I was referred to Carlsbad Coastal by a friend and was glad i went. The wait was about 1/2 hour, but once i got into the exam room, everything went quickly. It turns out it wasn't a splinter but a deep thorn about 1/4" in length. There is no way i would have been able to get this thing out on my own. The procedure took about 1/2 hour once he started to numb the toe til the pesky thorn came out, but, no more pain! I highly recommend Carlsbad Coastal and their friendly staff and skilled doctor.

Abaigail placed me on a brief hold, then she said she will ask Dr. Li if she has sent over my 2 medication orders to my local pharmacy to pick up today. Then Abagail told me that Dr. Li has just sent over her orders for my medications and I should call my Walmart Pharmacy to ask when these two medications will be ready for me to pick up sometime today. I did call yesterday and this pharmacist Wen said these 2 medications will have to be special ordered from their supplier and they should be ready for me to pick up later this afternoon. After I called this Tri-City Primary Care Office 3 times I was able to get my medication order resolved from Dr. Xiang Li.

First it took quite a while to get the appointment and the office was hard to reach. On both my visits, I waited over an hour to be seen even though I was there at my scheduled time. On my first visit I was told I would get 2 prescriptions for nsaids. I had to call multiple times to get it sent to my pharmacy and it took more than a week. On my second visit, I heard them go into the room with a patient who had arrived well after me even though I had waited over an hour. To be fair, when I stepped out of the room and mentioned that I was first, the Dr did finally see me first. I also needed an mri and it took quite a while to get one and it was by sharp Mary birch which is really inconveniently far from Oceanside. On that second visit, the Dr went over the results and offered a shot to my shoulder or a referral to an orthopedic Dr. I chose the orthopedic referral and after that he was very dismissive. I waited a few weeks and never received a referral. When I called back, they told me I just needed to pick a Dr and make an appointment. That is not how my insurance works, so I called my insurance and had them call the office to tell them how it works. I still never received a referral and now have to go to my primary care Dr to get that referral. I'm not sure if all of their offices are this disorganized and uninformed or if it's just this one, but I wouldn't go back. There were so many patients in so much more pain than me that had to wait like I did, their suffering was hard to see.

When I finally did get through to someone, they were rude over the phone and told me I couldn't reschedule and would have to cancel my appointment instead. I understand this is the VA, and I know people can have difficult days, but patients are often struggling too. A little understanding and professionalism can go a long way. Customer service and compassion toward veterans definitely need improvement.

I don't know what it is about Kaiser but good luck trying to get any pain meds, anti inflammatories OR anxiety meds out of this company. I asked my doc for some Xanax which I only take for emergencies and he gave me 3 pills of Aadvin instead and never would refill my script. To me, this is absolutely ridiculous, I am not some junkie, I'm a 50 year old man who suffers with this crap. I quit that doctor as I didn't like his bed side manner anyway and choose another doc. "Never got the anxiety meds I needed, but thank GOD for street pharmacists. Fast forward to a new doc. I went in for a severe neck pain, once again, 0 help from the docs for any pain medication. They have me taking OTC stuff that's not really helping. "Again, thank God for my street pharmacists". The thing that sucks is, I pay 1000's of dollars for insurance and still can't get the meds I need. I miss my old private doc practice, where I could tell my doc what works for me and he would prescribe it it he agreed, not this Red tape corporate BS where you pay premiums and get the crap you need. And when Dr Raya came in, she took the time to talk to me. Since this is my first visit with her. She explained every step what is she about to do. I haven't had any one do that in such a long time! The quality care is beyond excellent on what I usually get. It's amazing how I was treated before and how I'm being treated now. Even the front office ladies are alert and ready and with a welcoming smile. I'm so happy we switched to Scripps Medical Center!! They actually care about you!!
