I stumbled upon this salon and I think it was a mixture of good timing and good luck. I was just looking for lunch when I saw this business. Hair stylist, Val, luckily had an open chair at that moment. This was in 2013 and I haven't stopped going to her since then. I live in Hackensack and willingly make the 1.5 hour round trip to see her. For reference, I have waist length, extremely thick and an insane amount of hair. Thank you to my Peruvian and Palestinian parents! Val is the only hair stylist who knows how to handle my hair. I have attempted other hair stylists and instantly regretted it. Don't ever get your hair done here, especially by VAL. One of her co-workers recommended her for my hair. I went in one night to speak to Val and told her I wanted my hair half up, half down and to put in my clip-in extensions and curl my hair. She quoted me 85.00 and I made the appt. The day of my appt. I went in and when I told her I wanted three twist in the front (as the half up), I could tell she wasn't comfortable doing it. Another words she didn't know how to. So she tried to talk me out of that by saying twisties are for little kids. She said she can do a loose braid, so I said ok. Well she did a french braid down the middle of the top of my head and curled my hair and extensions tight (when I told her I wanted loose curls). She didn't style it by teasing it to blend the curls with the top. I looked like I had a landing strip on top of my head. It looked absolutely horrible!! I just wanted to get out of there so I can fix my hair. I go up to pay and the lady up front (who was the owner) tells me it's $100.00 and I said she quoted me $85.00. She said, oh you have to talk to her. So I said, Val you quoted me $85.00 and she said, that was just to put the extentions in and curls. She said you didn't tell me you wanted it half up/half down. I said, what? She is a liar, she knew exactly what I wanted the night she gave me the quote which was a few days before. Half up/half down, extensions put in with curls. First off if she was going to charge me more, she should have told me before doing my hair. Second, since she didn't, the owner should have honored the quote she gave me of $85.00. Poor service all around!! I would never go back here or ever recommend this place. Beware, you will be ripped off!!! P.S. Hair salon in the mall so I wasn't really expecting much. I called to let them know I was coming, but they still had to go out into the mall to find the stylist when I got there. I needed a trim, bad. Stuck without a car for the day, I walked over from my building on my lunch break. It was a quick shampoo and cut. When I told the stylist what I wanted - just cut off the damaged part, straight across no layers or anything - she told me that was the hair cut of a little kid. She would shape my hair, regardless of what I asked for. Fine, whatever. I had to walk back so I told her not to bother styling it or drying it. Terrible. Don't even waste your time or money here ! There is a reason these stylists work in a mall and not a high end salon. Absolute garbage the water when washing my hair was freezing cold, I asked the women who did my hair to blow dry it with light waves she used a curling iron and gave me tight curls that made me look 40 years old and like a had a bob and the worst part is is that I came in for a blow out and they charged me $65 for that!! I couldn't believe it. I literally went home and washed my hair and did it myself because it was that bad. If you're gonna be a crapy salon at least be cheap so people aren't throwing their money in the garbage. I don't even pay that much for a blow out at my 5 star hair salon in Montclair that I usually go to but couldn't because they were all booked ! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE TRUST ME. read more

I loved how my hair came out! It was the perfect haircut, and my blow out was beautiful. The stylist was very fast and gentle. I felt so beautiful when I walked out. Only complaint would have to be unprofessional behavior. There seemed to be some tension between employees in the back where the sinks for washing hair were. Been going here for years but this will be my last time. Was told $30 for a wash,cut and blow. I wanted curls but was told it wouldn't look good ( didn't ask for anyone's opinion on what they thought would look good when I'm paying for a service). Everyone there was full of such negativity that it was draining. I was told multiple times how bad my hair was, how brassy the color is and asked how much I paid for it "cuz you get what you pay for" So rude! I got there a little late (Called and let them know) the lady said that she was going to miss her eyelash appointment because of me being late and asked if she could get them done real quick, in the middle of cutting my hair! Exact words " while you're waiting, can you just blow dry your hair cuz it's really wet" After this lady left to do her eyelashes and came back 15 minutes later, I had already dried my hair, she quickly ran a brush through it, told me not to straighten it and had the audacity to charge me $60! On top of that, she called the lady who washed my hair and insisted that I give her a good tip "because she washed my hair so good". It's honestly ridiculous and I will never be coming back. I have recently moved to NJ and was cautious on where to get my hair done as I had my hair done in NY for 13 years. I looked on yelp and saw this salon where there was both good and bad reviews but I saw more good than bad. I went to get my hair done and it was a big mistake, now I totally agree with the bad reviews. I got nothing close to what i had shown the stylist to color my hair. It was basically one base color with red highlights but instead I got like brownish/reddish hair. Totally disappointed and plus to get charged $240 to color my hair all wrong. Don't go. I went for highlights and I've got damaged hair now that is straggly white blonde with ugly orange streaks. Beatriz is a pleasant person but a terrible hairdresser, especially with bleach. She did my highlights really badly with ugly bright orange streaks from not bleaching enough, then threw color on top of them to make them less orange, which made them slightly less orange and the rest of my highlights a dead looking white. I've had good highlights from other places, and there is no reason for a bad job like this. She just doesn't know what she is doing. This place charges more than other places in the mall that do a good job. I now have damaged ugly colored hair that she offered to correct for free, by putting MORE bleach on it and damaging it more. He is a master barber, and his personable nature makes me look forward to visiting him for a haircut every 4 to 6 weeks.
