In my part of Utah County you get horrible speeds with the phone company or pretty fast download,…read morebut horrible upload with the cable company. Plus, they charge an arm and a leg for it. Utopia finally came to the neighborhood and I could not be happier. They installed quickly, and the service has been flawless so far. There is a large selection of ISPs available, but most of them are suspect in my mind. XMission is the only one with a total usage cap. However, even as a heavy user I've not hit it. By having the cap, it's easier to handle people who abuse the bandwidth setting up spam servers or torrent servers. They are also the only one meeting state of the art security standards like SOC2. Back to Utopia. It just works. I have 250Mbs up and down. That allows me to do full backups of my home to the Cloud. I could never do that with the pitiful upload speed the competition has. Plus it's far cheaper.

What concerns me is that no one contacted me beforehand, left a notice, knocked on my door, or otherwise informed me that work would be taking place on my property frontage. I had seen crews working across the street to provide service to new neighbors, but I had no idea that work would also affect my yard. When I spoke with the workers, I was told this is the only access box on the street and that if additional neighbors request UTOPIA service in the future, similar work may need to be done again. In addition, the work area has obstructed access along the sidewalk. We have small children in the neighborhood who regularly ride their bikes, scooters, and play along this route. Today, the excavation and equipment created an unexpected obstacle and safety concern for children and pedestrians using the sidewalk. As a homeowner, I believe residents deserve advance notification when construction or excavation will impact their property, even if it is within a utility easement. A simple notice would have allowed neighbors to plan accordingly and be aware of any temporary disruptions or safety concerns. I would appreciate an explanation of the notification process, what steps will be taken to restore the area, and whether residents can expect additional disruptions in the future if other homeowners request UTOPIA service. In addition to the pictures from this afternoon... I have posted a picture of what utopia could do in the future to protect homeowners and children and community people from getting hurt Thank you for your attention to this matter.

My History with Xmission ( and why I couldn't wait to come back ):…read more I had a DSL connection - 25+ years ago. I had to leave them when Cable became mainstream sadly. I am VERY happy to say that even after 20+ years, after coming back to get their High Speed Fiber. I had 1GB at first. I upgraded to the 2GB because of the awesome price. Once I decided to take the leap, it was super easy. I contact them, they helped move my connection from my existing cable provider no problem. I also enrolled in their phone service they recommended. Super painless port over process. Call quality has never had an issue. It took a couple weeks to get it installed which is more on the Local Fiber company and their schedule since it is contracted out for that work. So about a 2 week installation time. ( This was when it was barley available in my area ). Their Service: I was surprised to contact their support and recognize the names of the people I was talking to that had been there over 20 years ago. This is why I went back to them. Xmission seems to take great care of it's employees and it is greatly reflected in customer service. All questions I have ever had they are super educated on and can either speak the "Tech Talk" or make it more dumbed down to help less tech savvy people. Speed: At first I got the 1GB Connection - Tested 980/980 on Speedtest, can't say I could ask for more. Then when available I got the 2GB line. Tested PERFECT to spec. Had NO issues. Just make sure you have the hardware to not be limited by their speeds whether that is your Router or or Computer hardware. All over I can give them a very very strong recommendation for people.

xMission sales rep solicited at our door, despite "No Soliciting" sign. Shoulda stuck to our guns,…read morebut we decided to get fiber thru them. We bought the routers the salesman suggested. They didn't work. We bought higher grade routers as a result. They offered no real improvement over our wireless provider home internet (which is half the price of fiber). The streaming would freeze regularly and speeds seemed no faster than cellular network. Customer service is true to all other reviews. They seemed to care less about our business or helping us, so we canceled within a week. Wish I would've read reviews here before I went with this company.

I was having trouble with getting my elderly V.A uncle used to where his channels were at (we get so many more than DISH! and channels we actually watch). I lost my paperwork and couldn't find the number for NewStar and just searched for the DirecTv number online. I called into DiredTv wanting some help with figuring out what to do and I could barely understand the agent on the line (language barrier) and they basically said they would have to send a technician out to me and it would cost me $40-$99. I declined, because I just don't have the money for that. Thought I was just stuck and very dissapointed. One week later I got a follow up call from NewStar just to see how I was liking my New DirecTv sytem. Let me say I am pretty embarrassed at how I treated the young lady on the phone. I vented and was very upset and she didn't interrupt me even once! She listen ACTUALLY LISTENED. Then she fixed it all right over the phone, I didn't even need a technician and that saved me time and money right there! She went through step by step with my uncle of making a favorites list and with the protection plan I had got from them they were able to send me out a remote that fit my uncles needs even better, for free ($15 plus shipping if I didn't have that protection plan). Remote got to us in 2 days and they had already setup a favorites list with my uncle and he was happier than he had ever been in his 80 years of different tv services (he is now deceased). I wish I had the name of that young lady and I hope she sees this review. To that agent if you do see this review I want to thank you and apologize again for how poorly I treated you on the phone. The main thing I have learned through this experience is to go through a authorized dealer for anything I can! Even when I didn't know it they had my back, THANK YOU New Star!!!!!

The "Greeter" today who I believe is named Jason (Long hair, beard and mustache.... ) I can't say was. I came in to pay my bill and Jason basically didn't even say Hello. The girl in the back did welcome me and asked if I needed help. Advised I just was using the kiosk and she let me know to check in with her if I needed anything. I tried the kiosk a few times but it kept telling me I didn't have an account. I went up to the front desk and asked Jason if I could pay and he asked "Did you put your Area code in." Yes. Of course. He walked me back and put my number in for me. "Is this the number you use for Comcast." It's my only number, so yes... and at this point he was sounding a bit condescending. He asked if I had my account number which since I was just popping in after going to run some errands, no I did not. He told me he'd check me in and have someone help me. Now since I had come in, two other people had entered the store. One was being helped by the girl who had greeted me. Great I thought, since my two dogs were in the car and this was already taking more time than I liked, given that.... The girl who came in after me was helped.... so I went to talk to Jason again. I mentioned I had been there first and he just told me I had to wait my turn. But I was here first, I mentioned again, and he got surly and told me to wait my turn. At this point I asked for a manager due to his attitude and tone (Note: I've got an HR and Training background and usually sit with new reps in my office to help them understand "Soft Skills," or how to interact with customers). He said they weren't there. I asked for a card. He couldn't find one and said he needed to check these other people in before he could be bothered with me. Now one man was at the desk, so I do understand that and he had several devices.... but he then made me wait while he checked the other guy who had showed up in. He also made the point to say "The Manger KNOW ME VERY Well" as if whatever I had to say wasn't important or my experience wasn't important because the manager was his buddy. At this point I went back to a newly free rep and asked for the Manager's card. I also paid my bill. Jason then came up while I was talking to the other rep. gave me the card and continued to argue with me and tell me I needed to act like a "Reasonable human being." I'm not sure when a reasonable human being comes up to a customer and continues to berate them, but maybe I missed something in all my years on the planet. Honestly, it's not like Comcast is the only or best show in town, especially when I only have internet with them. They've already let someone order three iphone on my account from them, back east no less, and that was a mess of hoops to jump through. And though this store usually is good (though honestly I've only gone in to pay my bill or once when I was thinking about jumping cell phone plans and they could smell money on me).... I think it's Time for Google Fiber.

Today, I had three Comcast technicians come to my door because they needed access to a pole that was behind my property - not on my property. Again, I am not a Comcast customer. I told them that I did not have a key to the fence that would allow them to access the pole. I told them that they needed to contact the golf course, or they needed to find another way to access the pole. This technicians ignored me and came onto my property without permission. I have three dogs, and my dogs were unsecured and could've escaped my yard. These technicians also broke a fence even more that had already been broken, leaving it unsecured. They entered my yard, placing their ladder in a precarious position, risking their own safety and putting me in a difficult situation when it comes to my homeowners insurance. They did not provide evidence of an easement where they would be able to access the utility pole. I have all of these interactions recorded on my security cameras. I tried contacting Comcast, but the contact links were either broken or sent me directly to speak with a robot. I had to come into this store to talk with a real human, and they were super helpful. While I will never have Comcast as a provider because of the terrible technicians and the horrible online customer service, this store is doing the best that they can and the employees are truly there to help people in need.
