I went in to see Dr Cohen for computer-related injuries - you know, the sort you accumulate as a result of punching a few too many numbers into a few too many spreadsheets for a few too many years of your life. I'm not going to pretend to understand exactly what Dr Cohen does or the science behind it, but over the course of treatment I went from pain and discomfort to feeling healthy and whole. I would wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone looking to alleviate physical pain... and if I wasn't leaving the city, I'd probably continue seeing him for a tune-up every month or two. read more

As a RN I'm vigilant regarding my health, and cautious whom I let manipulate my body. I recently was run off the road on my bicycle by a vehicle. Grade 3 concussion, 6 broken teeth, fractured maxilla, severe lacerations...very very very sore neck and back (wear your helmet, kids). After a session with Andrew, I had IMMEDIATE improvements in range of motion and pain levels. Andrew's approach is multifaceted and you see results from progressing technique to technique. Like many of the reviewers here, I had the same "how did he do that?" response after my first visit a year ago to Dr. Cohen. And then my wife had the same response yesterday after her first visit. I've been seeing chiropractors for many years to treat back issues... this isn't your average chiropractor. Every session is like a 50,000 mile check-up on your car, running through your joints, your muscles, your spine, head to toe to see what's running well and what isn't. The book calls it applied kinesiology, I call it the best 30 minutes I've ever spent with any doctor. Example 1... I hurt my shoulder years ago playing hockey. MRIs were negative then and I've lived for years with some weakness there. Dr. Cohen had me hold my arm up in different positions while he pressed down, identifying the source of the weakness. Then he had me put a single finger on a point on my collarbone and magically the strength was back in my shoulder. He explained the path neurons take from your nervous system to make your muscles fire on cue and showed why my shoulder wasn't responding like I wanted. A simple adjustment and I was able to hold the strength without keeping my finger on my chest (which would have been a highly inconvenient solution) Example 2... You know that feeling when you're walking and something doesn't feel right, like your hips or your joints are out of whack? Dr. Cohen ran me through a series of tests, including tapping the bottom of my feet to simulate walking, and localized the point of the imbalance. Sometimes it's a hip adjustment, sometimes it's quick massage with a fancy power massager, sometimes it's an adjustment of my ankles. He gets your body working the way it should. Last note... my wife's wrists have been killing her for years. Something about raising four kids blah blah blah :) Dr. Cohen adjusted her wrists yesterday, but also ran through the whole body to show how it works together and an imbalance in one area can affect you in a whole different part of your body. I don't think I could find the right words to describe how much of a lifesaver Andrew is. I'm a professional dancer and well it's my oxygen and passion in life. I injured myself end of last year and I went to the Sports doctor and his diagnosis was that I injured my hamstring. Went to physical therapy for 2 months and I was still hurting. I was miserable; I stopped dancing for months! And that's when a coworker of mine referred Andrew to me. First, Vince welcomes you with a smile, a great energy and he's so funny too! +20 already in my points book. Then, Andrew... Best listener, professional, caring and honest person ever. His goal is to not have you coming back to his office as quickly as possible. And on top of it, he likes to be given a hard time and being challenged :) +50! His diagnosis was quickly different from my previous one. I've apparently hurt my lower back which impacted my hamstring. After my first session I was sold. I learned so much about my body and how a nerve in my neck, closing one eye or putting a finger on a precise spot can impact my leg or my strength. Ya, really... I was already feeling better after the very first session. I'm now fully recovered and back at dancing after a few weeks and in less time that I wasted in physical therapy. I'm kind of sad because that means I won't see those two (Andrew and Vince) as often as I used to :) I told my boyfriend to go. He broke his back 3 years ago and has had a sciatica since as long as he can remember. He was hopeless and in pain. He is on the road of recovery and feeling SO MUCH better after 4 sessions. THIS PLACE IS MAGIC! DR. COHEN IS MY HERO! I went to ProActive back in January for an injury I sustained during cross training/training for Dragon Boat World Championships. I freaked out. I was in pain & was operating at 40%. My elbow was zinging & pinging & aching & hurting & pissing me off. And time was a tickin... If I did not get better and be at 100% I would have lost my spot on the boat. This man is a magician. I've started having pretty bad back pain, which I tried treating with massage treatments, but the pain quickly developed into an excruciating neck cramp. My neck was cramping (just like a charlie horse in your leg) sometimes several times per minute, over the course of a week - it was absolutely terrible. I began to think that it was something a lot more serious, like a nervous system disorder - I was scared and frustrated, and taking both Percocet and Valium, which didn't help. Then I went to see Dr. Cohen. I was a bit terrified at the thought of someone going in and cracking my spine in a hundred places, but Dr. Cohen is totally different; he's more about Kinesiology, which until now was pretty foreign to me. He clearly cares deeply about his patients and what he does - he was gentle with his evaluation of my condition, talked through everything that he did, and made a massive improvement in my pain level. My pain level during my first visit was around a 9 (out of 10), at the start of my second visit, I was around a 6, after my third, I'm almost totally without pain (about a 1), and feel actually like I have more range of motion in my neck than before the injury. It's incredible. Dr. Cohen is super available, super smart and great at what he does, and perhaps the best doctor relationship I've ever found. read more

I was in town for a day and had a problem with my back. I look around and called ProActive to make an appointment. They were nice enough to accommodate me same day but when I asked the cost, they said they had a $300 first appointment fee. They also do not take insurance (which is somewhat ok if the first appointment fee was not so large). I told them I was not a long term patient and asked them for a regular appointment fee and they said that they could not for "liability reasons." That did not make sense so I ended up finding another great chiropractor that could see me the same day, only charged $95, and took insurance. So they get dinged for charging too much and not being flexible. read more

The practitioners here are incredible and I've had an awesome experience! I had never been comfortable with anyone doing adjustments on me in the past but both Dr. C and Nancy have always made me feel really comfortable through the whole process and never pushed beyond my comfort level. As a mom with a one year old and a three year old I'm constantly throwing my body out of whack but my sessions here have helped restore my physical health by leaps and bounds. Dr. Andrew Cohen's practice is a small private clinic hidden in an office building downtown. It is entirely his practice; the total staff appear to be himself and Vince, his fearless and highly entertaining assistant. I was recommended his services by a local masseuse. I had a very painful back; a recurring issue for me, being 6' 5'' tall with a job that involves a great deal of aeroplane flights. On this occasion, a nasty snowboarding fall had left me unable to actually tie my own shoes. Dr Cohen's technique is to assess your entire body's muscles based on the relative strength of the muscle pairs around the body. In other words, if one arm is stronger than the other, that indicates a stressed and not properly responsive muscle. The internal muscle structure of the body is constantly working to keep you upright and able to live your life, so non-responsive muscles get increasingly stressed. As a result, over time, one's internal muscles start to fight each other, causing pain. (Dr Cohen - please forgive the outrageous amateur hour of the above explanation!) Dr Cohen identifies those fighting muscles and makes minor chiropractic adjustments (minor, at least, by the standards of the 2-3 chiropractors I have seen) to relax them. The Big Trick is that rather than focusing on the area of pain, he takes a holistic view of the entire body. For my back pain, he adjusted my neck, leg and foot --- and voila, the pain in my back went away. It was frankly miraculous - I went home with 90% of my mobility back and just a sense of soreness. His first session is an hour long and consists of a total body assessment. This is quite fascinating and done with very clear explanations all the way through. His follow-on sessions are 20 minutes and made up of increasingly subtle adjustments to keep your muscles working they way they should be. For me, follow up sessions began weekly but after 5 visits, have moved to monthly. I highly recommend this man if you have physical pain. It is a pleasure to visit him and the results were immediate. I have dropped down to a visit every 1-2 months, partly as I remain fascinated by his technique, and I look forward to continuing to work with him. read more

Dr. Andrew Cohen is an amazing! I sprained my ankle and had been hobbling around for weeks. I wasn't sure why my foot was still in pain but I knew I couldn't walk far and I was about to go to Italy in 5 days. I had never gone to a chiropractor's office before but Yelpers seemed to like him and he was close by. I walked into Dr. Cohen's office and told him about my hurt foot and that it needed to survive a brutal 14 hour flight and a week of intense walking. I also told him I bought a cane for backup but I'd rather not have to use it. He did some stress tests which were pretty gentle and showed me how the body can be reset and lazy muscles activated. Plus he said I could leave my cane at home! By the end of that first session, my foot was feeling 90% better and I was walking without a limp. I saw him 3 days later, just to make sure everything was still good for my trip. My foot was still doing great with a little bit of soreness but he was able to make it feel even better on that 2nd visit! I flew to Italy and walked around everywhere and flew back and I didn't have any trouble with my ankle thanks to Dr. Cohen. Dr Cohen has worked wonders for my body. I'm an avid cyclist and generally active gym goer. I also have a young (and heavy) daughter to carry around so needless to say I have chronic back and muscle stiffness. Dr cohens approach is very sports centric and geared towards the active person. Magician is an understatement when I refer to Dr. Cohen. Being an ex ski racer and having seen many chiropractors throughout my life, he is by far the best. His chiropractic style is very different and sports like. He does all these different tests all over you. For example, he will have you put your arms up and then shift your eyes in different directions. This tells his how your body is working in different ways. One day I was telling him I was having so much pain when I was running and he ended up adjusting my jaw muscle. I ran 8 miles shortly that afternoon with no pain. I highly recommend him. He gives you a plan in order to get you better. You can choose to continue to go to him but he will get you to 100%. Through going to see him I learned my orthotics I was using were not working for my body. He have improved my overall health so much. I had acne on my face and he gave me a vitamin to help it. My face is now almost completely clear. Everything he recommends and does it for your well being. He is also a great guy, so positive, energetic and knowledgeable. You will never want to go to another chiropractor again after seeing him. He is beyond amazing and I cannot express my gratitude to him for helping me get better and for continuously making sure my body is at it's best! read more

Dr. Cohen is truly a miracle worker. I've had a chronic rib injury for years and have seen multiple doctors (sports therapists, G.I. Doctors, trainers, etc.) and he is the only doctor that cared to be as invested in healing my injury as I have. Go and see Dr. Cohen-- that simple! Fortunately, I was directed to Dr. Cohen by one of his former patients who, like me, had a longstanding sports injury to his knee. Because I've been dealing with a bum knee for almost 15 years, of course I thought the idea of ridding myself of the pain was ridiculous-- especially, after visiting more than 10 traditional doctors and trying numerous medications and therapies. But, I thought, " What do I have to lose?" Either I'll be the guy with a cane at 50 or perhaps the tales of Dr. Cohen somehow working magic on a bad knee to the point of no pain in only a few sessions might actually be true. After my first visit, I have to say that I'm now a true believer! Not only is his knowledge of the human body off the charts, his methodology is to NOT have you return multiple times for treatment and get back to the "good life" as soon as possible. Crazy, huh??
