A few years ago, one of my pets needed a medication that I had to have compounded. I am so grateful that I was referred to Professional Village Compounding Pharmacy. Since that first referral I have been regularly getting medicine for one of my pets there, and have even requested another pet's prescriptions be sent over to them. The staff and pharmacists are exactly who you want on your side when you are dealing with the complexities of medicating pets. And what is cool about this pharmacy is that they don't just cater to pets, but they compound for humans AND animals. After my experiences with them, I would definitely request prescriptions for myself, or my family, to be sent to them, too! They have gone above and beyond, to help me get the right type, and quantity, of medication for my pets. And because of that professionalism and care, I will continue to go to them for my guys' compounding needs. For some context: for years, I had tried to use pills for my guys. I'd give them whole pills, placed them in edible pockets, crushed them up, mixed them in with wet food and broths -- it didn't matter. It was ALWAYS a hassle. And while yes compounded medication will cost a little more than buying tablets directly from the vets. Remember: you are paying for a professionally made solution, designed to taste appetizing for your pet (if given orally) or to be easily administered externally (transdermal). The price is nothing compared to avoiding the likelihood of unintentionally traumatizing your pet, and yourself, when you try to do it on your own. Make it easier on them and on you, it is worth paying a little bit now to save everyone on the chaos in the long-term. And if you have a pet that has a chronic condition, you're going to want to make medicine-time as smooth as possible, because it's going to be a regular part of having them in your life. I have been patronizing this pharmacy for over a year now and the staff are always professional,knowledgeable,and friendly. I have an elderly dog who basically is on doggy hospice. Lately, he has been needing more medication and I ran out sooner than I was accustomed to. When I called in the refill, I had forgotten they were closed Sunday! I have an extremely smart elderly cat who is impossible to pill. The vet prescribed him with an appetite stimulant, which was working great until he figured out the pill pockets. Desperate to keep him eating, I reached out to Professional Village on a Thursday afternoon about getting a compounded version of his medication. Barbara, John and the whole Staff I have spoken with have been outstanding in communication with what they could do for our compounding needs, giving us options and getting it ready in an extremely pleasing timely manner. I really like that they have hours of operation on Saturday and helped work with our Doctor on getting prescriptions for suggestions they made to give us a longer shelf life with the medication. This pharmacy can compound prescriptions for pets into liquid form to dispense to pets much more easily. I've used them for years for my small dog. Recently the pharmacist caught an error in dosage and saved my dog from perhaps serious results. Btw, please make note of your pets weight for pharmacy records! This is what I love about Professional Village Pharmacy. As I walked in today, one of the employees was putting out a vase of fresh flowers. I'm able to order refills on the Pocket RX app, which is soooo easy and quick. I can arrange for my prescription to be delivered as well via Pocket RX. The waiting area is pleasant and has HGTV on the beautiful flat screen television. It's a local, family owned business, where people recognize you and genuinely greet you by name. Despite dispensing drugs that have dubious health benefits (the hippie in me restrains from that last star), the pharmacy is like an old apothecary shop. With potions and pills galore, pharmacists actually make the medications they dispense. Customer service is excellent. Staff make conversation, and seem to enjoy working here. Also, there are all kinds of home health products. As baby boomers age, they need shtuff. The upside? Stock up on icepacks and catheters while you're picking up those pills. read more

This is going to sound weird but I love this place. It has charm and it's remain unchanged despite the times. This pharmacy does what it does best and to hell with modern society. I've had to come here numerous times for my son's medications. They are the only ones nearby (or the only ones my son's doctor trusts but we won't tell anyone) that compounds medication. My son's medication was for his heart surgery and he was only 3 months at the time. I've been back numerous times after that time. This pharmacy was the only pharmacy to have the special diaper rash cream my son's doctor recommended. Normal commercial pharmacies don't carry it. This pharmacy had 3 on hand. Guess what? I bought all three. They were able to quickly restock after a couple of days. They were able to save me when my son's supplies for his colostomy didn't get delivered after numerous attempts on my end and my son's doctor's end to get the supplies. They had the supplies on hand and I was able to buy some just to hold us off until the shipment arrived. They've saved my behind so many times and I'm appreciative. Some of the workers are a little dry and may seem unfriendly but they are good at what they do. I'd rather have that than anything else. This is the absolute worst pharmacy I have ever dealt with. They apparently were having issues getting my daughter's seizure medication approved by my insurance and didn't bother to call me to get it sorted out. After waiting 5 days, I called and was informed of the issue. I was able to get the issue resolved with insurance within minutes of finding out there was a problem. The pharmacy then proceeds to call me back and tell me they can't even fill the prescription because they can't get the active ingredient. Not sure why they didn't know this prior to giving me the run around to have it approved. Extremely disappointing and would not recommend this pharmacy at all. Would give zero stars if possible. read more

Came into buy Tegaderm Film. Noticed they sell them for $4.50 each. My son has a difficult Ostomy/wound and uses TF quite often. The Pharmacist was very nice. I wanted to buy a box but all he had was what's on the shelf which was missing 9 out of 50. He gave me this "Song and dance" about the price $225.00 for a box. I was at the mercy of this Pharmacy because he is the only place in Sacramento that sells these products. He adjusted the price for the "Low Price" of $175. What I should've done was just buy a couple of them and then looked on line. My son found EXACTLY the same product 4 boxes for the low price of $60. It makes me wonder how many older customers that come in and trust this pharmacy and I know that if customers new that a lot of medical products you can find on line at a much cheaper price!!!!! Of course he's not gonna suggest this he would lose customers!!!! I will always check on line for my son's items. I will NEVER EVER purchase anymore medical items from this Pharmacist!!!! This is a special place. Okay, I know, I'm prejudiced. I've worked here since 1985. But it's easy for a pharmacist to get a better-paying job elsewhere, and there are special reasons why I stay... First of all, this is an independent community pharmacy, a somewhat endangered species, in this location, largely unchanged, since 1959. But we're also the largest, most experienced compounding pharmacy in Sacramento: not only can we fill the typical prescriptions, but we also make custom medicines from scratch. Like customized hormone combinations, or heavy-duty topical pain gels, anti-nausea gels for hospices patients, and anti-thyroid gels that can be rubbed into a cat's ear. I'm solving different problems every day--problems that might leave a regular pharmacist stumped. I never get bored. And at what other pharmacy could I work, and have patients tell me regularly, "You've changed my life" and "I can't believe how much better this works" and the one from last week, a doctor's wife: "I feel better than I can remember feeling in years"? It's a nice boost to the ol' self esteem, let me tell you. ;-) We're not perfect, mind you. The custom meds take time, sometimes longer than we'd like (we ask for a week; average is 2-3 days). We take most, but not all, insurance. And, very occasionally, we have to turn a prescription away due to sheer economics: if the medicine costs $400 a bottle, we never use it, you need $30 worth for just one time, and the rest will expire on our shelf...well, maybe a corporation can afford to do that; we can't. But we'll do everything possible to make sure you get what you need, one way or another. We accept most insurance, and have shipping options available. Insurance would not cover one of my friend's medications. We called several pharmacies in the Arden-Arcade area looking for the lowest cash price for the prescription. We expected this small, independent pharmacy to be the most expensive and called them last. We were stunned to find that they were the least expensive by far ( 1/4 the price at WalMart) and less than half the price of the next least expensive quote. They were 10 times less expensive than the highest quote. We were also pleasantly shocked by the small town service ( think Mayberry). The pharmacist on duty had a PhD but came out from behind the counter to help an elderly woman shop. Another employee sat with an elderly man and patiently helped him with his prescription and insurance issues. Complications with our own order were handled quickly and effectively. Wow! What a fantastic experience I would of never expected from a pharmacy. I was truly amazed that a place like this still exists in our fast pace society. I phoned first and was taken aback I didn't have to listen to a voice recording telling me to press 9 buttons to get a real person. The pharmacy tech answered the phone right away and was very helpful and friendly. I wish I had gotten her name and she greeted me at the counter when I arrived and took care of my out of state prescription right away. I barely had to wait very long and admired how the staff took their time to help the elderly customers. A small town pharmacy in the middle of a busy part of town was such a relaxing relief. Then to find out that they had an extremely fair and lowest price around. I was so relieved and was able to get a prescription that I couldn't of afforded at the 6 other pharmacies I tried. Family owned pharmacies are kind of like travel agents and local stores- they're getting wiped out by Wal-mart and Target so it's one of those services you use or you lose. I needed something specially made for my daughter and my Rite Aid referred me to them. They were so nice and helpful that I switched over my prescriptions to Village Pharmacy, even though they didn't need to be compounded. They'll order anything for me and one time something had to be rushed (which I think cost them money but don't know for sure) and they were really nice about it and I didn't have to pay extra. read more
