After two lovely evenings at Macedonia Brook State Park, we awoke to hoots, hollers, and a black bear who was just across the brook, helping to clean up food at neighbor's campsite. We banged pots and pans to scare him off, but decided not to fix our own breakfast. Off to the Villager Restaurant in Kent, where we had a fantastic breakfast on the patio. Has done a wonderful job morphing with the times keeping offerings on point. You can order vegan items quite easily as well as the typical diner type offerings. For breakfast, you can purchase real maple syrup, which is 5 stars in my book if that's not the standard offering at an establishment. Pancakes are fluffy and wonderful. BUT, the tiny maple syrup advertised for $1.99, which is actually $2.00 on the bill, ONLY is enough for the short stack. If you order the large stack and want enough syrup, you will be charged another $2.00. Never tried their Mexican offerings, which do look excellent and will go on the to try list. A classic "go to" for casual dining and Mexican food is their specialty. I am local and I love everything about the Villager.

The waiter and as a identified her self boss was extremely rude. Despite asking for the check, he came over three times and kept asking--almost as if saying "just leave already"--whether we had requested the bill. When we mentioned we'd like to have coffee, he responded with an attitude that implied, "Don't sit outside if you're going to have coffee." Such a discriminatory and disrespectful attitude does not suit this town. I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant. I sincerely hope that in the future, a restaurant that truly reflects the kindness and quality the people of this town deserve will open here. read more

We had a party of eleven and stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday. We had called ahead to let them know that a large party was coming in. They had our table set up and were ready for us. I completely underestimated the server and the kitchen. I thought there was no way the kitchen was going to be able to get our food out correctly, timely and have it taste good. I also thought the server was not going to keep up with our thirsty and hungry group. I was wrong. The server was on top of things--yes, we kept her running but she never complained, was always friendly and smiling and made sure our drinks were always topped off and we had food in front of us. The air is permitted with the smell of grease from their fryer, which is not properly ventilated. Service: Adequate. Waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Food came out fairly quickly. Food: Average at best. I ordered a Bacon, avocado, lettuce and bacon on rye and my husband ordered an egg salad croissant. We both had a cup of coffee and the bill was $24.38. Ate here this morning after a shitty Airbnb experience and my breakfast here immediately lifted my spirits. I was in Kent for the Gilmore Girls Fan Fest today. We had originally planned on eating at JP Gifford, but parking was rough as it was a busy Saturday. There wasn't a line or large crowds as everyone was doing other things. They have traditional breakfast affair and some Mexican inspired dishes too. I went for the open faced egg sandwich with a side of hash browns. My hubby had the French toast. Our food came out super fast which I was grateful for as I was starving! My sandwich was delish and I almost had a slice of pie, but resisted the urge. This place definitely had Luke's Diner vibes, heehee. I was waiting for Ceasar or Luke himself to come out yelling. It had a decent amount of seating, inside and outside. The waitstaff were quick, friendly, and efficient. I imagine this is a good place to get Mexican food as well. Definitely would return if I'm in the area. read more

I don't know-maybe I ordered badly but I was disappointed. I got the Cobb salad and it had cucumbers and guacamole on it. I like guacamole but I didn't like it on a Cobb salad. The menu states it comes with avocado, not guacamole. It didn't taste good with the dressing. Also it had cucumbers which weren't listed in the menu description either, and they forgot my egg. If the kitchen mangles a simple salad that's not good. My partner had a tuna melt, which is usually open faced with cheese melted on top. It came as a sandwich with some kind of cheese melted hard on the bread. He liked it but it wasn't a classic tuna melt, or what he was expecting. I'm all for creative twists on classics but the menu needs to indicate these things so customers can make alterations to their order as needed read more

I've enjoyed the Villager since moving here full time in 2008. A solid breakfast or lunch spot. Very casual, good whether eating solo or meeting a friend for lunch. I always look at the daily specials for lunch, even though their excellent veggie quesadilla is my usual. And on weekends the brunch menu has the kind of extra specials that make it worth going out. I was passing thru historic Kent, CT. with Zvck and Joey Bags on a beautiful Saturday afternoon when we spotted The Villager restaurant. Hungry as always we stopped in and sat at one of the street side tables just outside the front door. Our server promptly had us set up with menus silverware and drinks. She was on point throughout. Zvck went with a burrito salad bowl which was a large serving of a deconstructed burrito over fresh salad with grilled chicken and a southwest dressing. Excellent. Not so health conscious i had the marinated simmered beef burrito. An oversized burrito was stuffed with delicious tender pulled beef (like pot roast meat but shredded) which has a nice tex mex flavor. The burrito is accompanied by refried beans sour cream and rice. A full meal. Joey Bags opted for the Philly cheesesteak-a healthy portion of chopped steak with yellow cheese on a large bulky roll and some very good fries. It didn't last long. A great stop for good food, friendly service and lots of people watching. PS The villager is dog friendly- several dogs lay peacefully at their owners tables while we were there. This is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in. I went in with my wife and two children ages 10 and seven. My 10-year-old was so disgusted with the food she said she couldn't eat it. I ordered a turkey melt sandwich that was filled with thick gooey pieces of pressed turkey. My 10-year-old ordered a turkey club that had the same horrible inedible turkey on it and barely took two bites before she said she couldn't eat anymore. My little one ordered a cheeseburger medium well that came out medium rare. My wife ordered a salad with grilled chicken that she said was tasteless. I don't understand how there could be an average of four stars for this horrible restaurant. 4.5 for sure on this one! My friend and I were exploring the Stars-Hollow-esque towns of CT and fell in love with Kent. The Villager was one of the best parts of our quick visit. It was fairly busy but we were able to get seated right away. The service throughout the meal was incredibly attentive and warm. The food was delicious! Above and beyond classic diner food.
