This quiet, humble man and his team run one of the best shops in San Diego County. John was referred to me by another mechanic when I was in need of an engine replacement for my Honda Minivan. This was a big job and I was nervous about the outcome because I didn't know John. The price was very fair. Less than a week later, I received a message that my van was ready for pickup. My wife and I were pleased with the smoothness of our van and to have all of the problems we had with the old engine gone. It has now been a year or close to a year since the engine replacement. Since then John has serviced all of our vehicles. We have been pleased with every job he has done for us and especially appreciate his integrity that allows us to contact him if we detect anything wrong with the repair. We've never had to contact him, but pleased with knowing he takes full responsibility for his repairs. For the last month, I've been driving my Toyota Avalon around scorching hot San Diego with no air conditioning. I took it to a nearby Honda service center only because they were closer to where I live. They quoted me over $1900 to replace the compressor and some other parts. This included labor. I brought my Toyota Avalon to John last night not expecting him to do anything until the next day. That same night, John texted me the fantastic news that he didn't believe my car needed a compressor, but was in desperate need of freon. John wanted to keep it overnight to see if he could detect any leaks. This morning, John contacted me to pick up my car! For the first time in over a month, my car felt like the North Pole. I came here at the recommendation of many local people who lived in the surrounding communities (Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch). I took a chance and texted the number provided and also messaged on Facebook. It did take a couple of prompting messages, but eventually John got back to me and he was very nice in corresponding. I needed to get brakes replaced for a 2022 Lexus GX. It was to the point where the breaks are squeezing and I was concerned driving with kids in the car. John told me to stop by so he can assess and when I did, he was very honest and told me that I only needed to replace the front brakes and the rear breaks were still good. He ordered the brakes (only a day) and I was able to drop off my car early (leaving keys on a secured and locked bin). He was done with my car within a couple hours. I was amazed on how quick, friendly, and easy the entire process was. John was very honest and personable. He is very experienced and shares his space with a neighboring business so his overhead keeps his prices very fair and reasonable. Needed to repair/replace a bad head gasket for a 2014 Prius Plug-In with 200,000+ miles after taking it to the dealership and getting quoted for $5K repair. Asked around online and no one else was willing to do the job due to the high mileage. Spoke to John online/text and ended up deciding to replace the engine altogether with a JDM engine at almost half the cost. Completed the job in a timely manner despite seemingly being a one-man shop. This was in May 2024. Wanted to wait some time to see how it went before leaving a review. I needed to find someone to do all the complicated stuff I don't want to do myself (AC compressor, steering rack, front wheel bearings, etc.). I've called and compared a dozen shops around San Diego and no one beats John's service, honestly, and price! He's a busy guy and might not get back to you instantly so you may have to be persistent to get an appointment but I promise it's worth it. Long story short: I found out i had a bad alternator during a battery replacement with triple A and was panicking since one of my worst fears is getting stuck in the middle of the highway.
