Recently, I received a call from my Mother that Daddy was in hospital. I flew in immediately, last minute. Mom was at the hospital, so could not leave to come and get me, so I tried to get an Enterprise, but the Enterprise folks were booked up at the airport, so I called for an Uber ride from the airport. That was a disaster, but that's another story. At any rate, after joining my Mother in the hospital, we returned to their home in Palm Valley. With more family arriving, it was obvious we needed extra transport. I contacted the Enterprise location at 7800 W Expressway 83. I spoke with the Assistant Manager there, Laura Cavada. Obviously, I was very distraught, as my father was in bad shape. She was so very kind to me, and knowing that I had other family members arriving that needed to be fetched, she upgraded me to the next level of vehicle, that allowed me to fetch more family members from the airport. I went into their offices, and met her in person, as well as her assistant Kayla Ramon. Both were so kind to me, even emotionally, that I felt like I had to mention them for their empathy to me in a tough situation. That can be rare these days, as we live in a computerized World. The car we received was also in fairly good shape (especially given the evidence in the car of what their past drivers must've been doing while driving, i.e. spilling coffee on the car ceiling while driving). I have two main issues that are not the fault of the staff at this specific location, but, more so, with AVIS as a company. I wish I would've been told more explicitly in advance about the $250 holding fee required during the rental that HAD TO BE MADE ON THE SAME CREDIT CARD used to book the rental originally. While we were fine, it is possible that this is a potential barrier for customers. The hours also could be better - there are few car rental places in the RGV/McAllen area that are open past 9/10 PM which seems like a missed opportunity. We arrived after midnight when all the rental car businesses were closed. As a result, I had to come back the next day to pick up our rental car during AVIS' business hours.

The very courteous rental walked over to Avis for me and confirmed there was an Avis agent there. I immediately hung up and called again for the next hour every few minutes and they still didn't pick up the phone. This is unacceptable! I am a member of their rewards program as well. But will NEVER rent from AVIS again. Pick up the phone! It's one of your responsibilities especially if you aren't busy as the Enterprise agent confirmed. Be very wary of renting from this location.

They double charged me when I picked up the car, charging me for the full pay-later reservation. When I provided the credit card statement showing the pay-now charge, the pay-now reservation confirmation, and the pay-later reservation cancellation, they claimed they had no record of the reservation (despite me providing it) and charged me for the difference, saying the difference was just "taxes and fees." Even with "no record" of the pay later reservation, they knew exactly what the difference was. They also overcharged me on a rental the week prior and tried to on the week after, but I caught it before it was too late. Do not rent with Hertz, Thrifty, or Dollar at MFE (but probably everywhere). They clearly engage in fraud and just hope they're not caught by the customer.
