reasonably good at separating the pros from the shmucks. Prima are pros. Jake did the work, along with Wayne. Both were nice guys, and seemed 'on task' when they were working. Alexander, their dispatcher, is a great guy and very responsive to customers needs. Greta is the head honcho (well, wife of the head honcho...in other words, the REAL head honcho:) , and she was friendly and easy to work with. Top notch, professional company. read more

These guys are the best!!! They will bend over backwards to help you. They're a small mom and pop shop but they'll always find a way to squeeze you in if you're in distress. My water heater was boiling water and leaking like crazy. They basically showed up at my door within a day and even installed a temporary water heater at no cost while they were preparing the gas installation. I called a few companies to estimate the work (converting to a gas tankless heater) and Prima's guy was by far the most exhaustive in looking for potential issues and helping us to plan the installation right. read more

Our hot water heater was only putting out 'warm' water instead of hot. We called about 8am on a Tuesday and Larry was over before 9a. He did a quick assessment of the heater and suggested a quick adjustment. That seemed to fix it and he was nice enough to call back two days later to make sure it was still working. I just called this company and attempted to explain what I needed for work / proposal and the woman cut me off and told me to call another company that is more local. This is after I looked at the company website and the service areas supposedly included my area. If you're changing your service areas, update the website so as to reflect your true demographic. I won't waste my time calling you if your site says we cover Ballard only. I've been doing research for two days straight about a project and found the company she recommended has a not-so-positive reputation here on yelp. Poor attitudes are not welcome where I work. I'm finding that with the improving economy - companies can now afford to be rude, non-responsive and or offer no follow-through. Amazing Customer Service Experience and Problem Solvers! Contacted Prima Plumbing through the find-a-local-service-company feature on my hot water tank manufacturer's website. I liked the name (reminded me of Primo Beer) and am so glad I called. They saved me a bunch of money and I learned a few things. Jake took my call and I discussed my situation (leaking recirculation copper flex pipe on side of tank). He suggested I take pictures and email to him for proper diagnosis. After reviewing he suggested an easy homeowner fix, or if I'd like they could come out and deal with it. I opted to fix myself - it was easy, no leaks and works great. Repair cost about $30 and was performed with 2 wrenches I had at home. During the pipe replacement I ended up with a significant amount of air in our radiant floor heat system (connected to water heater). I phoned a friend (Jake) and he patiently explained exactly how to do it (turn off system, lock circulation pump, drain from specific valve, unlock pump, restart). Jake called me at home after hours to make sure I was getting along OK. The procedure wasn't difficult, but I never would have figured it out had he not helped over the phone. In addition to leak, it seems our water temp in winter isn't as hot as summer. Again, Jake diagnosed problem and suggested another solution that I easily took care of, saving over $100 on parts to replace what I thought was a faulty mixing valve (it wasn't, but there was a trick to adjusting the mix that only a plumber would know). Prima Plumbing totally rocks and I would recommend them highly. If they treated someone this well over the phone, imagine how they'll hook you up if you are a paying customer! read more

I've had a Yelp account for over two years. I've never left a review. I just haven't felt the urge. That changed this morning when Larry from Prima Plumbing unclogged my toilet. I called them at 7:30 a.m. (loved that they opened early!). Alex on the phone was prompt, courteous, and got Larry, the head plumber, scheduled to come to my condo at 8:30 a.m. The first place I called said between 11 a.m. & 1 p.m, so this was music to my ears. Larry arrived early at 8:25 a.m. and within minutes the toilet was unclogged. But it didn't stop there. He also tightened the screw on my wobbly seat, and fixed up the chain in the toilet innards so now I don't need to hold down the lever for a few seconds to flush. He's been in the business for 44 years, and we had a lovely conversation about how toilet technology has changed since the 1960's. (One word: plastics!) And it didn't stop there! Alex called me a few hours later to let me know that they were sending me a couple of complimentary bolts to make sure my toilet seat would stay in place! Very, very pleased! Arrived quickly, polite, neat, helpful, thoughtful. More than that, went beyond the call of duty, and gave options for possible solutions (like, go to the store, get this part and do it yourself.) Also, stopped the clock while awaiting a co-worker's arrival with a specific tool. And phoned after he left to give a personal after-hours call-back number in case problems weren't fully resolved. Called on short notice, Larry (the owner) dropped by, did a quick assessment, and called with an estimate 20 minutes later, as promised. The price was right in the range of what he had told us over the phone. Half an hour after THAT, another guy came by to complete the job, and was done within an hour or so (we were having a water line run from the basement to our fridge). Dude was super polite and friendly and cleaned up all of his mess (including replacing some boards he had to remove). So, to recap: friendly, FAST, appropriately priced, and great follow through. Called due to a leaky sink, Alex was very nice and let me walk through what I was experiencing. Although I don't know the terms, he understood what I was talking about from my laymen terms of things. Unfortunately, they were booked out for the next couple of weeks and I'm not in a neighborhood they have on the books during that timeframe. Quick, Competent, and Reasonably Priced. I called yesterday because I was having pressure issues in my kitchen sinks. They tried to help me fix it on the phone, but I was out of my depth and asked them to just send someone out. Pete showed up with the schematics of my two faucets, found the issue on the first sink in a couple of minutes, fixed it, immediately found the same issue on the other sink, and fixed that. After a different gas plumber cancelled on us and left us in a no oven during Thanksgiving bind, Prima saved the day and helped us out by installing a gas pipe on pretty short notice. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and polite. Their prices were fair and we think they did a great job. Fall 2012: We recently bought a 1920's house in Ballard that had had major renovation work done. We first called Prima during escrow as recommended by our real estate agent to check out everything, including some things the home inspector had pointed out. Jake was prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful in evaluating our concerns about plumbing and plumbing fixture installations, venting systems, and a new tankless water heater that also serves a new hydroponic heating system. A month later we had Pete to the house for a service call for a garbage disposal problem that he took care of quickly and educated us on for the future. In addition, as we requested, he evaluated the laundry area and made recommendations on adjustments to the old 1920's plumbing for more efficient and aesthetic installation of the future washer and dryer. Update April 2013: Now we have had Prima redo the basement's old plumbing set up for a new washer and dryer, including the snake and flush out to the sewer lateral. There was a delivery delay by Costco but Prima checked with us often to ensure their schedule would be ready when we were. And now the washer and dryer are up and going with peace of mind that all has been correctly prepared and installed. Glad to have this efficient and professional company nearby. A pleasure to deal with Larry, Gerda and the others at Prima! Well worth the money. Summer 2013: Have had Pete from Prima out to our house several times since to make some minor plumbing repairs on old 1920s plumbing and to do a resetting and repair of a leaking toilet (saving us 100s of dollars in replacing it.) Always knowledgeable and patient. The work is always done very professionally the first time and everything is cleaned up as they leave. Midnight leak in our antique claw-foot tub, water all over the floor threatening to flood the ceiling downstairs. Called around and found Prima Plumbing in our neighborhood. Gretta, the co-owner of Prima, walked me through the first steps to get things under control and sent out her husband, Larry, that afternoon. 1 1/2 hours later, our plumbing to our awesome old tub was in mint condition, leak free and ready for years of long, hot bubble baths! Larry had boxes of old washers and flange nuts to fit our tub, and did a creative job using our old brass water supply tubes so it still looks awesome. Quick response, very helpful and friendly, expert repair of our antique tub. Not the cheapest plumbers you will find, just the best. read more

PRIMA IS PRIMO! Honestly, we have used Prima over the years for several things and have always been 100% satisfied. I actually look forward to the guys coming because they are so nice and professional and helpful. They did a hard plumbing job to add a two-in-one washer dryer to our top floor and it's fantastic. Two other folks did not know what to do. They have done two sump pumps for us in our rental with equal care and speed. We call them for sink and tub issues and know they will fix things perfectly. They were prompt, professional, honest, and handled everything very quickly. They fixed a leak in my kitchen sink with redoing the drainlines, and resetting a toilet that a plumber had done poorly from another company the previous year. My wife and I didnt have a good experience with these guys. We just had our kitchen remodeled and we needed a plumber to come in and hook up our water lines to our sink, dishwasher and our icemaker and also to replace the old piping in the kitchen. Long story short, they came and replaced all the plumbing in a few hours and charged us $1900. Even our general contractor who was there at the time was shocked to see the bill for how little work they did and that didnt even include hooking up the appliances. They sent us another bill for $500 to do "finishing" work on our kitchen. We think they were just trying to get away with over charging us for no reason. We are unhappy with their service and wont use them again. read more

The garbage disposal in the house we rent went out last week. I gave several plumbing companies a call, left voicemails and never heard back from them. Then I called Prima Plumbing. They answered the phone right away. When I explained what was going on and that they were the fourth company I had called, they said yes it is common that many people take vacations this time of year and do not have sufficient back up in place to cover the business when employees are gone. They, however, do make sure they have someone available at all times. I explained what was going on and he, step-by-step, gave me detailed instructions on how to troubleshoot on our own. If that didn't work, he instructed me to give them a call back to make an appointment. So, instead of booking someone to come out, we tried what he recommended and IT WORKED! Just by the kindness of the guy on the phone, we avoided having to spend several hundred dollars just to have someone come out and look at the disposal. I would like to stress that we have not yet been a client of Prima Plumbing but nonetheless were giving excellent customer service upon our first interaction. While this time around, we did not need their services (thanks to them!), I will now keep them at the top of my mind the next time we need a plumber. read more

Homeowner beware! We developed a problem with our hot water heater. We informed the office our issue and they scheduled a repair person to come out. The serviceman spent the entire 30 minutes on the phone with the company, since he was not familiar with our brand of heater. He did not fix the problem. WE received a bill for $160 which was accompanied by a note stating that they had informed us at the time of the call that they were not authorized to work on our system. Hmmmm. We tried to rationally explain that if they had informed us, why would we pay $160/30 minutes to have someone talk on the phone, and then inform us that we could have done that ourselves. We chose this company based on all the positive reviews here but, for us at least, it was not a good fit. To make a long story short, we needed a replacement part for our water heater. We got a quote range that felt like a lot but reasonable considering how much plumbers charge. But, you know the story, we ended up with a bill that was well over double the quote. I'm all about surprises except when it involves a bill with digits in the thousandths place. We'll be looking elsewhere next time. read more

The owner is courteous, prompt, and very thorough. I read a lot of reviews before reaching out to them for a quote. He was incredibly easy to work with scheduled a visit to get me an estimate, and a day later when he provided me the estimate, it was exactly as expected. The installation was painless as two additional professional plumbers showed up and zipped thru a complete sump install replacement, new basin, concrete, and cleanup. Everything went perfectly. They even offered to take with them an old disconnected water heater that was updated recently for free. They exceeded my expectations and when I had questions a couple weeks later and wanted to check out an odd noise I was hearing they dropped by that day and checked it out for me. I plan on using them again for a bathroom remodel/replumb in the future. read more

Wife was 35 weeks pregnant. We had just returned home from Thanksgiving with our 2.5 year old. And water was leaking from the kitchen ceiling. Stuck without a plumber, I had a Yelp moment. Prima sent Matthew out right away to apply an emergency fix and stop the bleeding. On a second visit, Prima capped off the old galvanized attic lines and ran new PEX lines under the house. I had them move washer and dryer hookups and drain while they were there as well. Kent, Wayne, and Matthew saved the day again. I was particularly impressed with the floor joist surgery to move the washer drain. We were out of our house during the insurance claim but really wanted to get back in before the baby arrived. Greta in the office worked hard to have the work done and inspected by Christmas Eve. She then helped me for weeks clarifying the details of the work to support the insurance claim process. As I sit next to my 5 week old son while I type this, I feel deeply thankful for the support shown by the entire Prima team. I feel like I must have talked to everyone there at least once, and they were all courteous and helpful. Prima stuck with me and gave a happy ending to a bad situation. I woke up with a cold shower, and the day only got worse after that. I had high hopes for Prima Plumbing, but was greatly let down. After calling a few places I decided to go with Prima due to their good Yelp reviews, despite their high prices. I assumed that their high prices would translate to highly trained experts that could quickly diagnose and fix an issue. Well, after an hour of staring at my unit the technician was still was not sure what was wrong and would have to come back another day for further tests and a possible fix. Well, that was $240 dollars down the drain. He said the further tests would take at least 2-3 hours ($320-$480). I could hear my wallet being emptied already. Once he left I got a call back from another plumber who was able to diagnose the problem in less than 2 minutes on the phone due to his knowledge of the unit and said he wouldn't charge more than 2 hours at $80 an hour and parts would be free. Prima also said they wouldn't be able to send someone the next day, so that meant another day of cold showers. Not thrilled with that idea, I opted not to hire Prima for the job. The guy I decided to hire for the repair ended up charging me less than $100 for the repair and was there at 9am the next morning. It's very frustrating to pay Prima $240 for doing absolutely nothing, but I was thrilled to not be fleeced for an additional $300-$500. read more

Very impressed with customer service in office and with plumber (Pete did the work for me). I called a few plumbers but no one called back. Prima answered phone and promptly followed up with scheduling a week out. They tried to fit me in sooner which they did and Pete came on time as promised and did a great job - was polite , didn't waste time, and cleaned up afterwards. I was charged a reasonable fee. I wouldn't hesitate to call this company again if I need to which I hope I don't! But overall a good experience. read more
