LapFix ordered the replacement, only to be sent the wrong product. LapFix re-ordered a correct replacement and charged me over $100 for labor. I came in with a broken Surface Pro 7. It had been damaged & would not start/boot properly. Eric took the system in and sent emails on the results. Unfortunately, after running some diagnostics ($75), the prices offered for repair options were significantly higher than the machine's replacement value. And the data recovery price was still much, much higher. While I respect their attempts in running diagnostics, I can't find in good conscience to recommend them beyond their basic diagnostic services - because we decided the cost for repair was so much higher than anyone other than a business with critical need could consider affordable. I believe they could potentially have done a reasonable job, but thats only based on a few limited interactions, and I suspect their repair costs might scare most hobbyist customers away. However, they were professional, polite, appeared to have a neat store & good inventory tracking system- which is often better than a warehouse computer repair bench facility. read more

Very disappointed by my last experience. Pricing is extremely predatory for repairs and data recovery. I had a laptop that would not turn on due to an issue with the ram, however the hardrive was fine. To recover the data they tried to charge me 500 dollars. This extremely insulting. I ended up doing this myself with a 25 dollar m.2 reader of Amazon and the removal of 6 screws. I implore you to please get multiple quotes. They will not give you a quote until you drop it off and it's behind a 75 dollar diagnostic fee! This would be fine if their prices are competitive but they are not and it's impossible to know until you have been charged if the offer they send you is unacceptable. I bought a very high-end laptop in 2018 that still offers stellar performance for everyday PC tasks. It still works today thanks only to LapFix. We've all been there, right? Just moved halfway around planet Earth from Australia to DC when, jetlagged, you accidentally dump the contents of your Hydroflask (it was water) while watching Back to the Future Part III on Netflix in the middle of the night because you can't sleep. Just me? After letting the computer sit a few days to dry out, wishfully hoping for a recovery. On attempting to start it back up, though, a series of flashing lights and then -- black. Nothing. That was an obvious failure and here I will humbly ask the forgiveness of Yelp and LapFix for this error in judgement. I have learned, I swear. Warning: Do Not Send Your Device for Diagnosis if You Have Performed Memory or Hard Drive Upgrades I found myself in a peculiar situation where I wanted my motherboard inspected and came across a business that turned out to have a policy against working on devices with memory or hard drive upgrades. Despite such upgrades not voiding the manufacturer warranty, this company refused to service my device. When I mentioned this issue to Stuart, he cited their policy: "As per our policy (see line 2 of our terms and conditions on the form you sign before sending in your device): 'I understand LapFix will not work on laptops or hard drives that have been already opened or worked on.' We have this policy to ensure the laptop's condition and to fully repair it with no external issues." He pointed out that screws were missing and shielding was damaged, but both of these issues would be a result of performing the upgrade. I wish this policy had been mentioned in their videos. Save yourself the trouble and pay at your own risk. The vendor was able to determine that my issues were indeed power-related quite easily, which left me perplexed. read more

If I could give a half star, I would. This place is unprofessional, unprincipled, and disreputable. I dropped off an external hard drive, specifically telling the LapFix staff what the problem is and only needed to recover the photos. I asked for a range of costs and they refused to provide it, and agreed to diagnose the problem. When they contacted me later, they said "we can try to recover some of the data for $1,700. When I asked them why is the cost too high, they told me because the machine they use to recover that data had cost them $20,000." So, basically, it came down to overcharging customers to make up for their overpriced machine. When I asked them what diagnosis they performed on the hard drive, they refused to tell me, saying "we did some tests," and also refused to answer when I told them what is the problem. Even so, they held my hard drive hostage and wanted me to pay a $65 "diagnosis fee," which they never mentioned in advance and they never follow up on an email, text, or even phone call. This place overcharges customers. I would never send any work of any kind to LAPFIX again or otherwise utilize any services of this place under any circumstances. I do not recommend this business to anyone since they are not trustable, unprofessional, commit fraud, and completely lie about their 90-day money-back guarantee. Ask them about the receipt they ordered for your device if they mentioned replacing any parts. They substitute components from other devices with those in your device and claim you ordered it from the genuine supplier. They looked at my laptop and informed me that the motherboard needed to be replaced. I agreed with them and gave them the money, but after a few days of use, I found that my laptop was operating very slowly. I returned a few times, but they were unable to fix it. When I questioned them about their 90-day money-back guarantee, they refused to give me my money. When I demanded to see the order confirmation for the motherboard, they gave me illogical excuses. Background: I have been building computers since 1989 and have owned almost every PC compatible computer since 1985 (e.g., PCjr, 286, 386SX, 386DX, 486SX, 486DX, 486DX2, 486DX4, Pentium, Pentium 2, Cyrix 6x86, etc.) However, since I now manage multi-billion dollar programs, I don't have the time to do board-level repairs, thus my experience with LapFix. What happened: I brought in an Alienware Alpha, specifically telling the LapFix staff that I already knew the problem was a blown capacitor on the motherboard and that I wanted them to diagnose the specific capacitor ***because others' proposed fixes of $350 for a new motherboard was too expensive.*** I asked for a range of costs and they refused to provide it, but since they had agreed to diagnose the specific capacitor, I left the machine with them to do the agreed-upon work. When they contacted me later, they texted"we can do a repair for the motherboard for $365 or recover the data for $195," and refused to tell me what the specific problem was. When I came into the store and asked them what diagnosis they performed on the computer, they refused to tell me, saying "we did some tests," and also refused to answer when I asked why they didn't perform the agreed-upon diagnosis. Even so, they held my computer hostage until I paid a $65 "diagnosis fee," and when I got the computer home I couldn't see any screwdriver or other marks which would indicate they had even opened the computer. If the business isn't prepared to do the service asked for, the business should refuse the work, as it is fraudulent and offensive to charge a diagnosis fee when the customer knows more about the problem than the person who "diagnosed" the machine. I also note that in their response to this review, the owner still didn't validate what diagnosis they did. I posted this review on multiple sites without changing the text because the facts of the event did not change. They should be very happy that I didn't do a chargeback; based on the owner's response, that is what I should have done. read more
