Visited with family and had a great time! Our server was very friendly and informative. He helped give recommendations and was always quick to check on our table. The food was great! They bring out bread with a balsamic oil dip, we couldn't get enough of it lol! We got calamari and the fried rice balls, both were delicious and easy to share. As for entrees, I had the salmon and my husband got a pasta dish. Everything was fresh and flavorful! Would definitely recommend this spot!

Primo was recommended by locals and is the neighborhood spot. Packed on a weekday, its stand-alone venue and parking lot access and availability is a bonus. As mentioned by others, the drinks come stiff, so bring your thirst! I enjoyed their version of oysters Rockefeller. It came out piping hot and delicious. These morsels came plump! My dinner was delicious but need to mention it was delivered not so hot. The potatoes were luke warm, the crab cake was too, and the steak was at a different temperature. Not exactly what I expect coming right out of the kitchen. Prior to dinner, you're served fresh sourdough bread and a very tasty dipping oil! Be easy on those! Seconds can easily fill you. I hope to return when in the area. I loved the local friendly vibe, and Cat w a s phenomenal host. I recommend, indeed!

Do you have friends who live far away? We do. Jeremy's friend from high school moved to Florida ages ago, got married, had a kid, and we kept on expanding our love for them all. We went to visit them several times, in Florida and when they came back to visit family in Maryland. And then they moved (back) to Pasadena. And we rejoiced. Jeremy and I went to unload the moving truck... well, Jeremy went to do the heavy lifting. I went for moral support and to catch up/gossip with the ladies. Now, everyone should know the proper etiquette when friends help you move is to pay them with money, pizza and beer, or both. Our friends decided on both, which was amazing of them. We decided to order from Primo, which was relatively nearby. Their extensive menu made the process of ordering difficult because EVERYTHING sounded delicious. Truthfully, I don't know exactly everything that was ordered, but I do know that there were many moans of delight and eyes rolling into the back of heads when the flavors hit the tongue. Our one previous Florida resident shouted, "I love Maryland!" as she ate a slice of the Figaro (Prosciutto di Parma, walnuts, and gorgonzola crumbles baked with fig compote then topped with baby arugula and a drizzle of balsamic glaze) pizza. I admit, this was the weirdest pizza I have ever tried, but after reading about it on the menu, we HAD to try it. I mean, when was the last time YOU had WALNUTS on a pizza? And it works. It's a taste sensation. We also tried the Hawaiian (Crispy prosciutto di Parma, diced pineapple, mozzarella, and provolone with your choice of white or red sauce) pizza with white sauce. Our five-year-old diner seemed to like it, telling me that he liked pineapple, and offered me one from his slice. I didn't try this one, but it did look delicious. But, personally, I like jalapenos on my Hawaiian pizza, and I wasn't going to demand that when I was so intrigued by the fig pizza. There was also a pepperoni pizza, which Jeremy LOVED. He's a Primo fan just on the strength of this pizza. Each pizza came with a little container of butter garlic sauce and shredded parmesan. I had buffalo wings, which were great, but let me just say the BLEU CHEESE dipping dressing is FANTASTIC!! Huge pieces of bleu cheese, suggesting this didn't come out of a bottle. WOW. The Fettucini Alfredo (Egg-noodle fettucini tossed in creamy garlic Parmesan alfredo sauce) was met with enthusiasm from someone who is trying not to eat a lot of acidic foods. But the Filet Mignon (Tender hand-cut CAB filet marinated in olive oil, garlic, and rosemary then seared and broiled to temperature) was a huge hit. Pretty much everyone had a taste because it was too good to hog. Such a delight demands to be shared. Jeremy also had a cheesesteak - cheese (provolone) and onions. He enjoyed it but said that the execution could use some work. The roll was good, but he wanted cheese whiz because we're spoiled from so many excursions to Philly. He finished the sandwich, so that goes to tell you that it was fairly decent in spite of his high standards. We wanted to try the cannoli nachos, but unfortunately the restaurant's dessert fridge was broken. I'm not giving up though, cuz doesn't that sound like the best thing ever? It was an incredible meal with incredible people. A celebration of life with some of the best food possible. Would absolutely recommend.

I ate here a few years ago and couldn't get the pear salad out of my head and for good reason. That bite of cheese and pear is delicious! The seafood pasta dish is delicious. The cream sauce is well done and not as heavy as I thought it would be. The pasta is really good with all of the elements. The service was impeccable and the space is cute.

Friday night, I ended up grabbing takeout from Primo. Seems like a pretty popular place and was very lively on a Friday night. The penne vodka with shrimp was GREAT! Loved the penne vodka sauce and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. I just wish that for the price, they would've included more shrimp. The dish came with about 6 shrimp.

Delicious mom and pop style Italian restaurant. The owner and staff were extremely friendly and appreciative of every single party that was there to dine with them. Considering how busy the place was it is definitely a local favorite. To begin they have oil and herbs with a vinaigrette to dip the soft ciabatta bread into. Yum! I had the Penne Primavera. The pasta was al dente and the creamy vodka rosé sauce was the perfect consistency to stick to the pasta. The veggies added the perfect contrast of flavors to the meal.

My chef, I mean husband, was away this weekend so I was left to fend for myself! Fortunately, Primo is right around the corner from me. I totally ordered dinner two nights in a row! I have had Primo a few times in the past and loved it. On Saturday I ordered the Pork Chop Milanese which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. This is definitely one of the best dishes in my opinion. The pork chop is lightly breaded and the sauce on it is amazing! I could eat this meal everyday. I also tried the Brushette Roma appetizer. I will be honest here....I ate alllll of it! The tomatoes were extremely fresh and the whole appetizer was delicious. I assumed it wouldn't keep too well in the fridge (that was my excuse for eating it all in one sitting;) The following night I got the chicken parm, another one of my favorites. I typically order it with a side of pasta but decided to change it up and get the roasted potatoes and asparagus. The chicken was so good and it comes with three pieces of chicken. Both nights I called in my order and picked it up in the restaurant. The ordering process was super easy and the employees were always welcoming and friendly. The orders were both accurate and come with delicious fresh baked bread with oil and balsamic mix. I definitely recommend Primo for lunch or dinner!

I am so excited to have found an Italian restaurant with good wine, pasta, and dessert! Primo exceeded my expectations. The service for a first timer is unbeatable with a free cannoli for dessert! On a Wednesday night the bar was full and 80% of the tables were full. We were still seated immediately with choices. I will definitely be returning to try more items on their menu!

Both times we've eaten here, we've really been taken by the food and drink! Everything we have had, from drinks to dessert have been delicious! Love the atmosphere and the people serving. They seem so happy to be there! Owner/Manager came to ask us how everything was and that's always appreciated because you feel they care. Listen to the specials they have....my husband has had them twice and both have been winners! Loved they had a musician playing last night. Make reservations so to keep from being disappointed....we haven't and didn't know they took them, but if you are coming from out of area, this will solve any problems. Just a great place all the way around!

They served complimentary bread which was phenomenal. You can literally get full off of that. I also ordered the linguine vongole (clam) which was good, but for some reason mine was more sour than another guests' linguine. Maybe a too much lemon? I also tried the fettuccine mediterraneo which was super cheesey and creamy, more on the bland side but asking for red pepper flakes helped. I really enjoyed the fettuccine over the linguine dish. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had. Our waiter was extremely inattentive and confusing from the start. Several people at our table asked questions about a pasta dish that included meatballs and sausage, and none of us could get a straight explanation from him. He kept going around in circles trying to describe the dish, repeatedly mentioning there was a $2 difference depending on how many meatballs or sausage you received, but no one at the table could understand what he was actually explaining. In the end, both my sister and cousin basically gave up and just said, "Okay, whatever we want one meatball and one sausage." We later realized the "sausage" was actually ground sausage in the sauce -- not a sausage link as we had understood. He also repeatedly tried to upsell us on additional menu items we had clearly shown no interest in ordering. Instead of listening to what we actually wanted, it felt like he was more focused on pushing extra items onto the table. To make matters worse, my sister and cousin ordered the exact same dish, yet my sister received three meatballs while my cousin only received one. There was no explanation for the inconsistency. The service throughout the evening was terrible. Our waiter rarely checked on our table and disappeared for long stretches of time. We actually had to stop another employee walking by just to get boxes for our leftovers and a dessert menu. Meanwhile, the table next to us had a waitress who was attentive and constantly checking on them, which made the difference in service even more noticeable. At one point, our waiter mentioned they had a lot of walk-ins that evening. However, we had made reservations in advance for a birthday celebration, so that should not have affected the level of service we received. Even getting the check at the end took an unnecessarily long time after we finally managed to get his attention. Overall, the entire experience was disappointing, disorganized, and frustrating -- especially for what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner.

When I mentioned I didn't really care for the rice balls, they immediately took them back and removed them from our bill--no hesitation. That level of customer care definitely stood out. So: I passionately enjoyed my dinner at Mamma Roma. The reason that this is unusual is because I'm…read morenot big on going out for Italian food much at restaurants - other than on holidays - since I eat so much Italian food at home. I can make an exception for more casual Italian meals at only a handful of Italian restaurants, and Mamma Roma's is now one. Growing up partially Italian, and a mix of other ethnicities, my family cooks Italian better, of course, than at any restaurant. No one made better Italian dinners than my Na-na (grandmother). But Momma Roma's hummus cream rigatoni could definitely keep me coming back for more. No one made better meatballs than my Mom but the meatballs at Mamma Roma's are flavorful enough. No one made better sauce than my Aunt #1 but the sauce on Momma Roma's ravioli was good and so fresh. And no one made better cookies than my Aunt #2, but Momma Roma's cannolis and rum cookies are tasty. There are a lot of Italian restaurants in the area and I've read that Mamma Roma's is one of, if not, the best. I can only say that while my first visit here a decade ago was fine, this visit goes into my memory as "need to get back there, eventually, if not sooner," after delighting in their new menu item: a creamy hummus rigatoni with sausage. I love hummus, though wasn't really sure if the texture of hummus sauce would be too gritty. It was not. It had a lovely, substantial flavor and silky texture that was balanced well by the impeccably-cooked al dente rigatoni. Add to that the garlic, cream, sausage and herbs in this dish and you've got a winner. I highly recommend this rigatoni, of the 3 rigatoni entrees on Mamma Roma's menu. I haven't even tried the other rigatoni dishes, but still ... don't miss this creamy, garlicky hummus dinner. And the portions of rigatoni in this dish were very generous. The presentation of the lasagna was impressive, in layering and shape. I only had a bite. It had a nice flavor, but I would have needed more bites to give a better description. And since it wasn't my order, I could not indulge. The portion was generous. Also, I would never order lasagna from any restaurant given the reasons cited earlier, but this one was good. I hope someone is laughing because anyone who has grown up in a subcultural group in the US usually sounds exactly like me about the home-cooking they grew up on. Another of Mamma Roma's menu items I'd like to try is their corn and arugula white pizza. I've only found one lovely corn pizza ever at Zelo's in an LA suburb, so now that I have seen this on their menu my curiosity is piqued. Love love love the variety of the dessert menu options. It's not just the desserts in the case on display that you can order. While there are gorgeous cookies on display, the dessert menu has a long, lovely list of all kinds of variations of cheesecakes and cakes. I would like to try the lemon cake on a return visit. And more of the cookie flavors! When I asked the barista what the top desserts were, he was quick to name the cannoli as a first. You'd probably be surprised to find out that this is a counter service approach: you order and pay up at the front and the waiter brings you your food and whatever else you need. You get your own fountain drinks or tea with ice. You can tip in advance, in good faith, when you order in the beginning or you can leave cash on the table at the end of the meal, having already paid your bill in the beginning. There is also the charming dessert counter/bar and espresso area that I mentioned earlier. So, when you are finished with your lunch or dinner, you can go to the barista's counter and order dessert and cappuccino. I love that if you order cake or a cannoli, a cappuccino is only $2. This is an awesome value especially for the evening crowd. For old school Anne Arundel county and Annapolis locals, Mamma Roma's is better than the original Squisito's pizza -- and higher in quality -- but it is a bit reminiscent of that restaurant in terms of popularity and a family feel. Plus, I have never tried the pizza here, but I'm guessing it's good given the quality of the ingredients and preparations we experienced with the pasta dishes. One thing that also really stands out about Mamma Roma's is that they are the only Italian restaurant that is nestled back in the suburban Piney Orchard division of Gambrills. In other words, it's more neighborly there vs. other restaurants along the majorly-trafficked Route 3 corridor. The restaurants along Route 3 have many more transients coming in, given the ease of access, so they are naturally less neighborly. Finally, when we brought our leftovers from dinner home I set them on the kitchen table and left them for a bit. When I came back into our kitchen, it was filled with such delicious aromas! Friends, this is just how fresh the food at Mamma Roma's is. For a casual, counter service suburban, it is quite bellissima!
