We have been using this mechanic for a couple of years now and have always been happy with Jon and his work. We own a Kia Soul and a Volkswagen EOS. Jon has a knack for knowing what's up with our vehicles off the smallest clue which is pretty cool. My Kia had an ongoing issue that stumped a few other mechanics and he immediately knew what the issue was and fixed it. He's also proven to be honest with what our vehicles need and what maintenance/repairs can wait. Prices are very fair and Jon will go through an itemized list of every cost of repair over the phone with you before doing any work. Our vehicles are always done on time and a loaner is provided when needed which is convenient. I really hate doing this but it's gotta be done. I called Jon to get my car diagnosed & get an estimate. He was able to look at my car that day & diagnose it & give me an estimate within an hour. Cool, so I ok'd the work. He wanted to wait until he got a check so it took me 1 week to get him a check for over $900. About a week and a half after that I had a bit of difficulty getting ahold of Jon so get an update on my car but I did eventually get ahold of him and he gave me an estimate for when my car would be ready. Those days passed & I didn't get my car back when he said I'd have it back by. 3 weeks after he got my car & 2 weeks after he was basically paid in full I told him if my car was not done that day then I wanted to cancel the oil change & wiper blades replacement (he didn't cancel it & charged me more than what he told me). He offered me a loaner vehicle so I waked 2 miles to pick up the loaner vehicle & it was a nice gesture but the van was pretty dirty even having rubbish in it & the gas light was already on like it was past E. So then I finally got a call 4 weeks & 4 days after he got my vehicle & 3 weeks after he was paid over $900 saying my car was ready. I gave him his van back with more gas then he gave me. My driver side door had a big scuff on it which he wiped off with a rag. He charged me for the oil change & wiper blades that I told him I was canceling $57. He told me the wiper blades were $8 each but charged me $10.99 each. And on the way home I got grease all over my hands because he didn't bother wiping off the steering wheel. I asked him why it took so long & he said he wasn't busy when he got my car but then got slammed after he was basically paid in full. He was paid & had my car for 3 more weeks after being paid over $900 so I guess paying in advance doesn't make it a priority. Other than that Jon seems like a nice guy but idk if I'd use him again. Their motto is "home if the honest mechanic" but I didn't find him to be upfront about it having to take so long or why it took so long & I got no apology for it taking more than 4 weeks or no thank you for my patience. Honestly I think he messed something up & it took him a lot more time to fix his mistake but who knows. What I do know is I've never had a mechanic hold my car for 1 week let alone 4 freaking weeks! When I got my car back that they were unable to repair, I had water damage inside so bad because of my sunroof being open. You would think an auto shop could close a sunroof. After having another mechanic look at it, I'm missing all kind of parts from my Saab engine. Now it's a complete loss. read more

Great experience with Jon and Professional Auto Care. Some people lease new cars every couple of years and others hang onto them for as long as they can. We tend toward the latter and as a result have higher mileage cars with issues that crop up from time to time. Jon's been great about advising us what needs to be dealt with for safety or comfort reasons and what might wait for another day (good luck finding that level of candor at any of the chain auto repair places). We've been very happy with the quality of work and particularly appreciate that they hooked us up with a loaner car when a more complicated job was going to take a few days. First time bringing my car here. Jon is the absolute best of the best. I've had three or four different mechanics look at my car (with 480,000) miles, none of whom could fix the issue. I had an appointment for 9am, but my car wouldn't start to get it in. He had it towed for me, was able to guess the problem immediately then ran the engine code (something the auto mechanics had trouble doing), and he result was the same as his guess! Jon started diagnosing my car immediately upon arrival. He gave me the keys to one of his vehicles to go out, and if the parts don't arrive until later, gave me permission to take the car this evening! I've NEVER had such wonderful service. He was polite, treated me (a woman) with respect, explaining what was happening as though I were a mechanic in training. Just all around wonderful. I recently relocated to Rochester, NY and was referred to Professional Auto Care by an acquaintance. They definitely had a tough act to follow. My old mechanic in my hometown was a family friend, so I trusted him to do quality work at a fair price. Not being a "car guy" I always dread having to bring my car in (even for simple routine maintenance kind of stuff). I'm the kind of person who likes to research something before I buy, so I decided to poke around the web for reviews. I have to admit I was a little disheartened by some of the reviews I read. Their Google review score was pretty good and the customer testimonials on their website (www.pro-autocare.com) also had a lot of nice things to say, but their Yelp score was pretty lackluster and a webpage for another auto-repair place near my house called Craig Autometrics (apparently closed since 12/1/13) accused them of "predatory advertising" (whatever that means). Still, being relatively new to the area, I decided to trust my friend and bring my car to Professional Auto Care. I'm glad I listened because I ended up really happy with my experience. Their waiting room was clean, comfortable and even had wi-fi access. The turn around time was quick, and the guy at the front desk (service manager?) even took the time to go over my invoice with me line by line to explain the work performed. As far as the price, I actually ran the charges by my old mechanic back home, and he told me considering the work performed and the parts used I got a really good deal. Also, apparently the parts and labor are covered by a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty - which, again, for someone who isn't a "car guy", that kind of warranty gives me real peace of mind. So as some of you may have read my last experience which was my first time at Professional Auto Care wasn't to great. However, after it happened the manager (not sure if he was a manager?) at the time reached out wanting to make amends. I obliged and a few months later I had an issue with my heat and as it has been below 0 degrees most days lately I called them to see if we could get it looked at quickly. I actually spoke with the owner that day and he got my car in his shop as quickly as was convenient with my schedule. The day I took the car in the owner was there with another manager and they greeted me very kindly and wanted to make sure that I was a satisfied customer. Bob and his team took their time that Friday afternoon to make sure that the issue with my heat was not only figured out but that it was accurately diagnosed. It took them most of the day Friday but they were able to get it fixed and guarantee their work and labor for three years, meaning that it my heat doesn't work again in that time, they take care of it free of charge. That is QUALITY. Not only that but if I needed one, a loaner vehicle could have been offered if I needed a vehicle while mine was being fixed. Again... that is QUALITY. Most shops these days rip you off for every penny they can and 7/10 times they don't even address the issue you brought the car in for. When I left the shop with my vehicle I will admit that I was put off at first by the "diagnostic fee" (not that the shop was going to charge me that due to my last experience) because I had never heard of such a thing. I couldn't understand the point of charging someone $39.95 to see what's wrong with it and then charging to fix the issue. I had never heard of a shop charging for an estimate. So I was a little upset about it but because that fee had been waived I just ignored it. A couple days ago Bob, the owner, sent me a message and asked how my experience was and really just took the time to listen to my issues and to my comments relating to the experience and he talked me through it. He explained that his shop does charge a small fee to diagnose but that also guarantees that the issue they find is exactly what's wrong with the vehicle and upon fixing the problem, he guarantees the fix and the labor. He explained that most shops don't charge for an estimate but that when they come back with an outrageous amount to fix that issue, you are most certainly paying for that diagnosis in that charge. Bob went out of his way to make sure that I understood his philosophy within his shop and to make sure I am a happy customer. His kindness, his compassion and the fact that he reached out to make sure I either come back or that I am at least satisfied is reason enough to make me a customer for a long time. :-) Professional auto care took great care of me and my car and they are reasonably priced. I took my wife's car there when she needed to have an intermediate pipe replaced on her car. I had brought all the parts with me so Jon was kind enough to use the parts that I purchased. However after having the vehicle for almost an entire week the day I picked it up there was a rubbing noise. I had to bring the vehicle back to have Jon check the rubbing sound. He explained that the pipe had shifted so he moved it back into place and the vehicle seemed fine. Not only a week later while my wife was heading home I received the "dreaded call" of the wife on the side of the road. The vehicle was towed back to Jon and it was determined that the wheel bearing had seized also sheering the CV shaft. So 2 more days with the vehicle at the shop. Now driving home again after picking the vehicle up and I heard a noise so loud I thought someone had shot a gun inside the car. So off to the side of the road I went. When I looked at the vehicle to try to determine what was wrong I noticed that the spindle which had been worked on by Jon was all sorts of banged up. This is a aluminum piece and honestly probably should not have been put back on the vehicle. So the car was towed back again where Jon had to replace damaged parts that were damaged during the first repair of the pipe installation. Now the vehicle is having the exact same rubbing issue as before however I cannot take the wheel off because low and behold the wheel lock key is missing. After 2 phone calls with no call back I am a little frustrated. Also to learn that when the car was picked up I did an oil change only once again to discover that there were plastic skid pieces from under the vehicle missing and a half ass bolt put in place to secure the front skid plate which I had to go to Lowes and buy one that would actually fit in the speed nut. I feel that I have given an ample amount of opportunity for the issues to be corrected and quite frankly I wish I had never taken my vehicle there to begin with.
