The gold standard for sauna is 180 degrees Fahrenheit. It struggles to even get to 160. It's often at 140. This is not acceptable for a sauna. I also despise when people have taken to making it into a steam room. It's f$&ckin stupid. So to members who read this. Stop with that. You want steam go to 92nd location, they have a steam room. The point is to heat your body up and get blood flowing heart rate up and recover. Sauna is not about just getting wet and sweaty. When the sauna was renovated about 2 years ago. You also got rid of the second level , why? Some people want to be up there and get hotter. Also why is the temperature sensor inside with the sauna heater. Is there a reason why it's placed there ? The sauna will never get hot enough. If the sensor is basically next to it. I remember the original sensor before the sauna was renovated was by door. And back then the sauna, never really had stupid A holes putting water on the heater. We would police that and stop them. Please fix the sauna. Fix the sauna please. Please fix the sauna

I'm impressed at how efficient and configurable Nate has made this space. I hardly notice when he's setting up to have me work on the next thing. That said the equipment is basic enough that you can replicate the routines at any commercial gym. The Trainer: Nate knows his stuff! First of all I blew my lower back out doing burpees in a kickboxing class due to the recommended form. My partner who also trains with him recommended Nate to me. So we met and right away Nate evaluated me and built a 4 day workout plan that I can do on my own. Additionally, he's corrected everything I've done wrong for years and helped me isolate muscles to maximize the effectiveness of the workout. He's also introduced me to amino acids (I know...basic stuff, but not to me) he also taught me a lot of new challenging stuff and makes sure I keep up with my diaphragm exercises to strengthen my back. So far my results have been great (lost 12lbs, increased muscle mass) which is a bit of a mind trip because I'm never tired or in pain! Above all, Nate is very personable and charming! I've seen him flex his communication style to work with people all over the spectrum (a business man at heart). He's also in great shape which is aspirational and I guess what you'd want in a personal trainer. I haul my developing buns of steel 18 blocks to train with Nate, he's been worth every penny, I doubt you'll be disappointed!

Although Jennie came highly recommended by 2 very athletic Brooklyn frends (who credit her personal training and therapeutic massages with allowing them to maintain ambitious fitness regimens), I never used her services before because I live in Manhattan and Hands On Health's studio is in Park Slope, Brooklyn. That is, until today. I had a "runner's emergency", namely a horribly painful piriformis muscle in my tush that caused radiating pain in my legs which made it almost impossible to walk...much less to run! In desperation, I decided that I would finally make the trek to Brooklyn to seek relief from Jennie - so I phoned her, and although I was a new customer, she squeezed me in (pardon the pun) on a last-minute basis to her very busy schedule, because she knew I was acutely suffering. After an hour at Hands on Health (an unassuming but serene setting, located 2 blocks from the 15th Street F subway in Park Slope) and some amazingly expert therapeutic massage, I was able to stand upright again. Unlike a number of massage practitioners at the local Chinese "Qi Gong Tui Na" places I've tried for prior sports injuries, Jennie KixMiller really knows exactly what she is doing. Aside from giving me a great massage, she also showed me some preventive and remedial stretches and exercises for the acute problem I was having, and provided other helpful fitness guidance. My particular issue is severe and will require a few more massage treatments, but based upon my pain-relieving experience today, I am really looking forward to continuing to work with Jennie until the last kink is out of my butt and my legs! I don't even mind the F train ride : )).

Teens take over the place, as do unsupervised children. Lifting on a wooden floor is dangerous. I personally had to put up a "broken do not use sign" on a broken peleton, because the staff didn't notice. There's one plyo box that you have to run around to find. NO showers...in a gym. The manager, Chris, does not address your concerns, even after contacting him personally.

I'm told it was over a leak that had not been fixed, and indeed for at least 6 months, there has been a jury-rigged funnel and tube to deal with a leak coming from the apartment above. There are also spiky plants in the sand as well that hurt if you step on them so at least wear slippers. If you come there with your bike, just know you will have to climb around to get to the beach area. Tons of people windsurfing there which was a pretty cool thing to watch, them being raised up into the air and falling into the water. The view is gorgeous there as well so I naturally had to take tons of photos. There generally ARE people there and you will see them pass by but you can find spots where you are out of view if you want to sunbathe there. What Happened to Plum Beach?…read more Two years ago, I gave Plumb Beach five stars. It was a peaceful little Brooklyn treasure where individuals, couples and families relaxed, people walked their dogs, windsurfers enjoyed the water, and others simply came to enjoy nature. After visiting last weekend on July 28, 2026, I barely recognized it. The issue wasn't the normal sounds of people enjoying the beach. It was extremely loud amplified music from large speakers that could be heard far beyond the groups using them. A senior beachgoer objected when a massive 4'x 3' speaker, positioned only about 10 feet from him and his wife, was turned on at full blast. This couple, along with dozens of other individuals and families, had already been peacefully enjoying the beach before a group of approximately 20+ people, (including babies) arrived and set up beside them with a large tent, enormous speaker and barbecue grills. When the gentleman objected to the volume, the music was initially turned down. Shortly afterward, however, the entire group packed up their tent, speaker and belongings and relocated approximately one city block farther down the beach, near where I was sitting. They then turned the music up extremely loud again. What demonstrates just how excessive the volume was is that even after moving that considerable distance, their music could still be clearly heard back where the gentleman and his wife had been sitting. Near me, it was so loud that I couldn't hear my small personal radio sitting beside me. I watched other beachgoers become frustrated, pack up their belongings and leave what had been a peaceful beach before this group arrived. TO BE CLEAR, this is not about the type, language, or culture of the music. It could have been American, Caribbean, Chinese, Pakistani, Russian, or any other genre or language. The issue is not the music itself--it is the VOLUME. No one person's music should be so loud that everyone around them is forced to listen to it or leave. Public spaces are meant to be shared respectfully so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy them. A few days later, I returned to Plumb Beach hoping my experience had been an isolated incident. Unfortunately, what I found was even more discouraging. The area where the large gathering had been was covered with garbage. There were beer bottles (including broken glass), food containers, disposable plates and cups, plastic bags, charcoal remnants, citrus fruit, and even soiled diapers scattered throughout the sand and among the protected dune vegetation. These aren't just cosmetic issues. Broken glass creates a hazard for people, pets and wildlife, and trash left in the dunes damages one of the most environmentally sensitive parts of the beach. My concern has never been about families gathering or people enjoying themselves. It's about respecting a public beach that belongs to everyone. If you can carry coolers, grills, diapers, food, beverages, and supplies onto the beach, you can carry the empty containers and garbage back off the beach. Plumb Beach WAS one of Brooklyn's peaceful hidden treasures. I sincerely hope stronger enforcement of littering, noise, grilling, and dune protection can help restore the beach so future visitors can enjoy the natural beauty that once made this place so special.

I had a very poor experience here…read more I brought in my bike for a front shifting issue and was charged for derailleur adjustment twice, but the real issue was not identified. Multiple mechanics suggested I might not know how to shift properly, but the actual problem turned out to be a bent chainring. That was only discovered after I went back multiple times and pushed for them to keep looking. It did not seem like the bike had been properly test ridden before I was told the issue was rider error. Communication was also difficult, and the overall attitude I experienced from staff felt passive aggressive rather than helpful. I was largely left on my own trying to sort out what was going on. They also replaced the wrong bolt on my saddle. When I asked about replacing the correct bolts, I was told they did not have the proper ones, and the issue was not properly resolved. After multiple visits, repeated charges, poor communication, and the real problem being missed until I pushed for further inspection, I would not return.

Not your friendly neighborhood bike shop, as it turns out! We bought a brand new $400 bike for my 6…read moreyear-old from here a couple of weeks ago. I've been trying to get my little guy comfortable just gliding around on his new bike. One thing I read suggested detaching the pedals until he's ready. I tried to detach the pedals myself but didn't have the right tools. So I brought it back to Bicycle Habitat to have them just unscrew the pedals. And guess what? They charged me $9! To do about 45 seconds of "labor". For removing the pedals of a bike that I just bought brand new from the store. Does this seem right to you? Seems like money-grubbing greedflation jerkmanship to me. It's sad because I wanted this to be the spot where we could come for repairs, gadgets, and service. After this experience, I'm compelled to look elsewhere. Really kind of shameful.

I've sat here and typed out several reviews, none of which I felt did justice to what the Speakeasy means to me. Sure, I can say all the right things like, it's super clean and I've never felt more comfortable being in "public" during a global pandemic. I feel confident that while lying on gym mats, which thankfully don't have that trademark gym smell soaked into them, that I'm safe. And it doesn't just smell clean, everything *IS* clean! After sessions, I clean everything I used and then I watch it be cleaned yet again before it makes it to the hands of another human. And sure, I can go on about the coaches being super friendly (but not creepily over-friendly) and knowledgeable. It's been almost a year to the day from the start of my journey from literally not understanding how to perform an unweighted hip hinge to really helping me tweak my kettlebell swing to be safe and effective (and heavier) and just generally encouraging me to try new things. And of course I can say how if being in person is not your thing right now, the virtual classes are still amazing. I never knew someone could pay attention to how I'm moving so well from the other side of a screen. The only limitation is the gear and space you have where you are. But even then, I've seen the coaches come up with super innovative ways to help you work with what you've got! But the best part of being at the Speakeasy is it's heart. I can try to talk about it, but it's something you feel and experience and not really meant to be put into words. And while heart is the Planeteer that receives the least amount of love, I think it's hands down the best quality of this little gym. read more

More trainers like Coach Fury and this world would be a better place!! :-) I met Steve seeking some help in advanced double kettlebells technique to pass my SFG2 test. He is very passionate,skillful and really knows how to teach,motivate and correct little ,slightly noticeable nuances in the perfect form and correct breathing. When I was younger I never payed attention to those thing,didn't realize how crucial are they to your health and vitality.It takes time and patience and very few coaches really know how to do it.Coach Fury is constantly refining his skills and learning new techniques. Steve has huge arsenal of tools in his disposal: kettlebells,sandbags,indian clubs just to name a few. He incorporates them in his training,no matter if it is PT or group exercise class,you will receive his full attention. I was never much of a fitness buff or someone who found much joy in working out, I was also never a person who had much confidence in either the way my body looked or my abilities to be truly strong. Then along came Coach Fury, and everything changed. Fury not only helped me discover a true love of fitness and workouts that I found challenging and would actually WANT to do, he helped me find a pride in myself and my body that I didn't think I'd ever have. His depth of knowledge and attention to form and detail are amazing; after two years of training with him, I'm still learning new things from him every time I get the opportunity to have him train me. Coach Fury has changed not only my body but my life and how I approach both. He is not only an amazing and insightful trainer, but also a great human being who takes the whole person into consideration when he trains. Fury is really, really smart and he makes sure he knows what a body can do, what its potential is and then he makes it happen.While his workouts are strenuous and challenging, it may feel sometimes like not a lot is happening but then you suddenly realize that you are incredibly strong, your balance is vastly improved, your body -- in my case an old one -- is transformed into something that has beautiful muscles and wonderful definition while still being longer and leaner than it ever was and not bulky in any way. I try to describe the Speakeasy to friends and the best thing I can come up with is that you go there to spend time with some really awesome people while also moving heavy things. I'm still not sure how Coach Fury managed to get such a fantastic group of trainers and fellow gym members, but he did it: this place is a true gem. The trainers have the hard-to-find combination of knowing their stuff while also being totally relatable. I'm so impressed with how Coach Fury and the team seamlessly shifted their training sessions to online format; the small group workouts (no equipment needed!) are the highlight of my day. Each coach has their own unique style, but all hold true to the high standard of quality movement. Online classes during this pandemic have been a lifesaver! The small group classes have helped me continue my training while at home. Before each new phase of training Fury sends out a breakdown of the moves with instructional videos, which I find really help me learn the form. Although it's not a CrossFit affiliate anymore, the programming is still pretty typical for what you'd find at a CrossFit gym. The gym space and facilities are about what I've experienced at other NY gyms. The membership fees are good value and the class sizes are small enough to get focused coaching and fun camaraderie. This gym is truly a welcoming environment and I'm very grateful to be part of the community.

Admittedly I haven't really taken advantage of the social events, but the people in my classes are all super friendly and I'd absolutely get involved if I had more time or was struggling to make friends. With all of that said, the thing that's kept me going above all else is the absolutely fantastic instruction. The coaches give you lots of individual attention and place really strong emphasis on form - it almost feels like having unlimited access to a bunch of really great, well-credentialed, and patient personal trainers. I never thought I'd willingly get up at 5am several times a week, but here I am, absolutely jazzed to get 6am ass-kickings several times a week.

When I first walked into Len's studio, I was tired, unmotivated, and feeling a little too comfortable in my fluff. Somehow, he met me exactly where I was and still got results. Before we even talk training, let's talk about the studio. It is sleek, spotless, and beautifully equipped with everything you actually need. No chaos, no crowds, no side-eyes. Just a clean, private space that instantly puts you at ease. It smells amazing, it's immaculately maintained, and most importantly, it feels safe. Len is a true professional. No weird vibes, no pressure, no ego. Just focused, respectful, all-business energy that lets you relax and do the work. What started as "let me try this for a month or two" turned into consistent training twice a week for nearly nine months. That alone says everything. Len helped me rebuild strength, energy, and confidence without running me into the ground or forcing workouts I dreaded. My clothes fit better, my stamina is up, and I feel like myself again. I still have goals ahead, but thanks to Len, I'm back in the game and moving forward the right way. If you're looking for a trainer who prioritizes safety, delivers real results, and works out of a clean, private studio where you can truly focus on yourself, Len is it. Period.

Buyer beware. I paid for a month's worth of private training (2-3x a week) in November 2022 after…read moreexperiencing one class with Len. The session itself was okay. I told and warned him I was in a very unwell physical condition and that's why I was seeking professional guidance, but he pushed me to the point where I was too fatigued to continue my workout and threw up. Still, I wanted to give it a shot because I was desperate to become healthier. But very shortly after I had to go to LA for work, and ended up staying here indefinitely. I am not sure when I will be coming back to New York. I asked Len if he would be willing to provide a refund given the circumstances, but he didn't even respond. I followed up asking for any response, even if it was going to be a no. I also called and emailed him, but he has completely ignored all my attempts to contact him. By the way, he never said that refunds are not allowed and that private training lessons expire after X months. I also never signed anything. I simply sent him money through Venmo because I trusted him and assumed business would be conducted in good faith. Even in the texts he agreed to a pause. You can call me naive or whatever, but I've never had issues with verbal agreements (which are legally binding) with past trainers. Lesson learned. I am posting this so no one else has to go through this and lose well over a thousand dollars. There is another review like this. After seeing this type of behavior from a business, I wouldn't even want to engage anymore. Screenshots posted for transparency.

"Carol Kick Fever Glasgow" is awesome and she means business. When you attend her class you have to be ready to work - I mean ready to work - LOL! I purchased 8 classes from Groupon - and I am really enjoying it! If you want to lose weight - learn martial arts - in addition to self defense............. this is your place. As of my second class - I could kick some one's ass - with one punch dead in their nose - break it - and one kick in the crutch - LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! Dont mess with me........... hahahahah

In just these few weeks I've gotten stronger and see my physical progress. She arrives to my home on time and prepared with my exercises along with equipment. She regularly posts fitness info on my Facebook page and checks in on my progress during the week. Her prices are reasonable for in home training and I feel lucky to have her help as I get into shape.
