The gold standard for sauna is 180 degrees Fahrenheit. It struggles to even get to 160. It's often at 140. This is not acceptable for a sauna. I also despise when people have taken to making it into a steam room. It's f$&ckin stupid. So to members who read this. Stop with that. You want steam go to 92nd location, they have a steam room. The point is to heat your body up and get blood flowing heart rate up and recover. Sauna is not about just getting wet and sweaty. When the sauna was renovated about 2 years ago. You also got rid of the second level , why? Some people want to be up there and get hotter. Also why is the temperature sensor inside with the sauna heater. Is there a reason why it's placed there ? The sauna will never get hot enough. If the sensor is basically next to it. I remember the original sensor before the sauna was renovated was by door. And back then the sauna, never really had stupid A holes putting water on the heater. We would police that and stop them. Please fix the sauna. Fix the sauna please. Please fix the sauna

I'm impressed at how efficient and configurable Nate has made this space. I hardly notice when he's setting up to have me work on the next thing. That said the equipment is basic enough that you can replicate the routines at any commercial gym. The Trainer: Nate knows his stuff! First of all I blew my lower back out doing burpees in a kickboxing class due to the recommended form. My partner who also trains with him recommended Nate to me. So we met and right away Nate evaluated me and built a 4 day workout plan that I can do on my own. Additionally, he's corrected everything I've done wrong for years and helped me isolate muscles to maximize the effectiveness of the workout. He's also introduced me to amino acids (I know...basic stuff, but not to me) he also taught me a lot of new challenging stuff and makes sure I keep up with my diaphragm exercises to strengthen my back. So far my results have been great (lost 12lbs, increased muscle mass) which is a bit of a mind trip because I'm never tired or in pain! Above all, Nate is very personable and charming! I've seen him flex his communication style to work with people all over the spectrum (a business man at heart). He's also in great shape which is aspirational and I guess what you'd want in a personal trainer. I haul my developing buns of steel 18 blocks to train with Nate, he's been worth every penny, I doubt you'll be disappointed!

Their classes are the perfect amount of time and use various tools for moves (kettlebells, trx, clubs and bodyweight), have minimal cardio and no more than 5-6 people in group size which allows for plenty of attention/form correction if needed. Classes are challenging but NEVER feel like torture, I always enjoy them which has not always been the case in other studios' classes. They change their programming up every 4 weeks and each program targets the full body. Since starting about 2.5 years ago, in addition to getting stronger in general, I've noticed that some irritating chronic issues in my body have gone away by strength training. I haven't felt the need to go to the chiropractor in a year, my posture is better and shoulder and hip irritation are gone. Clearly these issues were being caused by muscle weakness and I just didn't know it. I wasn't expecting these issues to clear up from strength training but am so grateful that they did! In addition, Steve the owner is truly a community minded guy. He's generous and kind and has created a great place (all of the coaches are wonderful). Although Jennie came highly recommended by 2 very athletic Brooklyn frends (who credit her personal training and therapeutic massages with allowing them to maintain ambitious fitness regimens), I never used her services before because I live in Manhattan and Hands On Health's studio is in Park Slope, Brooklyn. That is, until today. I had a "runner's emergency", namely a horribly painful piriformis muscle in my tush that caused radiating pain in my legs which made it almost impossible to walk...much less to run! In desperation, I decided that I would finally make the trek to Brooklyn to seek relief from Jennie - so I phoned her, and although I was a new customer, she squeezed me in (pardon the pun) on a last-minute basis to her very busy schedule, because she knew I was acutely suffering. After an hour at Hands on Health (an unassuming but serene setting, located 2 blocks from the 15th Street F subway in Park Slope) and some amazingly expert therapeutic massage, I was able to stand upright again. Unlike a number of massage practitioners at the local Chinese "Qi Gong Tui Na" places I've tried for prior sports injuries, Jennie KixMiller really knows exactly what she is doing. Aside from giving me a great massage, she also showed me some preventive and remedial stretches and exercises for the acute problem I was having, and provided other helpful fitness guidance. My particular issue is severe and will require a few more massage treatments, but based upon my pain-relieving experience today, I am really looking forward to continuing to work with Jennie until the last kink is out of my butt and my legs! I don't even mind the F train ride : )).

Teens take over the place, as do unsupervised children. Lifting on a wooden floor is dangerous. I personally had to put up a "broken do not use sign" on a broken peleton, because the staff didn't notice. There's one plyo box that you have to run around to find. NO showers...in a gym. The manager, Chris, does not address your concerns, even after contacting him personally.

There are TONS of bushes with different fruits there, which I did not expect.. and also a TON of glass in the sand which is horrible, so BE CAREFUL! There are also spiky plants in the sand as well that hurt if you step on them so at least wear slippers. If you come there with your bike, just know you will have to climb around to get to the beach area. Tons of people windsurfing there which was a pretty cool thing to watch, them being raised up into the air and falling into the water. The view is gorgeous there as well so I naturally had to take tons of photos. There generally ARE people there and you will see them pass by but you can find spots where you are out of view if you want to sunbathe there. Overall a nice little spot to stop by every once in a while while biking by the belt.

What Happened to Plum Beach?…read more Two years ago, I gave Plumb Beach five stars. It was a peaceful little Brooklyn treasure where individuals, couples and families relaxed, people walked their dogs, windsurfers enjoyed the water, and others simply came to enjoy nature. After visiting last weekend on July 28, 2026, I barely recognized it. The issue wasn't the normal sounds of people enjoying the beach. It was extremely loud amplified music from large speakers that could be heard far beyond the groups using them. A senior beachgoer objected when a massive 4'x 3' speaker, positioned only about 10 feet from him and his wife, was turned on at full blast. This couple, along with dozens of other individuals and families, had already been peacefully enjoying the beach before a group of approximately 20+ people, (including babies) arrived and set up beside them with a large tent, enormous speaker and barbecue grills. When the gentleman objected to the volume, the music was initially turned down. Shortly afterward, however, the entire group packed up their tent, speaker and belongings and relocated approximately one city block farther down the beach, near where I was sitting. They then turned the music up extremely loud again. What demonstrates just how excessive the volume was is that even after moving that considerable distance, their music could still be clearly heard back where the gentleman and his wife had been sitting. Near me, it was so loud that I couldn't hear my small personal radio sitting beside me. I watched other beachgoers become frustrated, pack up their belongings and leave what had been a peaceful beach before this group arrived. TO BE CLEAR, this is not about the type, language, or culture of the music. It could have been American, Caribbean, Chinese, Pakistani, Russian, or any other genre or language. The issue is not the music itself--it is the VOLUME. No one person's music should be so loud that everyone around them is forced to listen to it or leave. Public spaces are meant to be shared respectfully so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy them. A few days later, I returned to Plumb Beach hoping my experience had been an isolated incident. Unfortunately, what I found was even more discouraging. The area where the large gathering had been was covered with garbage. There were beer bottles (including broken glass), food containers, disposable plates and cups, plastic bags, charcoal remnants, citrus fruit, and even soiled diapers scattered throughout the sand and among the protected dune vegetation. These aren't just cosmetic issues. Broken glass creates a hazard for people, pets and wildlife, and trash left in the dunes damages one of the most environmentally sensitive parts of the beach. My concern has never been about families gathering or people enjoying themselves. It's about respecting a public beach that belongs to everyone. If you can carry coolers, grills, diapers, food, beverages, and supplies onto the beach, you can carry the empty containers and garbage back off the beach. Plumb Beach WAS one of Brooklyn's peaceful hidden treasures. I sincerely hope stronger enforcement of littering, noise, grilling, and dune protection can help restore the beach so future visitors can enjoy the natural beauty that once made this place so special.

I had a very poor experience here…read more I brought in my bike for a front shifting issue and was charged for derailleur adjustment twice, but the real issue was not identified. Multiple mechanics suggested I might not know how to shift properly, but the actual problem turned out to be a bent chainring. That was only discovered after I went back multiple times and pushed for them to keep looking. It did not seem like the bike had been properly test ridden before I was told the issue was rider error. Communication was also difficult, and the overall attitude I experienced from staff felt passive aggressive rather than helpful. I was largely left on my own trying to sort out what was going on. They also replaced the wrong bolt on my saddle. When I asked about replacing the correct bolts, I was told they did not have the proper ones, and the issue was not properly resolved. After multiple visits, repeated charges, poor communication, and the real problem being missed until I pushed for further inspection, I would not return.

I've been trying to get my little guy comfortable just gliding around on his new bike. One thing I read suggested detaching the pedals until he's ready. I tried to detach the pedals myself but didn't have the right tools. So I brought it back to Bicycle Habitat to have them just unscrew the pedals. And guess what? They charged me $9! To do about 45 seconds of "labor". For removing the pedals of a bike that I just bought brand new from the store. Does this seem right to you? Seems like money-grubbing greedflation jerkmanship to me. It's sad because I wanted this to be the spot where we could come for repairs, gadgets, and service. After this experience, I'm compelled to look elsewhere. Really kind of shameful.

Emily has been my yoga instructor for the past three years and the words that come to mind when I think of her teach style are: attentive, thoughtful, healing, and most of all she still is able to challenge you. I recently had a Thai Yoga Massage session with her too, and it was SUCH a restorative and personal experience. She was extremely attentive of my joints and muscles and wasn't afraid to communicate with me throughout the process (which made me feel a lot more comfortable than I would have). After the session, I felt amazing -- it was just like having "yoga done to you" so I felt all the benefits I would have felt from a restorative yoga class. I know she offers a 7-day program for her Thai Yoga Massage and I am going to be looking into that because I'm considering taking it! read more

Travel can be stressful and I'd had a killer trip to DC for work the week before and visiting family always drags it out of me. And then I found this wonderful place with amazing women and I got to release what I was holding in and back. The owner could tell my back was arching when I laid flat so she put yoga blocks under my feet to flatten my spine out more and this adjustment is a game changer! Who knew?! I've been to 100's of yoga classes at many places over the years and nobody pointed this out to me before. I use this technique all the time now. Coming out of it wasn't awkward either. From Ivy's past reviews I knew she was the one (personable, cares about her clients, invested in long term lifestyle improvements). Ivy is empathetic and encouraging no matter your level and will push you to ensure you are getting the most out of your sessions. Her programming is diverse and aligns with your personal goals (which you go over in the first consultation call). I did the group sessions and Ivy always makes sure the vibes are uplifting and motivating (awesome playlists btw - also loved the workout groups)! I was already seeing results by the end of the first month, already learned how to properly deadlift and squat and understood which muscles had to be worked on with certain exercises. Ivy will go over exercises with patience and understanding and even breaks down steps further if you are struggling. Working out with Ivy was the highlight of my week and I looked forward to every session. I can now lift heavy things I couldn't carry before and my stamina is improving every week. My only regret was not starting with her sooner! I went from running the other way with the idea of the gym to loving exercise (not to mention my mental health is on an all time high since starting four months ago). I've learned to love my body and love sweating it out at the gym. The first day I stepped into a public gym by myself, I was able to approach the squat racks without embarrassing myself! I cannot emphasize how amazing she is through this essay alone so definitely call her for a consultation and see for yourself ;)

She helped me re-integrate my body after the birth of my son and the effects were long-lasting and profound. Fifteen months postpartum, I realized (despite my general exhaustion) that I really needed help regaining strength in my pelvic floor and inner thighs. Every time I sneezed, I was reminded of this need! My feet have always had the tendency to pronate and my stomach to pooch out -- pregnancy, labor and postpartum recovery exacerbated these tendencies. Amy was referred to me by a dear friend and body worker who I trust completely so I decided to give her a test run. After our first session, I committed myself to see Amy once a week for six months as my first big act of self-love post-baby. Six months turned into three years and when we moved out of NYC, Amy was one of the people I was most sad to leave behind! In our time working together, Amy served as a gentle, wise and extremely intuitive guide for me to get back into my body. She helped me integrate all the changes it had gone through and strengthen myself in a way I never thought possible. It wasn't about doing thousands of crunches - quite the opposite! Sometimes we barely "did exercises" at all, and yet I'd leave every session feeling clearer and more connected to my body than I had before. Plus, it supported all my other activities - running, biking, swimming, yoga, etc. - Amy's voice would be with me as I did it all! It was wonderful in every way and I continue to reap the benefits of the investment I made in my health and wellbeing by working with Amy. For me, the quality of Amy's feedback and her amazing ability to support those she works with stem from her attention to detail and her deep understanding of how bodies move. She was so in tune with me, as an individual, and so respectful of my body's capabilities and limitations.
