I came in today looking for a less common cut of meat - they told me they sometimes carry it but didn't have any today. But it gave me a chance to check out the rest of the store. I liked the cuts of beef, and their prices for them, more than anything else here, but I didn't see anything special about the other meat options. I was lured back by an offer of a $19.99 special that turned out to be a Trojan horse: tasty samplings of thick cut pork chops, a big skinless chicken breast in "house" marinade, a nice strip steak, and a couple juicy ground beef patties. All were superb and made me want to buy more, especially that "house" marinade which has a spicy chili kick on top of a lemony flavor profile. Everyday prices are a little high here but the specials are great. And they do have sampling, generally a chafing dish with four meat dishes and some spreads to try with pretzels for dipping. read more

Overpriced. Deceptive. Make sure to ask/see the total per unit cost after they weigh and label your order. They try to walk over your order to the register and get you to pay without seeing the markup they did behind the counter. I ended up paying $12/lb for a choice brisket (not trimmed), which was labeled significantly less at the counter. Adds up when you're getting a ~20lb brisket. You can get a Wagyu brisket from Snake River Farms for less, which has great customer service btw. Trying to support local but Primal's cost and tactics aren't a good value in my opinion. I love this location. I feel like the staff here are more friendly and personable than the Clifton Park location - the selection is better here too. I went in recently to redeem a 19.99 sale offer that included hot dogs; however, since they couldn't guarantee that the hot dogs were gluten free since they weren't made there, they allowed us to swap for Italian sausage, which they could verify were gluten free since they were made in house. The price was the same so it probably didn't matter much to them, but I still really appreciate it. You'd be surprised how many places simply refuse to make even the smallest accommodations for people with severe allergies, but it's glad to know the staff at Primal care enough to make those accommodations when they can. Overall, this is one of the best spots in the area to get good quality meat, poultry, etc. but what really draws me in are the specialty meats in the back freezer: pork skin, alligator, frogs legs, chicken feet, lamb heart, veal kidney, etc. Organ meat and pork skin especially can be hard to find, but they always seem to have some in stock and the prices are good too. As long as they keep selling meats that I can't find anywhere else and provide good service, I'm going to keep coming back. read more

Tough to shop here as meat cases are so high you can't see staff. Wait in line & they don't say "who's next" , they just take order from closest body so the line & etiquette is a waste of time. Just be a boss & flag a dude down to wait on you. Then be ready when he disappears ... wait some more ... and when you ask "where my package" they'll yell from front of store "oh I have it here by the register". What? Did you run away? Oh well. Didn't get to shop the rest of the store so I'll buy my other items elsewhere. Who designed this "customer experience"?? I made Beef Wellington, for the first time, this Christmas. Naturally, I pre-ordered a center cut beef tenderloin roast from Primal. I was on the fence as to how much I should order. The employee who helped me (wish I could remember his name) suggested ordering a little more in the event we wanted leftovers. "Of Beef Wellington??", I asked. "Sure!", he replied. SOOOO glad I did. It was amazing on Christmas and EVEN BETTER a couple of days later. The cut of meat was PERFECT and these people know what they are talking about. This must be a great employer because everytime I walk in there, everyone acts so happy and they are ALL so knowledgeable. People who hate their jobs, usually, aren't this knowledgeable or enthusiastic about the product. I've already planned Easter dinner and a few other meals in between...Primal, I'm coming for ya! read more

I really was torn as to whether or not I wanted to review the Meat House. I started going there shortly after they opened and generally had pretty good experiences. The quality of everything that I purchased was quite good and the customer service was super friendly. I have recently been there twice and after my last visit I have vowed to never go back again. The two times I have been there, all I wanted was a sandwich. Each time I pre-ordered the sandwich by calling ahead. I would give them over 20 or 30 minutes to have it ready by the time I arrived. Each time I had to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes to get the sandwich that I had already called for. (I called ahead due to being in a rush). One time the sandwiches were wrapped as if a 3 year old child grabbed some crumpled paper and tossed it around. Another time I stood in an almost empty store....with lots of staff ignoring me....for about 15 minutes (Again...after I had called ahead almost a half hour before). Finally a manager(?) asked if I was being helped (he was very nice) and I told him that I was just waiting for a couple of sandwiches. He looked and said, "oh it looks like they're almost done. They're over there on the bench." Problem was, nobody was working over there. So it took another few minutes for him to realize that nobody was finishing up sandwiches so he had to do it himself. I'm really not a fan of negative reviews but they really need to be aware of the staff problem. I know that they try to be super friendly and that "good help is hard to find", but my last two experiences have been so terrible that I really don't care if the quality is that good. read more

First, it's in a Prime location (right next to a great grocery store) there's tons of often unique spicy stuff, condiments and pastas and such to help spice up your meal, Staff is helpful and answered all my questions, selection variety is on point. Not to mention the non-hormone and antibiotic-free aspect... this place wins for many miles around, just please keep your prices fair for us out of town mountain folk to justify the journey! read more

This is premium (price and quality) butcher shop that has so much more than meat to offer. They have an excellent selection of meat cuts, but they go above and beyond with some of the combinations and prepared choices. They also have a full service deli with many awesome selections and plenty of great sides. Their pulled pork sandwich was amazing! In addition, they also have a great selections of rubs and marinades, chips, craft beers, breads, cheese and so much more. The ONLY drawback that keeps me from coming here every week are the high prices. This place isn't cheap but the quality is worth it if you can afford it. The service is also excellent! On my first visit, they showed me around and even offered some free samples of their meats and some of their other wares. Subsequent visits have also been very pleasant with great personal service. read more

For your butchering needs I am sure Primal is as good as ever, but I have to knock off a star for the declining quality of their sandwiches. They used to be very generous with the meat and other fillings, and a sub cut in half would easily satisfy two people. Several visits over the past year or two have shown this is no longer the case. It's disappointing to bite down on a sub and realize your mouth is pretty much filled with bread and perhaps a garnish of meat. I've actually said, "never again," but then I remember how great the sandwiches used to be, and give them another try, only to wish I hadn't. The Meat House bills it self as part-deli and part-butcher shop. It is definitely a unique addition to Saratoga Springs. The store just opened in the last few days and I visited to days ago. I do have to warn upfront that this is probably a store I won't visit very often, because I buy nearly all my meat from our local farmers market. (I prefer, for a variety of reasons) to buy pastured beef, pork, lamb, chicken and goat. The downside of this practice is that all the meat is pre-packaged and you cannot get meat butchered to your own specifications.) Anyway, enough about me. The Meat House is quite large for a butcher shop and deli and the focal point are three sets of very large meat cases. They sell a variety of meats (including chicken, pork, and beef), and I'd say that beef lovers come out on top. Many of their cuts are "enhanced" and oven-ready, such as marinated meats (a wide variety), stuffed and rolled cuts. The displays are very attractive and they were giving out several samples, all of which were definitely tasty. One large case is devoted to Boars Head deli products (meat and cheese) and they will make a variety of sandwiches and wraps to go. In the back of the store, there is a large refrigerated section with a selection (limited) of cheeses, some of which are "local" (from Vermont) and pre-packed marinated meat cuts, ready to put in the oven or on your grill. In the front, have a selection of pastas, condiments, canned tomatoes, etc. They also feature a display where you can buy "bulk" olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The olive oil is extra virgin from Greece. They were not giving samples, but I would definitely go back and give that a try. In the end, I bought some Prosciutto di Parma (something I cannot get at the farmers market) and they offered me a free sample of uncooked beef "steak tips" that I cooked up at home and was good. The feature that stands out most about this store is their complete commitment to winning customers as soon as you walk in the store. All of the people working there (and there are quite a few) are extraordinarily friendly. They greet you when you walk in, they give you a "tour" to tell you about their products, they offer free tastes. They also told me that they are committed to walking customers groceries out to the car - although since I only had ten slices of prosciutto and a small package of steak tips, I felt to silly to take them up on the offer. But still, it was nice, and a world away from the usually more indifferent type of check-out experience one is used to. I intend to go back - to try their olive oil, and perhaps a few other things. One thing I can't address is the grade of their meats overall. Is it choice grade, or select? (They do seem to have a small section of Prime Beef). A visit to their website doesn't really answer the question. They talk about many of their meats being "natural" but that of course is an adjective that doesn't have a specific meaning in the meat world. The Meat House is in a small strip mall (same one in the "Wilton mall complex as Chipotle Grill, next to Price Chopper). Parking is easy of course and it is near many other places people in the area visit regularly. read more

I am a big meat fan, so I decided to see what all the hype about this supposed "meat" house was. First impresssions: upon entering and heading to the meat counter (they have two main counters, one for cold-cuts and the other for meat), I was kindly welcomed and asked if it was my first time there. I said yes and was given a sample pack of their sirloin beef tips. Their case isn't as large as I expected, but if you glance to your left, you'll notice they have huge walk-ins. I asked about getting a pork butt and the butcher told me they have their larger cuts in the back. I took my time and browsed their selections and pricing. It was nice that I was not pushed to hurry up and I was asked by several employees if I needed any help. I ended up getting a rather large T-bone steak, the pork butt, a flank steak and several varieties of their sausages. The good: I grilled up the 1.7lb T-bone for my sickly wife on the weekend and it was absolutely devine. I hate the cliche, but it was indeed "like butter" Worth the $17. The marinated beef tips were also tasty - though I didn't really get a chance to see how much they cost as this was a free sample. The bad: The sausage. I got two garlic/cheese, two brats and a chorizo and the total for that part of my bill was way beyond anything I've ever paid for some ground up scraps and spices. So you'd expect them to be devine right? Chorizo was the strangest I've ever had, tasted like they mixed italian seasoning with some hot sauce and called it a day. The Brats were flavorless even after simmering in beer for 20 minutes and then grilling. The garlic/cheese weren't awful, but two small links were like $3 and well - they weren't that good. This place clearly goes waaay out of it's way for you - I started to pick up my bag and leave, and this guy grabbed it out of my hand and TOLD me he was going to bring it to my car for me. He laughed through his teeth when I told him I was going to Chipotle for additional meatage and could take it from there. Stick with the non-ground/processed/marinated meats here and I think you will be pleased with your experience unless they run away with your bag. read more

The butcher section of this place is awesome, with lots of fresh cuts and also those hard-to-find meats in the freezer section (stuff like tongue, pork feet, tripe, and also exotic/game meats like wild boar sausage, alligator tail, venison, etc.). They also carry many spices, which are actually nicely priced for the amount you're getting. Sauces and salsas, vinagrettes, and olive oil are also around, as well as a beer section, fresh milk, and other goodies to check out. The deli side on the other hand makes me sad. I had a steak and cheese sandwich. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either, which is odd to me because it's a butcher y'know? I didn't go to the store to get that sandwich, my friends were there and I told them to grab me one. Later, when I went myself to grab some sandwiches for us, I saw that the steak is already cooked with a slice of cheese on top, then are microwaved when ordered. I'm not saying microwaves are bad, but I usually only like to use a microwave either for leftovers, or at work. I have heard that they make your steak fresh if it isn't for a bunch of people though, so I'll have to get back to you on that. I would say to check it out, and see how you like it. As with some other reviews, the staff was friendly, and if you don't like something, it's not like you're obligated to buy anything. read more

See reviews of Clifton Park Meat House. Old review- Stopped in and got some steak tips and Strip Steak on Saturday. Had a long discussion about grass fed beef with the guy behind the meat counter. They don't carry it but can get it. Everything was very good, esp their branded marinated steak tips. The strips were very good, def a step above grocery store meat but I am not sure enough to justify their prices. Would be 4 stars if their prices were a little more reasonable. The guy behind the counter did note everything was unusually high due to market prices. I will be back on a somewhat limited basis. read more

I went to the Meat House today. The place was packed. This place is smaller, and tight, but full of interesting local and specialty products. They had samples everywhere and they were delicious... Their meat case seemed adequate, and I bought some marinated beef tips and chicken breast for a cook out tonight. All I can say is I couldnt wait to get on here and write about it! The service was outstanding, the place was clean (unusually clean for a butcher shop in this area- which makes me feel a lot better about shopping there), and they had some VERY hard to find things in this area-- dry aged meats, prime meats, antibiotic and hormone free chicken and beef. I Also picked up some of Oscar;s Smokehouse cheese spread and this fresh salsa I sampled. It was all amazing and I will definitely be back!!! read more

The other reviewers were pretty much spot on, so I won't describe everything. We had a porterhouse and some veggies. The veggies are all marinated, but not cooked. The carrots don't work out at all. The person behind the counter told us to put the carrots in the oven, but they won't really cook that way. So we had hard carrots with no marinade flavor at all. They should really par-cook them. We roasted the asparagus in a very hot oven, and they were delicious. The meat prices were pretty high, about what a prime steak would be at the butcher where I live, but it's not advertised as prime, so I'm not sure what it is - choice? The steak was delicious....I think that was 12.99/lb. It's an interesting place to shop and pick up dinner - I would go there again. Oh, they had steak tip samples - yum. I was introduced to the Meat House a few years back on a visit to York ME. Meat was out of this world. After leaving ME and coming back to NY I could not find meat as tasty, so I would order regularly from ME. Now I have one in Albany. The meat was wonderful. I just put either the lime-cilentro turkey breasts or the store brand steak tips, on a pannini grill and cook. Only takes a few minutes and they are to die for. Management and staff are friendly,most helpful and courteous but not obtrusive. Pricy, but I never have a complaint about tough meat or bland taste from the family. Impeccable customer service- 5 star- however they could have more local meat, chicken isn't organic despite being cruelty free/cage free and beef is grain finished...I prefer grass fed & grass finished. The Meat House was a thousand times better than Primal for the last 5 years I traveled over an hour and a half to Albany just to get exceptional meats. Never in all that time did I ever have a chewy, grizzly steak tip or any other cut also the selection was a lot less in other types of meat. Chicken etc and what was on display didn't look good either I seen better at Walmart. Sorry to say they lost a customere. read more
