Shafiq is amazing; professionally and personally. He was able to recover documents from an old hard drive when Geek Squad and Micro Computers (advertised as the best) were unable to recover (some said "we may be able to do it, but it will cost a lot of money; no guarantees and the hard drive may be completely destroyed in the process"). Current "technical professionals" do not have the knowledge and experience known by their elders. I have visited Pro Computers over more that 20 years. Shafiq was recommended to me by a former employer. He is very knowledgeable in many areas of interest. Many of his clients are also exceptional. I've been to the store twice and I am VERY satisfied with the service. First time I went to see if my 2014 Dell Inspiron could get an upgraded. They were very thorough and advised that an upgrade would speed things up. They were clear about the approach and that the processor had to be ordered, so it would be a matter of days. on day 3, I got the call to get the laptop, They showed me how it was working faster and I was very happy. Second visit was for a keyboard that was unresponsive at times. Again, they inspected the keyboard and told me what they could do. They replaced the keyboard and it is not working any better but they had pointed out that there was some water damage. The are professionals, transparent and knowledgeable. I prefer going to them than to BestBuy or another corporation. They know what they are doing and would go again in a heartbeat. read more

Before having lunch at the Korean restaurant next next door, I decided to stop by and peek in Pro Computers, to see if they had any cheap power supplies for my OLD emachine. I've been hunting on eBay for a NEW one for a while, but it's kind of a hassle to make a bid, wait, then hope that no one has placed a higher bid than you. Then you gotta sit and play the waiting game for it to arrive. They didn't have any new micro-ATX power supplies, but they were willing to sell me a used one for $20. I could have probably purchased a new one on eBay for about that price, but I wasn't certain. I asked if I could have it for $15 and he agreed. Haggling for a product totally empowers the customer. I left feeling perhaps a little bit guilty, but man did it feel great. That was $5 I was able to put toward my $8 lunch at Dong Hae Bada. he he he. Although this place looks run-down, the folks inside are nice and helpful. I've stopped by the Geek Squad before for diagnostics, and although they can helpful too...they are expensive. Considering this is really the only computer repair store that I've been to (aside for the Geek Squad) I wouldn't hesitate to come here again. I have sent some folks here and they seem to have mixed experiences. The final straw that has me rewriting this review was the experience my mom had with them. They had her laptop for two weeks. Any updates she got were because she reached out to them. Finally after the last failed attempt to get an update she decided to recapture her machine and take it elsewhere. Thankfully getting it back was relatively easy. I am getting the impression that Pro Computers is a hit or miss sort of experience partially dependent on who you interact with and how complex your problem might be. For obvious reasons they are interested in the low hanging fruit and when you are dealing with a laptop that is often the battery or cord connector. I can no longer send folks someplace where good service is apparently a 50/50 shot. I am not a betting kind of person, never have been, and I am not going to risk referring folks to someplace where they may or may not get decent service. I am still thankful they were able to help me with my old laptop and I am glad my mom was able to get her machine back with relative ease and a new cord, even if that was not her primary issue. read more

I got lucky and ended up at Pro Computer's with a great rep, "Katie." She is the bomb. She is straight forward about what I needed. When the part arrived, she fixed it while I waited and even solved a couple other problems that had been plaguing me, but didn't charge me for those services. read more

I went to ProComputers to transfer files from my old laptop to a new laptop I'd purchased. I came in at the end of the day and anticipated having to leave both laptops with them (at least) overnight. I was amazed and delighted that they were able to complete the work that evening; I was able to use my new laptop when I teleworked the next morning!! The extremely skilled and helpful technician opened up the laptop while we talked, answered all my questions and showed me exactly what he would be doing to get the new laptop up and running. Though I'm sure I'm far from the most tech savvy customer they have, I really appreciate the technician's excellent approach to customer service and his willingness to teach me more about the equipment I'm using. This place was recommended to me by my fastidious best friend. She was thrilled that they rescued hundreds of pictures that no one else could recover, so I came in with high hopes. My laptop company and a large electronics retailer had quoted me about $400 and several weeks to fix my screen. It's not even WORTH that (technically speaking of course, as my life is in the thing). Pro Computers quoted me a third of that and 45 minutes. It was, in fact, an upgraded screen. They explained how, my eyes glazed over, fun was had by all. Kind, smart, reasonably priced, quality, speed....doesn't get much better than this. Should have known when my mega-picky friend recommended them in the first place! Guys...I wont get into the finer details but here is my recent review....saw yelp, decided to give em a try anways thinking, maybe those few positive reviews were okay....NOPE!!! Told me computer would be completed on same day....took them 3 days and I never got a phone call from them...each day I called they said it would be done the same day...then it turns out they didn't even work on my computer until the 3rd day...I checked the event log. The worst part...they took out my HDD drive without consulting me...I didn't request to have my video card removed, that wasn't what I brought my computer in for...I told them I needed my computer back fast as I needed to take my online courses (Luckily I planned for something like this).....I told them to contact me before they deviated from doing anything I requested......The guy must have thought I was an idiot, cuz he went on about how the video card was the reason that the CD rom wasn't working...I got mad....argued with him about the computer...then when he found out I knew a little something about computers...started changing his story and telling me that the video card was broken and didn't work....I paid...left angrily.... That night, had my buddy reinstall my video card...works like a charm....Fair Warning...FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GET YOUR WORK DONE...AVOID THIS PLACE.... read more

I wish I could give 0 star rating. They messed up my $800 laptop kept on making excuses made me wait for more than 1 month to get my machine back.it was just an issue with keyboard, screen and the hinges. They replaced the keyboard although it doesn't type good byt screen is perfect no doubt about that.but they ended up messing up the biometric system and the sound of the system ,u was told its the issue with all the systems,really? I mean up until I gave it fir repair I didn't have any issues with sound,it has one of the best speakers beats to be precise yet They don't wana acknowledge their fault .imean comeon we are human being mistakes happens we r not perfect but atleast admit that u messed up what the worst I could do? I would genuine understand but they shudnt blame tgat all these machines have issues, so to make up they gave me a earphone piece that can make it work without sounding horrible.so why bother doing that if u didn't mess up? Now the fingerprint scanner don't work at all.and I m so frustrated.the reason I bought that high end laptop was because it had biometrics so I don't have to remember my password now I guess I have no choice but to remember it somehow. I tried uninstalling the biometrics device upgrading the drivers none of them worked. Also without my consent they removed the original windows and installed another version. Pro Computers has saved me hundreds of dollars. When I moved here I took my computer to Staples as a weld had broken preventing my computer from retaining a charge. The Staples store manager suggested that I go to Pro Computers. Don't be put off by the building - when you walk inside you realize quickly that they really know what they are doing! Not only did they fix my computer, I have also purchased a practically brand new laptop from them - one that would have cost me close to $2000 had I purchased it elsewhere. You will find the technicians very, very knowledgeable. They are honest and will tell you straight up what is wrong or if the computer is worth fixing. As long as I am living in Northern VA or the area, Pro Computers will be my 'go-to' store for computers. read more

The techs here are top notch, reliable and know what the hell they're doing. I like them a lot. Recommend this place highly because of them. But... watch who you deal with. The only caveat, and it's been a while since I was in so I don't know if this is still a worry, but for at least a little while they had a guy working the front who was more a salesman than a tech. He liked to push Virus scanning as a solution to everything, even broken fans or hardware issues - he was pretty annoying, I didn't like him. Screw that guy. I guess that's probably the main reason for the mixed reviews for this place - it's a team set up and there are really good techs who are awesome, reliable and cool - and there is at least one guy who's just an asshole. Everyone other than that one guy I ever dealt with there was excellent, knowledgeable and respectful - and despite that one guy, I still give this place five stars as it's hard to find a good place with really smart techs who'll help you and do the work (rather than the geeksquad style "reformat everything / send it back to the manufacturer after charging you a mark up" approach) - not to mention they have decent deals on refurbished machines and such as well. Basically- if you need reliable work, or a cheap but decent used laptop - give them a visit. If you're unlucky and a smarmy guy behind the counter tries to tell you "trust me, it's a virus" or you don't get a good gut feeling off him (he's slimy) - just ignore that jerk and ask to speak to one of the real techs. It's been a while since I've been there, with any luck, they've fired the smarmy guy. Top place, good people, good work.... just make sure you get one of the good guys. read more

This place good if you want a simple fix on your computer. Brought my laptop in to see if I backed everything up correctly on my external hard drive and the technician verified, but also recommended more memory. He gave me a great deal, and was super understanding. Fast forward a couple weeks later I went back to get a new hard drive and they took the time to try to copy everything from my old HD to my new HD. Even though they were unable to do this (due to my old HD having issues), they recommended the best thing to start new. My laptop now works at lightening speed and this is great since I'm a photographer and use a lot of PS and LR. Good little shop if you live in the area and the prices are awesome! read more

When my laptop would not start...I took it in and the owner said he would call me Monday after 4pm. He never called, and I stopped by Tuesday, and he said another day. They kept saying the next day, and the owner was simply rude. I thought it was just to me but every time I went in, he was talking down to the customers. After more than one week, they never called so I went in and it was "fixed". The price was $90 which is very fair, but they never put it back together completely and the keyboard sticks up in the corner. And it won't boot up every time...the reason I had taken it in to begin with! I had since bought a new laptop, and my neighbor has told me he went in with his computer and left after observing how rude the guy was! I will never...ever go in there again. The owner is from another country, and either it's their culture to treat people this way, or it's just this guy, I don't know, but I could never suggest this place. Took one of our computers here last week to be diagnosed. Typical Toshiba black screen...Anyway. I VERY CLEARLY asked the guy behind the counter what the fee would be to DIAGNOSE the issue. He said "no charge". I must have said three times that we just want to know whats wrong with it THEN we would decide if we want it repaired. He said "okay I will call you Mon" That was this past Monday...Monday and Tuesday went by without a call. My boyfriend stopped in there tonight to get the computer back and was told we owe them $170 for the repairs. They had changed a video card (without informing us) and never even called us to tell us when they finished the unauthorized repairs. The guy that gave us our balance was the same EXACT guy that assured me repeatedly they would NOT repair it without our consent. My boyfriend brought that up and the guy just knocked $40 off the total. I have some computer repair experience, but didnt want to tamper with the monitor. the video card would have cost me $40 and my own labor to repair. Went in for a diagnoses and got a forced repair bill. Will never enter this place again. *Updated. When we turned our computer on, we realized that they also broke the keyboard while doing unauthorized repairs. Tried to deny breaking it even though they were the only people to dissassemble this pc. Replaced keyboard after much arguing and several more days of them having our laptop. So glad I was showing homes in the neighborhood and noticed this place! What a find. I've had a broken screen for 6+ months on my new laptop and they were able to fix it in a matter of minutes. Katie was very knowledgeable about Windows 8 complaints and added some helpful fixes to my computer to make it easier to use. It was all so fast and easy I asked about adding more ram which they did and my laptop runs faster than ever. All at a great price. I've been dropping by Pro Computers for a few years now and thought I'd get off my duff and write a review. My latest minor problem was my cd rom drive on my macbook pro. I bought it from a guy on craigslist and didn't check the function of the cdrom. Found out after the sale it wouldn't eject properly (Caveat emptor). So I bought a new one and installed it. And it wouldn't eject properly. The case had a ding on it and I assumed it may shift the cd drive so I ball peened it out, re-assembled it and...no joy. So, I hung my head in shame and, tail between my legs, brought it to the professionals. There was a perfect storm causing this problem including a screw down post that wasn't correct, the misshapen case, and a few other things. The technician treated me like a human being, got the job done in an expeditious manner, and got my baby back to me so I could download some much needed software from a cd rom. She was excellent and everyone there is HONEST and extremely knowledgeable about all things related to computers. I won't share what the charge was, but it was well below the competition's prices and I've always been satisfied with their work. (As an aside, I DID ask how buried they were with projects before dropping it off - I'd be willing to wait a few days or week before dropping it off to minimize my inconvenience and get the short turnaround, which was roughly 36 hrs and they told me "a day or two.") read more

These guys are good. They got me a couple of parts for a legacy server that I couldn't find parts for. The 1st one they got didn't work so they ordered me another. The parts were used which I expected and the 2nd one saved me. We are switching to a more up to date system but we still have a lot of files and history on the old server so it was very important that I get that server back up so all the files could be transferred. There prices are very reasonable and they know what they are doing and will usually tell you upfront what to expect. read more

I have a seven year old computer that needed a new video card. Big stores only stock new stuff, and even the cheap ones wouldn't work for my old system. I needed a store like Pro Computer. I went in and waited for a moment while the owner demonstrated for one customer why he did not need a new video card, just to get rid of the one he had. "How can I help you sir?" "I need an AGP card." "2x, 4x or 6x" "4x is fine" He rummages around and comes back with what turns out to be an nVidia card. "I have too many of these. You can have it for free, but if you need the video adapter I'll have to ask for $12." "Done." "Just install it, and XP should pick it right up." Just like he said, it worked like a champ. This place has by far the worst service I have ever experienced with a computer repair store. You never know what kind of story they are going to create to tell you to keep you bringing back your computer....which adds up to more $$$$$ in their pocket. I took my computer in to have the sound fixed (which they broke when I took it in the first time to have the motherboard replaced), and they told me that my hard drive had crashed and they had to replace the old one and put in a new one.....and they did all this and still did not get my sound working. When the called me in to pick up my computer, they told me that they would have to order speakers. Quite frankly, these people do not know what they are talking about and the little guy in the front is like a deceitful used car salesman! I read some of the previous reviews and was quite surprise about the bad feedback! I just took my laptop in to have the screen replaced as it was damaged in a car accident. I d/o around 1240ish and p/u at 5pm same day; he quoted $160 and it was $160. On top of that, since I had no mode of transportation, I asked a fellow customer who was there purchasing something for a ride the Library down the street, he agreed. Customer was rewarded by the guy behind the counter, by not being charged for the item he needed for his computer!! Now that was very charitable and paying it forward to someone. But I KNEW I needed a new computer......I knew it ...I knew it.True to form, however, I ignored the moans and groans and freezings of my 8 year old PC until my Dell was as slow as a dud. Mistake. I waited on hold FOREVER, and then they told me a service call would run $125.00 to $350.00. WHAT? And that may not resolve the problem. WHAT? I explained that is was an ancient old friend... not worth $125.00 to $350.00. No sympathy...forget them. Sadly, I drove around my usual day, and happened to see Pro Computer on the corner. I peeped in and met Dave. He's awesome. He told me to bring' er in, that the initial look was free. He did all that magic that computer wizards do........ and got my baby running like a youngster! Like a new computer! And totally cheaper than those expensive, souless Geeks. I also learned that Pro Computers sells rebuilt computers, that are totally rehabbed, super cheap.... and that they comlpetely guarantee them. Most of the "old" computers that they resell are less than two years old,and come from businesses that have upgraded. Gently used computers in other words. Pro Computers saved me! I was in a hurry in the morning and ripped my charger off of my laptop and completely ruined my powerjack. Later that afternoon I called Staples to ask if they could fix it for me. They told me no, to fix that problem it will cost anywhere between $300-$500 so I would have to buy a new computer and what they could do is transfer pictures and music onto my new computer... I knew this was crazy talk so I hung up. I decided to give Pro Computers a call since my father has had some of his TVS fixed there. I called and they told me to come right on in. Upon my arrival I was helped by Katie who was just awesome! She let me know what was going to happen and told me she could have it back to me the same day! She called about an hour after I dropped it off to let me know it was ready and that I should also get my screen replaced since it had a bunch of different color lines on it. When I got there she changed the powerjack, screen, got me a new charger and battery! She was absolutely great! I got all of this great service for not even half of what Staples had told me. I've used their service several times, but this is the last time I will EVER give them my business. I dropped off my desktop to have it repaired and they said it would take 2 days. I called in 2 days, in the evening, since they hadn't called me. Asked for a status update. The guy said he can't fix it. When I asked why, he said, "Because you're rushing me." He literally said those words. I didn't act up because they had my computer with my information on it and didn't want them to destroy it. Well, I got my computer... 2 weeks later. There's a dent on the stand (it's an all-in-one), but I think it's cosmetic. And they weren't going to give me the power cord back. WTH?
