Anyway, I needed to have a tree removed that was nearly completely dead. The Trees on my property in East Quogue haven't been attended to for at least 30 years. I called TLC having seen their equipment at another location and scheduled for Paul to come and have a look. There were about 20 trees on the property at the time. Paul and I took a walk around the property and he discussed with me the things that he felt would be good to do. He was thorough and totally non pressure. It was clear that if I just wanted the one tree down that was fine, but as I thought about it I began to picture how much better my property would look with a high canopy of trees rather than the low canopy that I currently had which was not especially attractive and also had the effect of making my house rather dark. In addition it would benefit the health of my trees. I scheduled for TLC to remove three trees which were in very poor shape and to trim up all the remaining trees. The job was done on time as promised in 3 visits. The TLC crew knows what they are doing! They were careful to trim the trees in the proper fashion, in fact they were pretty incredible to see at work...have a look at the attached picture! I enthusiastically recommend TLC. Paul and his crew were great to deal with. The price was reasonable. Our tree canopy looks great now. They did a neat job on time as promised. TLC is a great resource for tree and related services.

I had a very unusual experience with Basic Landscaping. I hired them to plant trees and shrubs on…read moremy property and signed a contract for $53K. When they were done, they charged me additional $2300 for planting extra plants, which was never discussed with me before it was allegedly done. Nevertheless, I paid additional money without saying anything. At the end Basic asked me if I wanted to sign a maintenance contract. I declined because it was very expensive considering the amount of work being proposed, required inclusion of lawn maintenance (I do that myself), and also had language regarding dumping yard waste on my property. The biggest issue I had with Basic was that they planted the wrong trees and refused to replace them. The centerpiece of my landscape design were three trees with bright yellow and red leaves. Basic planted a green leaf variety of the same tree, completely ruining my landscape design intent. When I complained about this, during the warranty period, Basic initially tried blaming me since I did not sign a maintenance contract, probably assuming I was too ignorant to figure out what happened. When that argument did not fly, they tried blaming the plant material supplier, which again had nothing to do with a $53K planting contract I had with Basic. Finaly, after many months of stalling, they said that I complained too late. I understand that sometimes mistakes happen, however I found it unusual that a contractor who made a mistake would aggressively attack me, in writing, and refuse to do anything to correct a problem. Additional to the problems described above, another Basic proposal, to address the lawn flooding issue, had a ridiculous solution - move the water from one end of the lawn to another, and the proposed price was incredibly high considering it involved two guys with shovels for a day.

All signs were positive - the owner Andy is a friendly, responsive, straight shooter who is a pleasure to deal with and his crew is a polite hard working bunch. They started the job a few days after we met and did quality work. On our driveway. But the next day, I noticed a huge 10x10 area at the end of our driveway of spilled concrete/mortar on the street. Our road had recently been repaved so it was a big eyesore and really took away from the work done. Sloppy stuff. Andy was good about addressing the issue, and even came out to power wash it. But it had dried and was too late. So as you can see from the photo, this company's haste and sloppiness left a lasting negative on an otherwise solid job. They had also repaved a neighbors driveway at the same time and left her (elderly woman) with a complete mess at the end of her new driveway as well. Writing this so others who choose Classic proceed w caution and make a point to tell Andy that at the end of the job to not have his crew spill concrete/mortar on the street and if they do CLEAN UP after yourself. The street is an extension of the driveway. It left a negative on a positive and now when people come over they compliment the new driveway but then ask us what happened on the street. Shame.
