I had a really wonderful experience with Dr. Cohen and Dr. Chu at ProActive even amidst the difficulties of COVID. Everything at the office was very safe and sanitary every visit with social distancing between patients and temperature checks at the door. I'm not a big review writer, but I feel obligated to share how wonderful Dr. Chu and Dr. Cohen have been for me over the years. I started coming to ProActive in early 2017 because of general aches and pains due to my job (I sit at a desk for a big part of the day). Throughout the years I've transitioned to see mostly Dr. Chu and I can't tell you how much she's helped me. After a car accident and some other minor incidents, I started to have a variety of back issues which culminated in very crooked walking and barely being able to take 3 steps without a massive muscle spasm. Dr. Chu got me through it and I have been walking upright and spasm free for almost a year. Treatment isn't always pleasant (I'm convinced Dr. Chu could beat the crap out of most men I know) but I always leave feeling great. I can't imagine going anywhere else for chiropractic care. If you're just looking for somebody to crack your back and shove you out the door until next week, then ProActive is likely not your jam. I've had several visits with Dr. Noah during the last year, and every time I see the depth of his knowledge of the human body, his passion for his work, and his attention to detail. During my visits she beats me up real good using chiropractic combat techniques, some resembling martial arts while others mimic Hollywood's contemporary style. I could taste hints of Steven Seagal, an aroma of military basic training, and a long after taste of Muay Thai. I've had a reoccurring upper back injury that's aggravated when running. I have been seeing Dr Andrea Schilling for the last few months, and what I thought were chronic pain issues I would have for the rest of my life are resolving. The process is amazing, Dr Andrea is the sweetest person, and I am pain-free for the first time in nearly a year. Recent events have made me a patient for life. Recently, I was in a car accident, and I suffered a minor concussion. I was scared, dizzy, lightheaded, confused, and in pain. Dr Andrea gave me adjustments so that my body could recover, which put less stress on my injured brain. She gave me specific self-care instructions so that I could rest and take care of my concussion, which were more detailed and helpful than any doctor I've been to for other head injuries. She also helped me calm down, and helped me understand my injury. She lowered the lights so it wouldn't hurt my eyes. She scheduled a follow-up phone call with me on her own time, so that she could make sure that I was safe to go back to work. The last concussion I suffered before my recent car accident, it took me months to recover, and it seemed like nobody understood or cared. Especially not the health professionals in charge of my case. This time, my body was pain-free within one week, and my concussion symptoms basically disappeared. And someone was there to support me and cheer for me as I recovered. It was an amazing experience. If you've had a concussion or head injury, especially a recent one, go get chiropractic from someone who has worked with concussion sufferers before. Dr Cohen is one of the luckiest choices I have ever made. I have the unfortunate combo of being a huge clutz and loving to get into crazy adventures. Because of this I am constantly hurting myself and always seem to be in pain for some reason or another. This past April I outdid myself at a trampolining party and hurt my back so badly that the weight of a jacket or purse was painful and walking was just too jarring. I waited for a week and I felt no better. I was paranoid that I had a pinched nerve or slipped disc or something equally drastic. I went to Dr. Cohen for the initial visit, in total pain and with an uncharacteristically unhappy demeanor. He was just so positive, approachable and knowledgeable that I almost immediately felt comfortable. Dr. Cohen determined that the top and bottom of my spine were both out of alignment which was causing something like a twist in the middle (where the pain was) and adjusted both areas and told me not to carry anything for the next week. Literally the next day I felt better, and three days later I hardly felt a thing. I have continued to see Dr. Cohen every couple of weeks, at first mainly working on my back, but then on my general physical well-being. He has helped reduce my number of migraines, given me exercises that improve my posture, prescribed new orthotic insoles which should improve a lot of my postural issues and have allowed me to run again (one of my clutzier moves gave me a foot injury that had made running too painful) and generally made me feel like a whole new person. Not only has Dr. Cohen helped me in a chiropractic sense, he is great in so many other ways. He understands that I want to have fun and do things in my own scatterbrained fashion, so he never discourages my adventures (quite the opposite) or scolds me for forgetting my posture exercises. He works with me to make my physical health the best it can be for the life I want to lead. His sense-of-humor is awesome and he always remembers everything we talk about. One session I told him about a website design project I was doing that I was very excited about. Two sessions later he asked me if it was up yet and asked if he could see it. I am still hurting myself all the time, from flipping over the front of my bike, burlesque dancing, rope-swinging, backpacking, and more assorted silliness, but I know that any pains I have will virtually disappear after a visit to Dr. Cohen, plus he is helping me reduce my clutziness so I won't hurt myself in the first place! My mom used to tell me to stop slouching all the time. Then, I started running and no one told me (until 300 miles later) that I had to wear the correct running shoes for my feet, because otherwise that can affect your back/posture/whole body. Who thought running would be so complicated? Then I had a really awful desk job, where I was confined to my cubicle for like 10 hours a day. Suffice to say, my back has been kind of shot for the past few years. It made me feel reeeally old. I had a chiropractor that I liked, but he moved away, so I was left with his replacement, who I was totally not a fan of. So I looked around for another one, and this next one, while he was really great, ran his practice like it was some sort of factory: there were at least 3 people that he saw at the same time, but they'd be on different devices getting their back stretched or rolled while he attended to the next person. One of my requirements for finding a good chiro is that he/she can also play therapist to my daily woes, which he totally does (along with Vince, the best office manager ever). The only thing I wanted to invest my knowledge of what chiropractic care was, was in the cracking, adjusting, popping, and treatments alike. Though Dr. Cohen is not one to immediately alleviate your issue because he believes in the holistic approach to care of your body and mind--as he will inform you they work together and sometimes we forget that what the mind knows the body reacts and feels--you will begin to see definite changes soon. For myself, it was a pulled back that I could hardly walk, get up and even go to the bathroom with. By later that evening, I was able to move, something unimaginable hours before. Dr. Cohen is quite knowledgeable, tries to figure out which points of your body are telling other points they are not working correctly, asks questions of your health, lifestyle, eating and sleeping habits, et cetera. Not many individuals in the world of health care are this in-tune and desire to know their patient. With an easing painless pull, a stretch, or; some rubberband style tests to identify your issues within a relaxing environment coupled with a relaxed professional, educated, and kind demeanor of Dr. Cohen. About 2 years ago, I was admitted to the hospital for excruciating muscle spasms in my lower back. I was hospitalized for a couple of hours, prescribed Vicodin and Lorazepam and sent on my way, racking up a hefty bill in the process. After a week of barely being human due to the heavy meds, the pain finally subsided and I went on with regular life. Needless to say, after that experience I was convinced that treating back problems with pain killers wasn't the answer. Fast forward 2 years, I'm galavanting around the city on a beautiful sunny day, I get out my my Taxi and BOOOOM, bye bye back. What better way to spend a Saturday than with some excruciating muscle spasms. I don't know what the cause was, but I couldn't even stand up. Luckily I'm able to stumble to a chair, call my friend and have her take me home. The next 48 hours consisted of me curled up in a ball on my couch in excruciating pain telling God to F*** off, and I don't even believe in big guy above. I was reading a book on weightlifting at the time (Beyond Brawn) and it recommended consulting a Chiropractor specializing in Sports Medicine before starting a program. Dr. Cohen is my favorite. I'm not the type that likes to just go have my back and neck cracked and call it a day. I actually am freaked out by all that cracking, but that's not what he does at all (and has alternative solutions if you don't want to be cracked all over). I've been going to Dr. Cohen for over a year and he's helped me tremendously with my shoulder pain and teeth grinding. He really analyzes your overall body and explains to you how something in your hip could in fact be adding to pain in other parts of the body. He also doesn't push me to visit him frequently, he gives me exercises that I'm supposed to do at home (though have yet to do them!) to help out with my issues. He doesn't focus just on your issues but talks to you about overall health (diet, shoes, how I carry my purse, etc). I also love that he has online scheduling / re-scheduling so I can make or change appointments whenever I want, rather than having to call during work hours. Today I had my very first chiropractic appointment EVER, and I just have to say that Dr. Cohen did an incredible job of helping me feel comfortable and educated about everything related to my balance, muscles, joints, and the adjustments that he did.
