I have been a long time customer of the former owners, Tom and Annette Basset. Recently I brought my vehicle in for service and was notified that Bassets is now under new management, and the company was sold in the beginning part of 2015.
My vehicle needed some service so I thought I would give the new owners a shot. The first time I brought my vehicle in it was for a tachometer problem. The service team looked my vehicle over and said they noticed an oil leak (which I was aware of already). Other than the leak they couldn't find anything wrong with it. A few months later I brought my vehicle in for front brakes. They had communicated to me that their prices were the same as Tom Bassets, but I found that the brake job cost more. I didn't question it, but when they got into the job they said that my vehicle needed a new caliper pin as they had bent the old one trying to take it out. I asked how much more and they said it would be an additional $42 dollars on top of the higher price that they had already quoted me.
When I came to pick up the car I asked to see the pin, the mechanic brought it out and I inspected it and it had a very mild bend in it that at first glance was hard to detect. I asked him if he replaced the other pin as well, and he told me "no"...so I paid $42 for just one new pin. He then told me I was lucky because he shouldn't have spent an hour trying to take the pin out and really should have sold me a full pair of calipers.
Over the holiday weekend my oil light came on so I added some oil to my engine. When I opened my oil cap (the same oil cap I have been opening for 14 years as I change my own oil), I immediately noticed that someone had removed the velvety oil filter screen that protects my engine from debris. The part was missing, the only thing there was a large silver scratch mark on the metal resevoir that made a snaking "s" shape to show someone had used a screw driver or another sharp object to take it out.
I have just returned from Bassets and have talked to the new owner, Scott. I explained the situation to him and let him know that the only people that have been under my hood was myself on 3/11/15 to do my standard oil change, and his technicians on 4/23 and just last week on 5/18 for the brake repair. Obviously I wouldn't have been the one to take the oil filter screen out. I admit it takes longer to add your oil, but it does what it is intended for (to keep debris from the engine). Apparently their technicians didn't feel the same way and they removed it.
I am very disappointed in the new owners, as I gave Scott a chance to rectify the situation and instead he played the "your word against my word" game. I will not be returning there for service. read more
