We offer martial arts classes for children ages 4 through 13 and adults. Our children's martial arts curriculum is a true self defense program. We teach children the foundations of striking by way of punching and kicking, transitioning to the ground via takedowns, and ground based self defense primarily through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We help kids build confidence and improve their physical fitness while having fun. We teach our students that physical contact is the last resort outside of training, but give them the tools necessary to do so if the situation requires it. Our adult martial arts classes include Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) both with the gi uniform and without. Our MMA classes draw on techniques from many different martial arts. Our grappling classes include instruction in other disciplines besides BJJ. Our philosophy is to use the right tool from the right martial art at the right time. At Brazen Martial Arts our students are like family. We hope you'll come take a free trial class with us!

My husband also has been a member since 2019 and till now has nothing but positive things to say. We love coming here everyday and the kids look forward to the classes. That being said, Matakas BJJ is the type of community, tribe, family you want to join and surround yourself with. Professor Chris Matakas & his team of Coaches are one of the best human beings we've ever encountered. Not only are they knowledgeable in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, their techniques show they are experts in this field. Matakas BJJ provides a safe and clean environment to train. The academy has a way of welcoming you and making you feel comfortable. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. The step by step instructions and guidance they provide during classes is above and beyond! Coach Dan, Coach Emma, Coach Adam, and Coach Jim just to name a few are one of the best resources available at Matakas to help you reach your goals. We love that Professor Chris is also available at the academy. You can find him teaching classes, sharing his experiences as a black belt, or greeting you with a smile and a hand shake at the door. It can't get anymore personal than that! Professor has a way of making you feel like a part of the family as soon as you walk in the academy. We love that! If you're interested in learning more about self defense definitely come for a free trial class. We highly recommend Matakas BJJ! Classes are available 7 days a week. They offer a women's self defense class, tykes class, youth class, and adult classes ranging from fundamentals, intermediate, to advanced. You can't go wrong!

I'm sharing my experience with both billing and program structure…read more From a billing standpoint, I enrolled at a discounted rate secured through an upfront payment. On early termination, I was still required to pay a fee for months not attended, and that fee was calculated using the non‑discounted rate rather than the rate I had prepaid for. The combined effect was a higher charge applied to unused time. This was confirmed as standard policy, and no adjustment was made. From a training perspective, progression was not clearly defined. A curriculum existed but was only shared upon request, and classes did not make sequencing or advancement explicit. Without a grading system or clear milestones, it was difficult to understand how skills were intended to build over time. Overall, this combination significantly impacts the value of the program relative to its cost. Prospective members should look closely at both the billing terms and how progression is structured before enrolling.
