Charged $750 for capacitor replacement. Not sure how they can rationalize charging over $600 in fees for a part that costs less than $100. Feeling ripped off. Others should avoid. I called Princeton Air a day before leaving a review on another site and was told a manager would have to call back within 3 business days to discuss any pricing concerns. I recently purchased a new Carrier HVAC system for my house from Princeton Air. Unfortunately, I am extremely dissatisfied with the installation after spending $26,000 for a new system. The first system they installed was the wrong size. I had to wait almost a week before they reinstalled the correct size system. Much to my dismay, the second system isn't working either. I called into customer service and asked to speak with a manager, I was told there was no manager to speak with. The customer service representative said another repairman would be out this evening. Waiting on that repairman now in my very cold house. I am now a completely dissatisfied long term customer that regrets going with Princeton Air. I will update this post when/if they correct the problem AND I have had an opportunity to speak with a manager. Update 12/15 - Happy to say PA has my new HVAC system working now. I spoke with a manager this morning and he went out of his way to make things right. Update 1/16 - two repairman were out twice yesterday. The first one said it was the thermostat was faulty. That was the third thermostat they put in. Heat was working when he left only to quit working a few hours later. Another repairman came out later in the evening and said the problem was the filter. Evidently it was too big for the system. So he changed the filter to a smaller size. It's working again, for now. Unfortunately, I have lost confidence with this company after having used them for years. Their quality seems to have gone out the window after recently having merged with Weltman Home Services. Think twice before you use Princeton Air!!! Update 1/31 We woke up this morning to a cold house. The thermostat said 65 degrees. When we turn up the thermostat the unit seems like is shutting down. This is a clear violation of their own service policy. Having a brand-new furnace fail immediately--and being left without heat in winter with no emergency response--is extremely disappointing. BEWARE OF HIDDEN DIAGNOSIS FEES I called for an appointment regarding an AC issue, and the staff was very polite on the phone. I asked about the cost, and they told me there was a $149 dispatch fee, but it would be waived if I accepted their repair quote. If I declined, I'd only owe the dispatch fee. The technician arrived, did a quick check, and gave me a $3,000(!!!) quote. When I declined, I was handed an invoice for $324 for 'diagnostic fees.' The technician was only here for less than 30 minutes, took a brief look at the unit, and charged over $300 for nothing! When I argued that I was told I'd only owe the dispatch fee, they claimed that as soon as a technician opens their bag and starts working, a diagnosis fee applies. Please double-check their fee structure before they start any work. Just wanted to share my experience so others aren't surprised! read more

Blatant Rip off! Called for plumber to address heat and water issues in my brother's house. Thermostat not working, water not running. Plumber arrived very late.. They had to send 2 plumbers because one could only address heat, the other, water issues. Water guy calls in absolute hysterics..."water heater will explode, entire system broken, will be floods...for $19 thousand he will fix..." I do not exaggerate. We got another plumber & he found some minor issues to be repaired, replaced etc. Let me tell you..I was born at night but not last night... disingenuous attempt to alarm us. It all goes down hill after sales person comes. The sales person they sent out was very knowledgeable and professional, but it all goes down hill after that. I had multiple problems and continue to have them. 1. system was installed wrong 2. they continued to send invoices for installation after i had paid 3. when repair was made to correct installation error, the technician blew a fuse and left without ensuring the system was working. It had not power!! 4. It is 5 weeks after install and they still have not filed the permits despite repeated calls and email by me 5. When my furnace quit, they quoted me $2800 to replace the induction motor on my furnace. I knew it sounded high, so I got a quote from another company. Their price was $682 for the part and no cost for labor since I still had a year left on the warranty. I went with 2nd company. It only took a 1/2 hour to replace the part. read more

Customer service extremely slow. We called three times about scheduling a furnace repair on a furnace they had installed three years ago. We were without heat in January for close to two weeks. Yikes! They must have slow walked the part from Alaska by dog sled to take two weeks to get here. No communication from them during the time we were waiting. We had no heat for ten very cold days waiting for a part. There were no updates unless we inquired and even then we were constantly given new dates. They would not connect us with service- saying they were in meetings and not available for phone calls. Finally today ,the tenth date of no heat ,a lovely lady said she would contact the service manager. And what a surprise, the part was in the warehouse. We had a. contract with them for years without any problems but service has changed and we will not be renewing our contract when it expires next month. Very frustrated and disappointed. New HVAC Dec. 2024. It has broken three times already. It's super costly to run, I'm paying MUCH MORE than before! Though I was offered a high efficiency unit. After $15,000.00 The system is noisy and keeps breaking. Air Conditioner does not keep the coolant, they think it's the installation. Don't get fooled with the enticing financing. It will cost me thousands in repairs once the warranty expires. This third time the temperatures are in the high 80' and no one gets back to me to repair the leaks. I can't begin to express my utter disappointment with this company! I have had them out for a new furnace and ac unit 15 times. each tech said something different. my unit was not installed correctly and they didn't pull the permits until 4 months later. One of the techs told me that the unit was getting hot. It was never hooked up to the heat pump. I had heat then I didn't have air. They installed the system that could only be vented with one other appliance meaning my hot water heater.. I live in a condo, not a single dwelling home. These things should've been factored in prior to the install. I hired a company to come out and check the chimney. There is no liner. Mind you throughout the whole installation book. It clearly gives different Instructions on a common shared chimney. This should've never been installed. Now they're trying to have my association pay because it's a common element. The association has nothing to do with your shoddy workmanship. you pulled the permits for the mechanicals and everything else that an installation requires at no point did anyone discuss anything with me? They chiseled out a new entryway to the chimney, placing the flue into the chimney thimble .plastered up the flu and pretty much were hoping for a Hail Mary deceitful putting myself my family neighbors in harms way needless to say, it's five months later and they brought me a portable heater. I would run not walk. This company is a danger to your home and the people you love. Improper installation of an HVAC is a hazard. Keep in mind that homeowners insurance would not cover if there were fire or even a death. I have received nothing in writing just a runaround. read more

Princeton Air/Weltman has been the very worst experience I have ever had with a professional service. After purchasing a new HVAC system and installing it at the end of January (switching over to heat pumps) I went through a nightmare experience with the new system failing multiple times, resulting in no heat for weeks until the matter was resolved 3 weeks after installation. I had to argue with them over responsibility for the problem, pushed back on them as they requested additional payments, and had to wait for service even though I had purchased the system from them and had all sorts of guarantees. And now, 4 months later, having turned on the cooling system for the first time, you guessed it, no AC in the upstairs. They couldn't send anyone out to fix it today--maybe tomorrow. Again, I purchased this system from them 4 months ago. Run away, do not use this company under any circumstances. You have been warned. read more

We hired Princeton Air to replace an old HVAC unit from the 70s. They replaced it with a modern heat pump, but unfortunately they installed it incorrectly and it ended up costing us thousands of dollars extra to heat over the winter. The following summer the air conditioner struggled to even work. We had to spend countless hours and days at home waiting on technicians to come out and give us their thoughts for why it didn't work. Every technician had a different thought and every one was wrong. We had over 15 technicians come to our house during this process. We eventually had them replace the whole system and had to pay for a gas service line to be installed by PSE&G. They did replace the whole system for free, but the amount of money we had to pay for everything meant we spent close to $50k on what should have been half that. They offered us $2000 as a credit, but that comes no where close to what we paid or the time we spent. Even getting that out of them took months. I believe this company is a service company and not an install one. I'd strongly recommend you use someone else if you're getting a new unit installed. They had so little knowledge of the machines they install that it's almost shocking. The technicians were all extremely nice and professional, but it was clear they couldn't help us. In the end I would recommend against using this company for the reasons I've outlined above. Find someone who really understands your HVAC - your sanity and happiness in the summer and winter will thank you for it. read more

Sadly Princeton Air has gone downhill. As a customer for 30 years, we were very happy and had the same tech for a decade who kept our furnace alive until we could afford one (from them). Over the past 3-4 years, Princeton Air has not been able to hold on to their techs and they are less and less experience for routine maintenance work. Their wait times are ridiculous, it feels like they are understaffed and call backs are 50/50. Still we remained customers out of loyalty, convenience and we had heard mixed reviews of competitors. For us, their maintenance contract is worthless as we had to wait 3 days for one visit and then another week (and still waiting) for service on a pilot light issue on their 7 year old water heater. The lack of hot water for showers is doable but it is not when I need to clean my medical gear. We have cancelled our contract with Princeton Air (and THAT was even difficult as I was disconnected once and then shifted to voice mail on a callback). However their staff has always been polite and pleasant. read more

It felt like they were more interested in making sales than providing quality service. False Claims: One technician falsely claimed that $2,000 worth of items were broken, which was not true. Absolute ripoff. Had them replace a kitchen faucet. It took maybe 30 minutes at most, and they charged $1100. Called and asked for an itemized invoice to explain what cost that much. Their "itemized invoiced" only listed "Install a kitchen sink faucet." That costs $900 plus a $150 dispatch fee?????? Would never recommend them for anything. Update #2... 8/8/2022: My initial call to PA was on 7/23 reporting an A/C system breakdown. I was told no appointments available until 7/26; seemed like a long time in a heat emergency, but ok, everybody is calling and you are busy. The service call charge I was told is $105 plus tax. Calling around revealed that everybody charges $$ just to show up, so there's no point complaining about that. (BTW, did you know you can join a club at PA and pay monthly so they show up sooner?) The tech who came on 7/26 (MZ) was courteous and knowledgeable. He did his job well, gave clear information, and was the bright spot in this experience (so far, to be fair). Today is 8/8. A/C is still non-operational. That's a bad thing. (It is worth mentioning that the temperature in Mercer County over these three weeks included many days with heat indexes above 100, multiple heat advisories, air quality alerts, etc. Very little in the way of relief.) Since 7/26, I have yet to receive a single follow-up phone call from anyone at PA regarding the part that had to be ordered and the possibility of a schedule for installation. I waited a respectful week before calling for an update and was told poor information from the person who answered the phone. I was told, "Oh, Wednesday, or Thursday latest." Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday...no calls. I called again today (2 pm) just to see if they remembered my case and was quickly pushed to someone (a parts guy) who I was told was likely not there, but I could leave a message for him to return my call. These are all facts, not opinions. Now for the opinion: I understand part delays, supply line problems, and how long it takes to get parts. However, Princeton Air, it would cost you ZERO dollars to reach out frequently to customers (who paid you north of $20K for the system you installed) to give updates (and maybe a little sympathy for it taking so long) about the status of the repair. No A/C in 3 weeks in the middle of multiple heat advisories and hearing nothing makes one feel like we are of no priority at all. We feel like forgotten and unimportant customers. I will give praise for good service and quality work, and what I think is fair criticism for poor service. You can do better. read more

Princeton Air replaced my entire HVAC system many years ago and has provided stellar service every step of the way since - and even fought for replacing a major component (at no charge) within a few weeks of the warranty expiring. Recently had an issue with my furnace, which had started making a sound like a train coming in. Called Princeton Air, who had a technician (Aaron, who also looked at my cooling system when I moved in) come out in 1 day. He let me know the issue was my inducer, and he lubed it up and gave me a quote for a new inducer. He said the inducer could last through the season, or it might break soon. He also told me to add some WD-40 (which he didn't have handy) and that it might help prevent an issue. Week and a half later, the inducer broke and I had no heat. Erin in the office helped coordinate sourcing the replacement, which was delivered in less than 24 hours, and Aaron and Francis (another technician) were on-site by 8 a.m. the next morning to make the replacement and confirm operation. Its tough to beat that level of response, it was Amazon-like. Just wanted to give a shout to Aaron, Francis and Erin, all who provided exceptional customer service through out this issue. They also helped me sign-up for the yearly service plan with Princeton Air, which I originally thought was a bit expensive, but gave me 15% off the inducer and the original visit from before I had signed-up. read more

It took this company FOUR MONTHS to try to install a new HVAC system in our home, and as recently as this week it still wasn't working. --In the process, they damaged our recently new gas furnace and had to replace parts for it, including a circuit board they shorted out. --They repeatedly filed for permits using the wrong name despite my correcting them, so weeks went by before their mistake was caught and we finally got permits. They kept telling me my town is just slow. --They installed parts incorrectly for the HVAC system, shorting out more wires, damaging the newly installed thermostat that then had to be replaced. That didn't happen until yesterday, 4 months into this nightmare. --The new air handler they installed in the attic leaked. It took 2 service calls, the second one lasting over 2 hours, to try to fix that. --The unit failed inspection. --One of the first times the system failed was on the very hot July 4th weekend. I'm a senior citizen with a life-threatening health issue. Their on-call technician never responded. We had to wait until the business opened again the next week to get service. --I can't count how many times they've sent technicians to my house, and how many hours and days of my time they've used up, and how much physical and emotional stress they've put me through in these last 4 months. And still the system kept failing. --After another 4 hours yesterday, they HOPE the system will now work. We started this job in June. --BEWARE. . . . read more

Our AC stopped working in the middle of a heat wave. Princeton Air came the same day to assess the situation. A part was needed to get our AC back on line. It was ordered that day, arrived two days later, and installed the day it arrived. The part and labor was covered by the maintenance contract. All in all Princeton Air was responsive and met our needs with urgency. The reps who answered the phone and the techs who came to the house were polite and answered all our questions. We're very happy and grateful with Princeton Air. We've been a customer for over 10 years! read more

Persuasive Salesmanship, Mediocre Quality of Work and Terrible Customer Service: We bought an expensive Trane A/C system from Princeton Air five years ago. The A/C was not cooling adequately from day one. Princeton Air repaired it three times under the manufacturer warranty, but the A/C still not cooling. When it is 90 degrees outside it wouldn't go below 82 inside. In contrast to their well spoken sales person promise of top service from a "family owned business", their support has been nothing but a disappointment, including their head of support (Mr. Dave Wessels). We still don't know why the A/C wouldn't cool. Could be that the A/C was not sized properly by Princeton Air or a different issue. Two years ago we replaced the A/C in another zone (we have two zones) through Costco and our experience was great. Maybe with a name like Princeton Air, they can afford charging premium and provide subpar service? read more

Called them to get my Lennox heat pump system repaired a few months ago, and bought a service contract. Returned from a week away to find the compressor running, but the air handler not working on a Saturday morning. Their web site has a banner for emergency service which offers a number and tells you to pick the answering service. Calling that number just routes you to the main voicemail, which has no option for the answering service. I got a voicemail message from someone giving another number. Tried that for several hours -- no answer, and a full mailbox so couldn't leave a message. Finally reached a breathing human about 3 PM -- who told me to call back the next day, because the on-call tech would be different! Could they just have the new on-call tech contact me? Apparently not. Two more calls today have gone to voicemail with no result so far. On the plus side, if you can ever get someone to come out, the one technician I met previously seemed highly competent. But so-called emergency service is a pretty poor joke. And oh by the way -- after I typed this, I went looking and found Fras Heating and Air in Hillsborough. They had somebody here within the hour, replaced the fan motor capacitor, and I was good to go. I bought a condominium the last month after moving to the area this year for work. The HVAC system was extremely worn, the heater was barely working at the start of the month. I knew I needed to replace it before the weather actually turned and I'm so happy I found Princeton Air. The office staff was really friendly and straightforward. The pricing wasn't insane, a little higher, but worth it for the knowledge, convince, and warranty on the work and system. The technicians were helpful and efficient, loved that they cleaned up after themselves. I just loved that they made it so simple and easy! read more

I really liked their salespeople, who were helpful and responsive and designed a great geothermal system. Sadly, their install and service team are not so great. Sure, everyone is overwhelmed by covid. But we're over a year for installing a system that should have taken months, at most. Calling them requires setting aside 15 of wait time. They almost never have arrived on time -- often hours (or days) late. And its near impossible to get customer service to call you back. I wish I could give a positive review because I do like the system they installed. But every step they have been unprofessional, slow, unclear, and a mess. read more
