I don't know if people complain because of their "speed" on appointments or the "quality" of patient care. Quality patient care must take time to listen, diagnose, identify and offer effective treatment plans. Nowadays, medical care is about speed, so doctors are under tremendous pressure to see their patients in under 15 minutes. This kind of expectation will not work well here at this eye center. They take care of their patients as no one can. They focus on precision diagnostics and patients' health quality. Not just eye exams but holistic checkups to ensure they can work with you to protect "the windows of your soul." My parents were under the Medical-Cal eye care plan, and I was so surprised about how much care this center is willing to take care of my Senior parents, especially both my parents do not speak any English. They were patient and caring. They went through a significant detail to understand their overall health and eyes conditions. We were under the care of both Dr. Kerman and Dr. Lee. I was so happy with them for five years, and eventually, I brought all my family members under this eye center's care. The bonding and trust they are establishing are genuinely remarkable to their dedication to their patients.. If you need a good diagnosis, do not rush to come to your eye appointment. Horrible service Came here for a 2:40 apt Waited until 5 pm Came to get some prescription eye drops for my eyes after having lasik , they tell me I'm going to have to go through "a few" other prescriptions before I can get the one I actually need including a regular over the counter one (but they are making me pick it up as a prescription) this place SCREAMS SCAM ! to me !!! My husband comes here for his appointments and it sucks....... They take waaaay tooooooo loooong, plus the staff keeps talking and talking, as if they ain't got a job to do... His appointment was at 2pm today 05/31/2019 and we have been waiting for an hour. They finally called him back @ 3pm but only went to get his eye drops. So, now, we are waiting for the doctor in the waiting area. They finally called him back there at 340pm. SMH I complained about it last time we were here and thought maybe they changed there process but nope, its still the same. My husband hates it when I complain cuz his not the type to say stuff cuz he doesn't like to make a scene cuz he gets embarrassed but if no one complains, then they aren't going to change their process. So, hopefully this review will open up their eyes and other patients as well to say something. Wow. After finding their not-great rating on Yelp I was a bit concerned. I'd never questioned them because my doctor referred me, telling me that as a diabetic I could no longer just see an optometrist, but that I need an ophthalmologist and he gave me Castro Valley Eye Center's business card referring me to Diane Albracht. I read through the reviews and absolutely agree with many of them. They do take a crazy amount of time to get through an appointment, and I have to plan on losing a morning or afternoon. I also agree that the "contact lens fitting fee" is ridiculous for a few reasons one of which is below. But what is actually blowing my diabetic compression socks off is that in digging around online I realized that when the Dr. Albracht lost her fight with cancer, they switched me to be treated by the only *optometrist* they have on staff. They just refer to everyone as Doctor. They REALLY should have informed me about this and given me a choice. Or HELLO! Diabetes! Why hand a diabetic off to the only optometrist? I really liked my old optometrist who did a great job and had the latest equipment to perform detailed retinal exams, who I left because my primary care physician insisted I see an ophthalmologist. Now here I am with an optometrist that is merely ok and never follows through on "We'll get those contact lenses in for you and call you when they're in." (Never happens. Twice in a row now I've paid out of pocket for the fitting and returned for a follow up but NEVER got my lenses. And the second time I even mentioned that he'd forgotten to order my lenses the previous year, which he didn't address seriously.) Who decided how the previous ophthalmologist's clients were divided up? I feel duped. And doubly so because as an OPTOMETRIST getting contacts in should be much more in his wheelhouse than assessing the level of diabetic damage in my eyes. Also, I had the appointment with the doctor but end up with no record. Last thing, this place is super super old and dirty. I can't believe this place is for eye care. Beware of this facility - fraudulent billing (the Doctors are all COOL) I visited this facility on Sept 27, 2010 for a regular eye examine and got a bill for $100.00 I called my insurance - Aetna. Two representatives from Aetna have confirmed me that the billing from Castro Valley Eye Centers IS incorrect.. The max at the worse, I should pay no more than $60.00. One of the representative suggested that I should show my last bill from Nov 21 2009 & send it the Castro Valley billing for reference. I did, but this Peg from the Castro Valley facility accused my Nov 2009 billing as "fraudulent". In my last 20 years I have 18 visits. All visits are billed identically. How come all the other 18 were fraudulent while this Peg is being the only one that bills correctly. The truth is: 1) If Peg bills the insurance the regular way, she can only get up to that certain amount. No one in the world can milk the insurance company. 2) Billing it Peg's way, apart from getting the same amount from the insurance, she can also milk me for more. The bottom line -EXTRA income. The fact is very clear. Greed & Fraudulent for more money Another Aetna rep suggested that I should get a "super-bill" before committing. But I do have better suggestions. 1) If you are OK with your current doctor. Stay put. Do not patronize this facility even it is closer than your current doctor. 2) If you must visit this Castro Valley Eye Center, make sure that this Peg no longer works there. 3) Should you must visit this facility, make sure that you get a "super-bill" as suggested by the Aetna representative. I made my mistake and end up being milked. I don't want you to be the next victim of a scrupulous billing, especially in this economy. read more

How impressed I was! I've been seeing the same ophthalmologist and his optometrist in Hayward for well over 25 years. A well known Doctor. After my last visit, I'd had it with the consistently HORRIBLE service I received EVERY SINGLE TIME I WENT. (my bad for not switching a long time ago, but you know the way it goes, right?) Every time I went there, and I mean EVERY time, I would have high blood pressure from watching how poorly they ran their business, and how they just stacked patient upon patient in their expansive waiting "stadium". I'd sit there and listen to delightful elderly patients lament on the fact that it's ALWAYS been this way. Of course I concurred. So I'd finally had it. I asked a great Medical Doctor whom I've appreciated for years if he had any recommendations, since he too was there in Castro Valley, close to the Castro Valley Eye Center. I decided to set up an appointment, and when I went there the week of 03/07/2016, I was BLOWN AWAY. I filled out the normal "new patient" paperwork, and within minutes I was in a back office. But where I'd always been used to being moved to an office with these other folks, where that just meant another long wait, just not out in the lobby, this was night and day. With C.V. Eye Center, I was served immediately. From the optometrist to the ophthalmologist, and all of the staff, I sensed a real team spirit, real client care standards, and a doctor that had the time to really chat with me. I didn't feel like another head of cattle in the herd. You guys understand what service and client appreciation look like. I'll be back every 6 months for my check-ups and recommend you to EVERYONE who even blinks (pun intended) like they need a great optometrist or ophthalmologist! Quite an impressive experience. I was a first time patient with no insurance but was still given a "same day" appointment. I had been fighting an eye infection for weeks and had seen another doctor elsewhere, but my eye was getting worse. Luckily I got to see Dr. Kerman who made me laugh by exclaiming "yuk !" when he looked at my eye. He proceeded to give me immediate relief by pulling some inward turning eye lashes that were scratching my eye. Weird but true . He was not only ultra-professional, but kind and funny. They were so nice when I came in, and really went above and beyond in helping me organize my records for my son's school (not easy while we are still not fully open). I had cyst removed from my eye by Dr. Barry Kerman. He did an excellent job removing the cyst. The problem I have with this place is the wait time. Every time I came for an appointment I had to wait well over two hours. Also, they let me sit and wait in the waiting room on the first date my surgery was scheduled for before I was told they had scheduled the surgery for the wrong day. Dr Kerman apparently doesn't do surgeries on Fridays and that was the day of the week the office staff scheduled my surgery for. So I had to reschedule the surgery for another day. A complete waste of my time. It is not professional to have patients waiting for lengthy periods of time every time they come for a scheduled visit. Nor is it professional to schedule and let a patient come in for surgery on the wrong day of the week. I would not recommend going here because of the total disregard for the patients time. read more

I had a terrible experience today visiting the CV Eye Center. This was my second appointment in about two years. This time I specifically went for contact lens prescription as it's been over two years and I am down to just one contact lens. When I made the appointment, I told the woman on the phone about my change in insurance and my urgent need for this contact lens appointment. She said they accept this insurance but contact lenses were not included, they would be extra. That was fine and what I expected. When i got there today, I was the only client (in the waiting room area) so they did not appear busy. The woman at the desk said she was not the same woman who made my appointment (does anyone use their name anymore, without someone having to ask?). She copied all the information I brought with me (my previous contact lens prescription along with the boxes for the brand, fitting size and prescription of each left and right eye. A moment after I sat down, she asked me if I was told about the contact lens fitting fee. I said no. She said it ranges between $40-$75. I told her I was not prepared to pay a fee at today's visit but if they could bill me, that would be great. She said she needed to check with the office manager, came back a moment later and said "No, I'm sorry, we can't". I've never been treated this way by any doctor's office before. It was awkward and embarrassing for all, including my 9 year old daughter who was with me. I will never go back to this eye center again. Today they lost a customer. read more

Be prepared to spend at least two hours at your appointment, mostly waiting to be seen. I've had six different appointments over the last two years (not drop in or emergency appointments). When you arrive you wait in the waiting room, which is full of patients. Then you wait in the exam room. Then you go back to the packed waiting room. Then you go back in the exam room. I had catarat surgery in April 2014 and can't get my experience off my mind. The left eye was first. Dr Albracht did the surgery using a new procedure she was learning (with an advisor at hand). During the procedure I heard her say (to the advisor), "This is my hobby, I like doing it". On post op I informed her that the vision in the left eye was now magnified (the images were larger that the right eye). She said she'd put in a lense that I had wanted. Well, what do I know about lenses? She had choosen the lense and to my view (pun intended) she chose the wrong lense. The right eye went well. On post op she kind of apologized for the incorrect lense saying I shouldn't blame myself (I had nothing to do with the choices) nor would she blame herself. She then said I could hav laser surgery for further correction. I wondered, was this to correct a condition she had created? read more

I'm not sure what the details are with Norm's issue, but I've gone to Castro Valley Eye Center for years, and they've been nothing but good to me. Great doctors (I would regularly see Dr. Lee, (and occasionally Dr Albrecht), and both were extremely professional and great to deal with. I recently had to switch doctors because I moved out of the area, but if I ever move closer, I'll absolutely be seeing them again! read more

This Review is for my grandmother who was suppose to see Dr.Kerman. I had got off work early to take my grandmother to an 8am appointment for Cataract Surgery that was only suppose to take 15. They told us that they were going to squeeze her in between some of the other appointments because it was a quick procedure. Long story short we get there and we keep having to wait. They dialate her(my grandma's) eyes with eye drops and about 30mins or so they tell us 30 more mins and they then come out another 30mins and tells us the samething. Then they come put more eye drops in her eye and tell us its going to take 30 more minutes. In the mean time we see the doctor come out and talk to more patients and take them to the back and then later one of the nurses knows one of the patients and you can guess what happens next. yep! they get seen before my grandma, this was the straw that broke my back since we had been waiting for nearly 2hours! It saddens me to say this, but seems as if "The Other Patients" got priority because their procedures were worth more and the doctors office would get more money out of them versus the procedure my grandma was having. Therefore it was ok to just stick us to the side because they care more about the business/money per procedure vs patient care. read more

I have gone to Castro Valley Eye Center for several years and have had good care there. I just had both cataracts removed and replaced with intraocular lenses. I am so happy with these surgeries. Dr. Albracht did a wonderful job, and I am seeing better than I have in years. I will be getting a check-up with Dr. Lee soon to see what help I might need with glasses, but I chose monovision, so that I see far in one eye and closer in the other, and this is working just wonderfully. I will be needing reading specs, and night vision glasses to drive, but hopefully, for general use, I will be fine. Since I work at my computer a lot, play piano and organ, and paint, I needed to be able to see clearly and chose that focal point rather than close-up for reading. It's working just great. I can certainly recommend Dr. Albracht and the great staff at C.V. Eye Center to anyone needing cataracts removed. Also, Dr. Albracht helped me with glaucoma in one eye a year ago, so I have a lot of surgery experience on which to report, and each has been successful. I was thoroughly disappointed here. I came at 8:45 for a 9 a.m. appointment for a diabetic vision check. I wasn't out of there until almost 11 a.m. as they were ridiculously over booked. The waiting room had a dozen people waiting throughout the morning. That was bad enough. It got worse when the office manager had a loud and heated discussion with two staff members who seemingly wanted the same vacation time off. All within about 10 feet of the open desk/waiting room. It was very uncomfortable. And then the final straw was when the insurance/billing manager had a very angry phone call with a patient, and then she proceeded into the main desk area to complain to all of the rest of the staff about the man by name (she said his name twice, as staff members were asking who it was on the phone) and then divulged all kinds of privileged information about him, including his medical conditions and his insurance coverage -- all while the dozen patients in the waiting room heard every word. The unprofessionalism was appalling. I will never be back. But I did bump my review up to 2 stars as the actual eye doctor was terrific --when I finally got to see him. So sad the rest of the staff is so horrible. read more
