This, coupled with the fast and friendly service and generous proportions for cost, make Primo Deli a unique destination in New Milford. While many customers take items to go, a small seating area that was popularly inhabited by regular customers pre-COVID is available. Alternatively, park benches in the New Milford green is just a block away. Like Suzanna B., I was introduced to Primo by my son -- one of the regulars. It appears Primo is a magnet for driving-age boys -- speaks to their value and proportions! Catering is also available for pick up -- I know because a collective high school graduation party for my son, his friends, and our families was catered by Primo in tribute to their regular weekend gatherings there. Here you can find breakfast and lunch sandwiches, such as savory egg and bacon, crisp Cubano, and soft burritos, as well as hot breakfast, lunch, and dinner plates. Try fried plantains, beef Empanada, oxtail in gravy, and one of several Mofongo -- a Puerto Rican dish of mashed green plantains mixed with pork or seafood. Although I miss the original experience, it seems the English-only audience has discovered Primo and to accommodate, the availability of popular American dishes, such as hamburger, and an English-only menu are broadcasted at the deli entrance for the customers who prefer to dine within their established repertoire. Narrow interior but goes far back, small space but they made the most of the space. This is probably exactly what you expect from the outside. There's a counter you stand at with a hot bar and a cold bar and you order there - then pay at the register where there is an assortment of desserts. Very friendly English speaking service. Meat that's well seasoned and falls off the bone. Flavorful rice and beans. My husband finished his - I'm gonna get two meals out of mine. They have a a couple coolers full of drinks. Every once in a while I like to go native and go Latin. If it's actually Spanish, I apologize -- I truthfully don't know! This place came highly recommended! Let me say that I have never seen rolls as large as the one's they use -- absolutely HUGE! Just gigantic torpedo rolls! Now I only ever have breakfast or lunch here on occasion but I watch and see what these ladies are doing back there. Everything is being made fresh on the premises! Everything! Sometimes the smells are overwhelming in there with all of the cooking, different flavors and meats cooking! Food and service are great. Big portions, delicious food, great customer service, however, their delivery system is terrible. I called a burrito for delivery and not only did they drop my order off at the wrong house over an hour late, but when I called and had them deliver it again, their delivery driver WALKED INTO my house when I specifically gave directions to leave the order OUTSIDE of my door. I called the restaurant and thankfully I was given a refund. I have ordered from this place for many years now but this experience really made me re think. It's not always hot, and after being a regular for a while there was a few occasions where the food upset our stomachs so we stopped going. Just ask for a small or large plate to go, and then point at which rice, meats, and sides you want them to fill it to the brim with. It might sound weird, but try the Ox Tail! It's fatty in the BEST way, and the broth is so sustaining and good for you. And, it's the only place to get cooked plantains in town, my favorite food. I eat here more often than not, especially when I'm starving and just can't wait. So I'll have beans, rice and plantains as they are on the hot bar and I can grab it immediately. Of course I don't understand all those meat options but people of all races and colors order them non stop. The burritos look really good and huge. I love getting a plate with either the white or yellow rice, the pinto beans, and then either the chicken on the bone or the beef. My friend got the oxtail last time and it looked amazing so I may be trying that too. You also can get chipotle mayo all over errthang which health wise is probably a huge mistake, but taste wise is the best. There's not a lot in the way of seating, but it's a deli, so that's not really a cause for complaint for me. Service is swift and friendly. So have driven by this countless of times ans really paid no mind to it because I am embarrassed to say, I was judging a book by its cover! My son would speak about this Primo ans mention that it made the best burrito and I never associated the 2. One day on my NM ventures, I drive by here with the stud and I mentioned that our son raves about the sandwiches so being that we had the munchies and it was dinner time, we went...Latin American cuisine that looks all great and ridiculously priced! Opted for the burrito....and I don't remember if the beef one or chicken or steak or pork one was my first one but after many trips now, I have tried them all and can't tell you my favorite but I can tell you that I will never go to Moes or Chipotle again! Overstuffed with freshness and the lie proteins are incredible flavorful and moist! Their house sauce is incredible and the guacamole is included in the price of $6.50! Yes, I am proud to say I'm a cheap date! So good. They also offer hot plates of stewed ox tails which sells out quickly, stewed chicken, plantanas and a meca of other Latino dishes. I went into this place after trying to find a spot to park nearby. The color of my skin must have been to light, because they didn't ask for my order or anything. When I finally made eye contact with the girl behind the serving area, she said nothing. Some other kid on a phone stepped in front of me and she immediately took his order. I left quickly. Yelp did not steer me wrong with the Primo Deli. Never having visited New Milford before, I was tempted to check out the DinerLuxe, because it looks really cool, but instead decided to trust my yelp gut instead. It was a good call. Primo Deli has your traditional deli fare (breakfasts and sandwiches), but also an excellent selection of Latino groceries and delicacies. I sampled both a pork plate and the Reuben and both were wonderful. The plate is an amazing deal, your choice of protein, beans, and rice, all in heaping quantities for $8.99. I had enough for two days of lunch and enjoyed the rich flavors and textures just as much the second day. I'm ranking Primo 4 out of 5 stars not because the food was anything less than superb, but because I was initially confused as to how the food procurement process works. It's similar to a cafeteria style, where you'll go up to order what you want. If it's a plate, they can dish you up right away, but other things are made to order. Then, when it's ready, they'll either bring it out to you or go and pick it up. Finally, when you're all done, just head to the register and pay. The upside of providing your own table service is that you can give yourself a gratuity and get ice cream afterwards. read more

It's a great place to go for lunch, whether you want authentic Hispanic food without the higher price tag of the Mexican restaurants on Railroad Street, or just a quick sandwich while waiting for your clothes to dry next door (it is a deli, after all). Knowing we would need to stop for lunch in New Milford I did a little research and Yelp led me to Primo. There is a small lot in front of the deli. You walk in and see the sandwich menu. I checked out the menu and thought I'd want a sandwich. Perhaps a chicken cutlet. I remembered the Yelp reviews mentioning Hispanic food so we went around to the side counter. And a whole hot bar of Hispanic food ready to be served. I ordered rice and beans. Simple but flavorful. I am not by any means a connoisseur of Hispanic food but it was delicious! My son had pulled pork with his rice and ate the entire plate of food. Rather reasonably priced with generous portions -$15 and change for the two plates and two beverages. As mentioned in my tip. You order and receive your food. Help yourself to the beverage cooler. Enjoy your meal. Then you go and pay. I was a bit confused and was given little direction. I picked up sandwiches from here and they were phenomenal! Fresh avacado and turkey done perfectly with all the toppings. The chicken soup is the best I've ever tasted. The reason I mention these items is because I've had their Spanish food and its excellent!!!! But never thought to go here for deli items.... Definitely the best around! Everything I've eaten here has been the best in its category I've ever had, and I grew up around this food. Interesting selection of groceries--not enough to do a week's haul, but you can find some cool specialty products. Super nice people, too.
