In a nutshell, Carmine is dishonest. He charged me $800 to install a new floater for the boiler when all he did was clean the old one. In fairness, once he was caught, Camine refunded the money. Here are the details. I have a rental unit in Brooklyn, and this winter the tenants said the heating system was noisy and a radiator was leaking. I don't live on site and trusted Carmine as I had worked with him previously. He performed annual maintenance on the furnace; had installed a monitoring system for it; and had been helpful when the chimney collapsed. So when he said the furnace needed a new floater, I didn't think twice about it. But the problem recurred. He made a service call, and the heating system worked properly for a while. Then it happened again--surprising for a new unit. I asked Carmine who manufactured it, where he bought it, was it under warranty, etc. He couldn't recall, didn't have the receipt, uses lots of vendors, etc etc. Finally said it might be defective and that's he would "install" another brand new one. Because I don't live on site, people who work on the rental take photos and email them to me, so I can see what was done. One such vendor, who had worked on the unit, had taken photos of the floater. Turns out the "brand new "floater was the original one that came with the furnace. Same label, same part #, same date. So disappointing. read more

This was couple of days before Thanksgiving. He was able to secure the boiler purchase, had it installed, and removed my old boiler a day before the holidays. I've used Carmine for a few years now to do my yearly inspection of my boiler. However, yesterday was when he really came to the rescue for me and my family. We woke up to a leaking water heater that was leaking into the boiler room in our basement. We were beyond stressed when I called him but he walked me through everything. He even looked up to see if my water heater was still under warranty which I didn't even think of because it was there when we bought the house. Thankfully, it was under warranty! He gave me the name of a distributor that was able to get us the water heater the same day and Carmine installed it shortly after. Woke up to chaos and by the time we went to bed all was normal again. Carmine made this stressful situation into something manageable. I was happy to have him guiding me through everything. Definitely will continue using him for my boiler and heating needs. Also, just as an extra, our boiler was clearly not taken care of when we first moved in and was very dirty and clanged a lot. Great service!! This is the second time we have used Primary Plumbing. This time we had Carmine install an Ecobee 4 thermostat. He was on time and had all parts needed to rewire the boiler for the Ecobee. He insured the thermostat was working correctly and instructed me how to change the settings and install the remote sensor. The boiler in my home was over 40 years old and should have been replaced years ago. I pushed off replacing it as it was still working. However, with increase heating costs I wanted to replace the boiler with something that was more efficient. I called three plumbers for estimates and I went with Carmine and not the lowest bidder. Carmine was able to explain the entire installation process, any National Grid rebates that were available, and most importantly explain that the unit was not up to safety standards and with a young family it was even more important for me to change the boiler. Carmine is the man you want for your gas boiler. My townhouse on Ave D is old and has a steam boiler for heating. According to Carmine, it was made in the 60s or 70s but has a good core. Even though it was a small job this time, I can definitely tell that he really knows his stuff. Before Carmine, I used another plumber who has 4.5 stars on yelp. Carmine has arrived at my address exact at the scheduled time. I had the problem with radiators on all floors of my house. Some of them worked, some of them did not. Week before I had plumbers from City Build It Back program who replaced my boiler. They concluded that the valves on my radiators are broken and it may cost me $1000-$1500. Carmine explained me all possible reasons of my problem (besides the valves) and started to check the system from the "less expensive" options. I chose Primary Plumbing because of his great reviews, well he now has another one. I called Mr. Carmine and he asked me questions and for pictures of my furnace. He came the next day and cheked out my furnace and the number of radiators I had.I decided after his analysis that I needed a new furnace.He explained what the work entailed and gave me a detailed contract of the cost for the whole job. He started work the Oct. 6th and finished on the 7th,2020. In a day and a half, he dismantled and removed my large old furnace, collected and installed my new one,and cleaned up everything by himself. I never actually got to try them. My boiler was leaking and I needed someone ASAP. When I called this place, someone picked up and said "hello" and I asked if this was "Primary Plumbing" and got hung up on. I called again and it went straight to voice mail saying "this is primary plumbing, blah blah blah, please leave a message." So I know I didn't call the wrong number. Perhaps they blocked my number? I had work done by a third party National Grid has a contract with and they came in the morning and they turned off my gas but when they were done they turned the gas back on but could not turn on my boiler. They said they it wasn't their responsibility even they tried several different ways to turn it back on. I called Carmine in a panic at 2pm as it was going to drop 20F overnight and with a newborn I was worried.
