As an actor in the resident company during the summer, I had the amazing opportunity to live on the Priscilla Beach Theatre campus. I lived in the Farmhouse, which houses around nine people, a costume shop, costume storage, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a black box theatre. I felt like this was my home away from home during the summer; it kind of felt like my first year of college again when I lived in a dorm. You become really close with the people you live and work with - you form really special bonds. One of the really incredible things about being cast in A Chorus Line and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum this summer were the directors I had the fortune of working with. Emily Maltby directed A Chorus Line and Ron Fassler directed Forum, and both of these directors helped me bring some of my best work out on the stage. They affirmed and encouraged their casts, and maintained an expectation of professionalism throughout the summer. If you're an actor looking for summer work, I couldn't recommend this company enough. You'll make friendships that last a lifetime, enjoy sunny days and starry nights at a beach that's a five minute walk away, and get paid to do what you love!

Save your time and aggravation and go somewhere else...unless you don't mind being talked down to,…read morenever being right, enjoy disorganization, overpaying without anyone saying a word to you about it until you figure it out on your own, poor communication...and forget about getting out of paying for something that is unexplained, they would rather lose you as a customer than let a dollar get past them. The Owner although appearing sweet, is actually very condescending, and truly is never wrong...in her eyes at least. She truly knows the meaning of "sugarcoating". From the mishaps with my account I found them legitimately disorganized with poor bookkeeping. The instructor my daughter had was great with the girls and very nice, however, not the teacher that was advertised to us by the owner (aka was suppose to be the Owner, second class one of her teenage students took over). Pictures and dress rehearsal, very disorganized. And the facilities need to be cleaner... I could go into detail about the many issues I experienced but this review would be way too long. Unfortunately the owner soured our experience enough we are not returning. I wondered why upon signing up this past year why no one had heard of this place...now I know why. Word of mouth is the most powerful source of advertising, especially amongst parents, and this Mom's mouth is saying "No Thanks" to the Dance Factory.

My daughter has been attending The Dance Factory for over 10 years. She has been very happy here…read moreover the years and has grown into a strong, independent dancer and person thanks in large part to the many hours she spends there. The facility itself is very nice with 3 large studios and a locker room for the students. The ceilings are high and the lobby is open and bright and filled with comfortable seating. But what really makes this a topnotch dance school is the staff. The office manager is organized and clearly and efficiently communicates what we need to know. The instructors are tough and expect a lot from the students, but in a good way. Their choreography is always innovative, fresh and age-appropriate. They are dedicated and hard working. The instruction is varied and challenging. The owner is consistently bringing in top-notch guest artists and providing other fun team-building opportunities for her team. There are so many benefits to dance, being part of a team, learning to deal with disappointment appropriately, learning punctuality and discipline, keeping your body healthy and fit, and I could go on...I am very thankful to have a studio of this caliber so close to home. It really is the only game in town and this family wouldn't dream of dancing anywhere but here.

Also, they have plenty of state-of-the art equipment. Dave was our DJ for the wedding, and he surpassed our high expectations. Our crowd danced all night, and many many guests told us that we had a great DJ. At one point it felt like every person was dancing. But more than anything else, I was impressed by Dave's warm and calm demeanor, his organization, and the way he handled our large party for introductions. He was low-key, which is just what we wanted. We had a wedding coordinator to run the ceremony and tell the party when to walk, but, had I to do it over again, I would have Dave do that part too. Don't hesitate to hire him!

He lived up to all expectations. He listened to all we had to say about what we wanted for music and how we wanted the night to go and offered suggestions as we went through planning the night. Greg was great at reading the crowd and getting everyone up onto the dance floor. Everyone danced from during dinner all throughout the night. Greg also did an excellent job of announcing our photo booth and encouraging guests to go up and use it when the lines were short. I felt like Greg had everything taken care of the whole night. And on the night of your wedding, that is a great feeling to have.

We spent a full day on the main campus, which encompasses the reconstructed English colonial village, the Wampanoag homesite, a wooden fort overlooking the bay, and access to the Mayflower II and the Grist Mill. The combination of those components made it a full day visit rather than a quick stop. The historical interpreters are the defining element of the experience. In the English colonial village, the actors remained in character throughout, speaking as 17th century colonists and engaging with us from within that perspective without breaking the illusion. The knowledge they brought to those interactions was thorough enough that specific questions about individual historical figures, including ancestors who came over on the Mayflower, could often be addressed in detail. The Wampanoag homesite operates differently, with Native staff who speak as themselves and share the history and culture of the Wampanoag people from their own perspective rather than through historical character. That distinction is meaningful and gave the site a dual narrative. The canoe making demonstrations and the depth of knowledge the staff brought to those conversations were highlights of that section. For a living history experience that handles multiple perspectives with care and depth, Plimoth Patuxent Museums is one of the more rewarding historical sites in the region and well worth the time commitment.

But each one unto itself can be as underwhelming as Plymouth Rock is small (and underwhelming)-- and I came in with high expectations based on fond memories from youth. -- Pilgrim Village and Wampanoag Huts: Impressive structures, but mostly empty, with very sparse allocation of costumed human actors and no scheduled presentations. It's sort of the historical/museum equivalent of going to see a comedian who doesn't have an actual set, but relies exclusively on crowd work. The actors, when you can find them, do a nice job, and some are quite knowledgable-- but the onus is on the paying visitors to ask questions, so go in ready to do your own crowd work. They all stay in character, so you can't really ask about them in the third person or refer to things later than outside their 1627 setting. Interestingly, there's at least twice as many gift shop employees as costumed actors. Parking is plentiful. A 2.5-mile ride to the two other attractions. -- Grist Mill: A more relaxed look and an actual presentation, both upstairs where the corn is ground and downstairs looking at the machinery. Another gift shop. Limited parking. Walkable to/from the Mayflower II. -- Mayflower II: A 1950s replica of the original Mayflower, sent to the US as a gift from England. Fun to look around, but limited staff and no real presentation. It's up to you to ask questions. No parking specifically dedicated to this attraction; you gotta park on the main streets. Walkable to/from the Grist Mill. This can be an enjoyable experience if you come prepared with things you want to ask and understand the mostly-self-guided aspect. If not, it can be tiring, boring, and awkward.
