I'll start by saying we're not from here. We're spoiled for choice where we're from. Also, we're a gay couple, but not overtly. We didn't know what to expect, especially seeing a few right-leaning shirts at the tables around us. Noticing this place while on a road trip we wanted to try it out. Breakfast was priced at $10.99 on the website. We got two plus one coffee and with tip the bill was about $35. Didn't add up, but ok. I noticed a few comments here about the staff being rude. We didn't experience that. From the cashier to the people serving drinks and picking up plates, they were nice and helpful. The food was ok, not great, but good for the price paid. I mean, from the mountains of food people were putting on their plates I'm a little confused how they make a profit. As a vegetarian and diabetic I had limited choice. If you are a meat eater, about every breakfast meat you can imagine they had, even something called scrapple, which is a regional thing I guess. There was an omelette station too. There was a dessert bar also. My husband -who has a sweet tooth- got a blueberry pie type dessert and could barely eat it because it was too sweet. As a diabetic it was good to see they had sugar free syrup and one sugar free dessert. On the buffet I could only have the eggs, mushrooms and a few house breakfast potatoes- which were quite good. We got there a little after 8:30 a.m. and it wasn't super busy. There was no waiting in line. When we left 45 minutes later, there was a huge line. Overall happy we tried it out. If we lived here we may go back to try out lunch or dinner. This isn't gourmet food, and for the price paid you wouldn't expect it. If you go, enjoy it for what it is. read more

I've been to Prime Sirloin twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times I found the food good. Yes it's a buffet but it's a large buffet with a lot of different selections. Did I like everything on the buffet, no, but I did find plenty that I did like. They have a hot bar, a salad bar, a specialty bar, and a bakery bar. Nothing there was terrible, nothing was inedible, as some reviews have hinted. Some I liked better than others and In fact I'd go as far to say it's probably one of the better buffets in the area. For all you can eat, the price was very reasonable. If you can't find enough good food that you like to eat here, you are way too uppity to be eating at a buffet. I went on Thanksgiving Day '24 when very few, if any, other places around there were open. I called in advance to learn they were doing breakfast first then at about 11:00am dinner would begin until 4:00pm. As it turned out, there were many many others there at about 1:30pm; actually more than I imagined, so we got in line; had to be at least 100 people ahead of us. But it moved fairly quick & we got to the cash registers in about 20 minutes & waited about another 10 mins for a table to open. To their credit, they must have had all-hands-on-deck. The cashier quickly checked us out & a hostess sat us when a clean table become open when we made it to the front of the line. A waitress appeared soon after for our beverage orders. Given how many folks were there, I wasn't expecting miracles for the food, but it was generally fine. The turkey was not carved to order, but pre-cut in the kitchen and placed in a steam table. Given the crowd, that made the most sense. There were also the regular side dishes like stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce etc. There were also some other cooked vegetables and other main courses besides turkey. They even had out the salad items, which are not typical on Thanksgiving. And there were a nice selection of desserts, which I appreciated as a non-pumpkin pie eater; I had some soft ice cream from the machine with strawberry topping. I love their baked chicken. I also like their ham when they have it. The waitresses works very hard, make sure you give them a nice tip. Too many people go in there and don't give a tip. We like to call it the Pig Pen. Go there sometime and you will understand why. It is very clean. read more

Had a large selection of average food. Some of it looked dry and cold. Which is interesting as we were there fairly early. The baked chicken was really good. It did have lots of patrons. Overall the food was ok reminded me of an old Pondarosa, my biggest complaints was some of the food was cold, some employees did not seem to be happy to have a job and it was a pain to get someone to cook the steaks. Our server did do a great job kudos to her. read more

We were in the area for my other half's birthday and we decided to try this place out. It was very disappointing. The food quality in my opinion might be maybe 1 notch above a truck stop buffet, and those for the most part are terrible. The fried chicken was horribly dried out. The sliced beef at the carving station was either really moist, really dry or a mix of both. Several of the meat offerings were dried out and chewy. I really wanted to eat some peel and eat shrimp but the water they were floating is was a total turn off. This place could have done better and had fresh green beans instead of the obvious canned. Many of the offerings on the buffet were not visually appealing at all. Hardly anything on the buffet was marked what it was. Of course, most of it is obvious what it is, but at the wings tray, all the have written is "wings". Ok, are they hot, mild, BBQ, dog crap flavored, ect????? The stuff that is fried, ok, what the hell is it? Nothing was marked at the "Smokehouse" so I tried nothing there. I don't like spicy food. I ate very little and I couldn't bring myself to try dessert. The girl working the cash register was less than friendly but the waitress did a good job. My old man got the runs and was forced to crap in the bushes on the side of the road during the hour and a half ride home in the middle of nowhere. I saw on another review that they add a 15% gratuity (you pay before you are seated). My old man threw the receipt away so I could not confirm this, but I did remember how much it was. I did the math and it was more than what we should have paid. I'm not pissed that we left extra money for the waitress, but I am pissed that they failed to mention this. This was the worst food I've ever eaten at a restaurant. I don't understand how they can have any 4 or 5 star reviews. I'm not a picky eater in any form and I couldn't bring myself to eat a full meal here. Everything was gross, dried out, off tasting, or unrecognizable. It was also hot and smelly inside. Buffet. Good god y'all. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again! That's not entirely true when you have a tired and hungry kid that just finished hours of running around at the Slinky Action Zone next door. In those rare moments, you want to be able to walk into a restaurant, and put a plate of steam-table mac-n-cheese in front of the kid, stat. Still, that does not explain the damage I do to myself when confronted with large buffets. But for some reason at Prime, I found myself feeling oddly more full and bloated than I should have been given the quantity of food I consumed. And then later that night, I had nightmares. Quality has went downhill. You start with decent food, then let it sit and become nasty. Fried chicken was like munching on a rock.

We have been eating at this buffet place on and off for about the last 15 years except for their temporary shutdown during covid mess. we go there at least a couple of times a month, but the only reason we ever go to this place is to taste some of their fried cat fish and haddock fish which they only have on select days, as their menu is different for different days of the week. usually their fish is good and enjoyable but quite often the cooks make it very salty, as if the cook has no sense of proportion (which is beyond the five senses and the sixth.) as to how much salt to put in the fish. and some times the fried fish is over cooked and some times its under cooked to the point that fish is not even flaky enough to be considered fully cooked. second thing i hope to eat is their roast beef, but its kind of like a game of chance, that is if their cook is in a good mood and he or she has done a proper job to cook the roast beef, otherwise at times its extra rare with obvious visual oozing of reddish juice or in other words raw blood. the carving station usually has pre sliced pieces of roast beef on the cutting board which is for the convenience of their paying guests who can serve themselves as much as they like, a sign of good old country American hospitality. however many people are disappointed to find the extra rare, and i have witnessed many people just walk away without taking any of the roast beef, on our visit last week we were there for about one hour, we are very slow eaters and we eat very little but we enjoy being social. during that hour it was the same pile of extra rare sliced beef that was sitting on the cutting board of the carving station. and it was still sitting there when we were leaving. we made four trips to the roast beef carving station in hopes of finding some beef that was not drenched with blood, but no luck there. they kept bring small chunks of roast beef from the kitchen and sliced the meat which was a bit better looking than extra rare which was acceptable to some people, they took what they liked but the bloody mess was still sitting there unwanted. the third thing that we hope to try is their country fried steak which is hamburger patties in batter deep fried. sadly some times the taste of hamburger is on the borderline of being stale tasting as if the meat had been sitting for too long in low refrigeration, but some times its the best tasting country fried steak, also some times it is extremely salty. we do not have sweet tooth so we don't care for deserts, i try their coleslaw and salads. which are always very good. but for the main reason of going there is usually a disappointment this is why i could only rate them at 2 out of 5, the price is not bad only about $16.00 and some change for one person including drinks. and we always generously give good tips to our waiters. the problem is that in this area there are no other big chain buffet restaurants like, golden coral etc. where we can have national standard buffet dining experience. otherwise this local buffet is a nice clean friendly place. just that their prep and cooking staff need to have more training to learn the standards set by the USDA. in restaurant business handling of food and sanitation is the most important thing , that is temperature , temperature , temperature. read more

When you're alone in the evening and you don't feel like going out, so instead you curl up on the couch and turn on the Sci-Fi or Chiller channel, to be greeted by Child's Play 9, or Leprechauns 4: In the Hood, or Piranha 3D? You know they're awful, certainly not good for you, and not even that entertaining, but there's some appeal. Prime Sirloin is that, but for food. This is the absolute worst American food you will find anywhere on the continent. And the food - there is certainly a lot of it! It all tastes the same. Imagine biting into your Porterhouse (strictly hypothetically, I'm a vegetarian!) and discovering textured vegetable protein where you had anticipated organic, grass-fed beef. And it's covered in high fructose corn syrup. And of course, the classy clientele - one would be remiss not to mention them. Here you will find large central Pennsylvanian families who think the Olive Garden is high class cuisine and can only afford to eat there two nights a year. Excellent food for the price! I was there for Saturday lunch ... on weekends they have the dinner buffet over the noon hour. The steaks were very good ... much much better than the chain steak buffet places that we all know about ... they had a good selection of "medium" done steaks. I also had the ribs ... they were very tender and easily pulled off of the bone ... the BBQ sauce was very tasty too! The fried chicken was perfect! For dessert, I some of their sticky buns ... excellent! And I also had a little bit of vanilla ice cream ... they have peanut butter topping that you can put on ... and you can never go wrong with peanut butter! I don't make it to the Altoona area very often, but the next time I do, I will definitely go to the Prime Sirloin Buffet again! read more

By far the BEST buffet you'll ever find! The food is great! The prices are reasonable! The service is friendly and efficient! The buffet is always full and clean and the hot food is hot and the cold food is cold. I have never had anything here I didn't like. I especially love the mac and cheese. Some other can't miss items are the pork and sauerkraut, roast turkey, and chocolate chip cookies. If you need some great homey comfort food, this is the best place around! read more

When we came in we didn't really have high expectations since it was our first time being here. In the end, we don't think we'll be back anytime soon. Most meats, like the pulled pork was cold and the desserts area was disappointing. The puddings were mixed in with the jello and the jello we got for my little sister looked more like a melted blob of slushy. The cinnamon roll that I had grabbed, was so hard I think it was left out there at noon, we got there at 7:00pm. The Mac n cheese we also got for the kids seemed more noodle than cheese, it seemed as though there was absolutely no ounce of cheese on it, and it was so dry. The service wasn't that great either, we sat for almost 15 minutes waiting for a refill on drinks while the servers were sitting by the soda machine talking the entire time. They only came over and began checking on us, and refilling our drinks when my uncle complained about how long we were waiting for service. I really like this place. Two days ago while I was in Altoona, I stopped in Prime Sirloin. I love their food. I got their catfish, liver and onions, fried chicken, mac n cheese. All COLD. I was very disappointed. I got a piece of peach pie. It was so sweet, I couldn't eat it. My family and I stopped here on our way out of town after the (wonderful) Sci-Fi Valley Con. I don't know what I was expecting from a small buffet in central PA but it was awful. Vegetables were soggy and likely canned/frozen, meat was dry and everything was over-salted and drowning in butter or whatever grease they use. The pulled pork smelled odd. We stayed for twenty minutes before deciding to just leave. We didn't bother asking for our money back, we just hit the road. Seems to be popular with the "MURICA! crowd, though. The only positive thing I can say, being a saurkraut fan, is that they usually have saurkraut on their buffet (granted it is sometimes so dried out that even I don't care for it). First thing is the price. $8 for an adult lunch isn't a bad price for what you get. The food is hot, but not all of the buffet items were fresh. The fried chicken seemed a bit old. Havent been here in awhile and with all the radio ads being played right now in altoona.... I gave it another shot.. Went on thursday... BBQ day(didnt know that till I got there)... Wasnt too impressed with the overall experience... Beans were good, garlic wings yummy( i grabbed the ones cooked to good and crispy) mac and cheese was good. That is about all i would go back for on the buffet. Paid a total of about 63.00 bucks for 4 adults and 1child and then the tip. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet here much better on the weekend. Its advertised as made fresh(not heat and serve) but i didnt think too many items tasted "like mom makes". If im gonna spend around 70 dollars or so ill go to another place next time read more
