Best Mechanic! He was referred to me by at least three different people that aren't related to each other. I drive a BMW 535i Because my car broke down on the freeway and I had to make an emergency exit I couldn't take my car to Max. Instead I had to take it to the nearest auto shop which was Midas in the sports arena area. I left my car at Midas for them to diagnose. I received a call the next day with a diagnostic of what was wrong with my vehicle. $700 later and about a half a mile away from the auto shop that "fixed " my car, it broke down AGAIN in the exact same way it had done so the night before. I called Max and he had an idea of what the problem could be. I got my car towed there this morning and within three hours Max called to let me know my car was ready. What he predicted was correct. Midas replaced two parts (one that was perfectly ok and didn't need to be fixed) but neither that solved the root problem of my car. I own a toyota but still go to max for all my car needs. He's very honest! I once forgot to get my brake pads replaced and ended up destroying my rotors. What I noticed Max do that I'm sure no other car mechanic would do: Before replacing my rotors he first tried saving my them so that I wouldn't have to pay him $350 to get them replaced! Seriously? I highly recommend anybody with car trouble specially if it is a German car to go and see Max at pro master auto. I went there last year and had my car service the price was great very reasonable. They did synthetic German oil on my car which I didn't know much about. But when max told me how beneficial it is on my car and gas mileage I believed him. I could tell after few days. I have been coming here for a couple years now. I found Pro Masters on yelp, and it is very close to my house. I live in the UTC area. I have a Mercedes C class. I have had bad experiences in the past with people trying to oversell me on things that were not necessary for my car. Max is very honest and will tell you if you need something or not. One time I was told from a tire shop that I needed some major work done, and Max checked it out and told me I didn't need anything and to save my money. I had read the positive reviews about this place, so I decided to check it out myself. Max is probably the last honest auto mechanic in San Diego. Thank God for him :) The Mercedes dealer had told me that I needed new engine mounts, two new rear tires, new transmission mount, and a transmission fluid service. They wanted to charge me something like $2700 for the whole thing. I called around - my wife's mechanic (he specializes in Toyotas) knew a friend who worked on Mercedes, so I went with that guy - but he kind of charged rip off prices on the tires, and he actually told me I didn't need to replace the engine mounts. Strange, since my car definitely felt like I needed new engine mounts... I called RB auto, and they wanted to charge me something like $1000 for engine mounts and transmission service. My wife's friend recommended Minsky's auto repairs, but they wanted $470 just for the transmission service alone. Bottom line: Max charged me $320 out the door for the Mercedes transmission service, whereas other guys around town wanted $375, $470, and the dealer wanted $550. He finished the work in 2 hours, and next week, I am going back to him to get the engine mounts done, since he is at least $200 cheaper than anyone else. His honest reputation precedes him, so I don't need to tell you what a great job he does. Trust is key in any relationship - he has me recommending him to all my friends already. read more

My boyfriend went and got a quote to get his brakes fixed at a place that exclusively fixes brakes etc. and they quoted him $200. So he went and bought the part ($15) he thought he needed for his back brakes, so he could attempt to fix the problem hisself. My dad, who takes all if his cars to Promasters, offered to pay for the fix as long as my boyfriend took his car to Promasters. So we set up the appointment for the next Saturday at 8am. Come to find out the other place was trying to do a bunch of stuff to my boyfriends car just to be able to charge him an arm and a leg for the job. Promasters didn't even need to use the part that my boyfriend bought, which he ended up returning, and was able to get his brakes back to perfect working order for less then $75. We love Promasters and will never take our cars anywhere else. read more

Max is a really great person to work with and an honest shop owner. My serpentine belt broke on my trip to SD. At a first glance it looked like I would also need to replace the tentioner which would be a more expensive repair. However after doing some work Max was able to find that only the belts needed replacing and did not charge me for the unnecessary repairs. Since he knew I wasn't from sd and needed my car he also prioritized work on my car so I could be on my way sooner. He is highly recommended and I would bring my car again. Best Mechanic out there by far! I would never go anywhere else! You can trust that he wouldn't do any work that does not need to be done. First of all, don't buy a 2003 Audi, but if you did and you need it fixed than Max is your guy! Or any car for that matter (I took my Audi and Honda). You wouldn't believe me if I told you how many times my Audi had broken down since January. I went to six different mechanics.. yep, SIX! Based on where I broke down and referrals. When I was towed into ProMasters that's where my search for a mechanic stopped. Max definitely has me as a life long customer now. Not only did he charge me a fraction of the price I paid for the same work somewhere else (boulevard automotive - don't' go there!) he explained everything and was very upfront about the part costs and what needed to be done and what didn't. He even stayed late while he had his ADORABLE daughter with him so I could have my car dropped off! I sold the Audi since the car and I were both on the verge of another breakdown at this point. I bought a Honda from a private party and noticed the steering was bad. My bad car luck had followed me to the "Honda's run forever" new car! And it stopped with Max. He went above and beyond to help me keep the cost down and fix the problem. He not only kept my car over the weekend in order to try a few more times to save just the power steering pump but he searched out another pump during the weekend for so much cheaper and saved the day! Finally, I've found a trustworthy and reliable mechanic for my VW! It's seriously been years since I've had someone that does a quality job on my '97 Golf. Max is exactly the type of guy you want working on your car. Simply put, he fixes the problem that you came in with. I've been to several mechanics that like to trouble shoot with your credit card, resulting in multiple visits, a ridiculous bill, and hardly ever with the issue being solved. I brought my 2007 Toyota Camry to Max to diagnose a check engine light error code for the transmission. Previously, I have taken my car to another place and they wanted to charge me $2300 to rebuild the transmission. It turns out that my car only needed a new Power Control Module (PCM) and no transmission work was needed. Max replaced the PCM, changed the transmission oil and did a smog check on my car for less than half the cost that I was originally quoted by the other place. In addition, after the repair job was completed, Max personally test drove my car to Rancho Bernardo. All in all, my car was only in the shop for 1+ day. I am extremely impressed with Max and Pro Masters Auto. As others have stated, Max is very honest, professional, fast and accommodating. We've been doing business with Max for a number of years at this time. We met him because we needed to have a problem fixed quickly and the dealership had a 2 week waiting period. He prooved to be very knowledgeable and courteous. He fixed our problem right away, for significantly less than the dealership. I found Pro Masters Auto when I had to get a smog test for the DMV. It's a small auto repair shop that specializes in European cars. After talking w/ the owner (forgot his name and he may come off as being intimidating) he rubbed off as an honest, down to earth guy (Definitely hard to find in an auto mechanic). He has also worked at Mercedes and BMW dealers as a mechanic for seven years. Ever since then I have brought my car to get my brakes fixed. San Diego BMW was going to charge $1500+ to get f/r rotors, f/r pads and rear calipers replaced, while Pro Masters only charged $970 using OEM parts. For standard jobs like this, I will defintely go back to Pro Masters. Not sure how good of job he does on working w/ engines, a/c and electricals. read more

Update 6/7/08: I was in a rush when I first wrote this. Here's what I actually had done at ProMasters: Front and rear rotors and front brakes on a Mercedes ML using all Mercedes parts. Including labor it cost me about $670. This typically runs me $900-something dollars at the Mercedes dealership. Keep in mind that I have a friend there who gives me varying discounts, so Max may have saved me even more than this (as compared to the full price). _______ I was led here by the reviews on Yelp and they didn't let me down. Max seems like an honest and friendly guy and Michelle is super helpful as well. I had a great experience here! I got a smog check and an oil change and they showed me things going on with my car and should concern for things that would not done properly prior. Often times being a woman and getting your car worked on can be a headache because shops try to take advantage (not knowing that this woman worked at a smog shop for 4 years and a transmission shop for 2 years) of lack of knowledge in this arena. Honest and reliability are very important when choosing a mechanic. Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to forgo the over priced Service B for our MB C300 and try ProMasters. I called and spoke to Max and he was helpful and up front with the pricing. He answered all my questions and was very thorough. I made an appt and my wife dropped the car off in the morning and it was ready for pickup within a few hours. I followed up the next day with a phone call to confirm what work was actually performed other than the oil and filter, as it was not listed on the paperwork. He explained everything that was done and was happy to answer all of my questions. All I can suggest is that they add a checklist to the final paperwork to let the customer know what was actually done. read more

Max is the best mechanic I have ever known. I have been going to him for 15 years and 3 cars. He has rebuilt my front end from two major accidents and always done fast and excellent work.
