The added bonus is the professional of the staff. They are very patient when you are trying to find just the right frame. A few times, I have wanted a particular color and they looked online to see if it was offered in a different color. I made a new patient appointment to have a stye treated, and I was scheduled with Dr. Le. This was my first experience with a stye, never having one before. Well, Dr. Le was rude, condescending, arrogant and insulting. She repeated herself over and over and spoke to me like I was a child she was 100% annoyed with. Dr. Le was rude, condescending, arrogant and insulting. See how I repeated that Dr. Le? I regret going to them in a time of need and will never return. She gave me the prescriptions I needed, but that is her ethical duty. Her bedside manner is horrible. For all of your eye care needs, go elsewhere. I booked my appointment a YEAR ago for Saturday, 5/17. On last Saturday, 5/10/2025, I received a text to confirm my appointment, which I did promptly. On 5/15 in the day I received a phone call telling me that my appointment was cancelled and to call them "if I wanted to reschedule". Since i don't have access to my phone during the day I didn't get the message til the evening. Then at 4:49pm on Thursday, I get a text saying they will see me on Saturday. So, I thought maybe the phone call was a mistake. On Friday, at 4:11pm, I get another text saying they will see me on Saturday for my appointment. When I arrive 15 minutes EARLY for my appointment, I am told my appointment was cancelled due to no doctors being on site. Really? You couldn't give me ATLEAST one week of notice AND when I mentioned about the texts and showed them to the staff. I was told they are automatic, and they don't know how to work them. All they could do is reschedule me for an appointment 3 months AFTER this appointment that has already been scheduled for a YEAR! and offer an apology for wasting my time, gas and being inconvenienced. The office manager of this location has NO clue how to run this office! I have been a customer of Professional Vision for over 40 YEARS and this is the BEST they can do? PLEASE Fire the office manager as they have no clue what they are doing as this is now the THIRD time I have had problems with this business. "As a licensed M.D. and well recognized medicolegal expert who has reviewed medical treatment cases from around the country and for the Maryland State Medical Board, it is my opinion that optometrist Richard Barnstein at The Timonium Location not only violated the standard of care but is unethical, arrogant and insulting. He did my eye exam and gave me a prescription. I had the prescription filled elsewhere since I couldn't find suitable frames in his office.. When I received my glasses, my near vision was fine but mid and far vision were very blurry. I sent the glasses back and the optician who made the glasses said they were made per Dr. Barnstein's prescription. I visited another optometrist who verified the glasses were made according to Barnstein's request and that his prescription was "way off." In fact he stated that "this prescription does not make any sense". I got a new prescription from the new optometrist which I filled and I had excellent vision. I revisited Dr. Barnstein and repeatedly asked him "Why are the prescriptions so radically different?"He repeatedly responded "I don't know why they're different!" I said, "Are you kidding. Very simply you messed up". He took NO responsibility for his obvious error. His office manager offered me a refund of $120 (the eye exam fee) which I refused. I told her I was looking for an explanation as to how this obvious error occurred causing me several months of poor vision. As a surgeon, I require excellent vision. THEY said they were not responsible for the cost of the two sets of lenses that I had made even though they admitted they were made to HIS exact specifications. I didn't even ask for a refund. I WANTED AN EXPLANATION and an apology.Deny, Deny, Deny is one of the worst things a Doctor can do when he or she makes a mistake. Real Doctors step up, admit they made an error and fix it. I am pushing 50 and have going to the Ellicott City location since I was 13 year s old and had vision so bad that I was crashing my bike into cars in Columbia when I was 13 years old. They gave me the best frames and best lenses. Now I had Lasik in 2019 and they manage the cheapest reading glasses imaginable. I referred my husband to them as well as his reading is very good, and they give him really high end frames for virtual reading glasses. read more

Needed a last minute eye exam they set me up for appointment right away. When I first walked into the office, they were very welcoming. They took me back right way, very professional. The office was very clean. The doctor was very nice. The reason why only 4 stars was the eyeglass selection. Not that great and pricey with insurance. They tried to charge me $$250 for glasses, I know my I insurance. My ray ban were $40 after insurance with transitions. I will return for eye exam, but not eyeglass frames, to pricey. read more

My vision insurance changed, and so for the first time in pretty much my whole life, I needed a new eye doctor. I guess I didn't know what I was missing! From the initial call, which I made to verify they accepted my insurance, until the end, the service was outstanding. As soon as I made the appointment, I got an email confirmation, and then, to remind me of the appointment -- a text! Nice touch. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendly staff who checked me in and made me feel comfortable. Then, I went into the back for the preliminary tests and I loved how each was explained along the way. As another reviewer pointed out, they are very up front about costs here, and that is always appreciated. For example, when they were going over the dilation options, it was explained that one option, which is more convenient, is not covered by my insurance, and would be an additional charge. It is great to have all the options up front so you can make an informed decision that is right for you. After that, almost immediately, I saw Dr. Barnstein. He was incredibly friendly and personable. It's so important to find a doctor who doesn't make you feel rush and who truly makes you feel like they are invested in your care. After the birth of my first child, I was worried that my vision had taken a turn for the worst, but he made me feel like things weren't too bad after all! He also examined my current glasses and explained to me how Professional Vision could probably come up with something better for me. I was really there for contacts, though, since my insurance only covers either glasses or contacts each year -- and once I said that, there was no sales pitch. HOWEVER, they had soon many cute frames that I will most likely be back to get a new pair soon. The "check out" process was great, too. I worked with Nancy, who made sure I was getting a good price on my contacts and looked into my insurance plan to make sure I was using up my benefits in time. As crazy as it sounds, before I came to professional vision, I paid out-of-pocket for my eye exams because I didn't want to switch away from the doctor I'd been with for so long. I'm glad I got outside my comfort zone and found a new place to take care of my eyes! It's a pretty awesome full-service place.. so check it out! Based on the reviews, I thought this was a good place to purchase my glasses. I spent a lot of money on my glasses and soon after one of the lenses started to crack on the top. I took it back a few months after. It took 2 weeks to replace the lens and they charged me $25.00 for the repair. I would thought the warranty would covered the cost to replace it since it started cracking after I purchased them. I work far away and don't have much time. It was an inconvenience to drop them off and not having my glasses for 2 weeks. They staff didn't care and would not work with me so I would not recommend them. read more

No complaints with the optometrist. My issue is with the insurance fraud. The glasses (frames) I looked at gave an MSRP of $525.00 My insurance allows $150 for frames and 20% off the balance. So, $525.00 less the $150 leaves a balance of $375. Deduct 20% and $375 becomes $300. I was quoted $600 for the frames - effectively negating the 20% discount my insurance provides. On a hunch, my friend went in the next day with no insurance - and was quoted $525 for the very same frame. For me, I like the Dr. but given the inconsistent pricing, I will have a hard time purchasing my glasses here, when there are so many other places to choose from. Oh, and on a whim, I called elsewhere and was quoted $495 for the same frame. read more

Just got glasses for the first time last year and am seeing Dr. Brannan here. She is super nice and I feel totally comfortable with her and all of the staff here. The atmosphere is also great. Went again yesterday for my second ever eye exam and they just got a new state-of-the-art piece of equipment that is supposed to give you an HD lens prescription... I wanna see in HD! It is supposed to give you a more precise prescription, but of course the Dr. has to still give you an exam. They offered another exam from another huge machine, but she told me it was not covered by my insurance and would be an additional $30... I definitely said no, but I am very happy that they gave me the option AND told me how much it would cost me. I hate when Drs. nickle and dime you. I like how they are on top of the new technology, I definitely recommend this place. Only complaint is they definitely have it worked in to their exam schedule to have you look over their lenses to get you to buy from them. I looked while I was waiting for the Dr. the first time, then they told me to go look at them mid-exam... umm no? I told her straight up I wasn't buying any, I don't think they are used to that. read more

I have been frequenting Professional Vision since I was a child (I started out at the Ellicott City location) and moved to the Towson location as an adult. My parents still utilize the Ellicott City location. Dr. Setren still has records of my vision testing from when I was a teenager. I was very pleased at their new location, very close to my home with plenty of free parking. I have severe nearsightedness which seems to excite the optometrists treating me along with astigmatism. They refer to myself and my father as some of the patients with the most challenging vision problems. They have state of the art machines that nearly pinpoint the type of lenses I need. Then the optometrist spends time checking out which lenses to prescribe. The staff are helpful and always select nice frames. They talked me out of buying Coach frames (my mother has a pair) and recommended KLiiK frames, which are more durable. My mother has very mild farsightedness so she does not require sturdy frames. The optometrists keep themselves up to date with the most comfortable and durable contact lenses. They give "goody bags" of free contact cleaning kits after each contact lenses purchase. The costs are higher than chain vision centers. However, when I tried to save money by visiting chain centers, the optometrists messed up my prescription which caused severe headaches and caused my vision to worsen further. I had to return to Professional Vision to get my prescription fixed, causing an attempt to save money into more money spent and weeks of headaches and poor vision. read more

Dr Andreaggi is fantastic. My first experience with Professional Vision was as emergency - despite not being a current patient of theirs, the receptionists had me come over right away. Dr Andreaggi could not have been kinder and reassuring despite me being pretty uncomfortable and scared, and he even followed up with me to make sure I was doing better after being seen. Since then I've seen Dr Andreaggi several times for routine exams, and he is always thorough, patient and kind. Additionally, everyone I interact with at this location is always so professional and friendly. I will only be going to Professional Vision from now on! read more

The staff at Professional Vision are very professional and courteous. It is very easy to set an appointment and the appointments do not have to be scheduled way in advance. I rarely have any wait time when I show up for my appointments which means the staff makes it a priority to stick to their scheduled appointment times. Dr. Barnstein has been my eye doctor for several years now and unless I relocate I don't plan on changing that. The contacts I wear work great for me and I have astigmatism so it's not always easy to find the perfect contacts. I would highly recommend Dr. Barnstein. read more

I moved to Baltimore 2 years ago but hadn't found a new eye doctor in the area until this week. After reading such great reviews on Yelp I decided to make an appointment with Professional Vision. I walked in and was greeted immediately by the staff. I was taken into the back room for preliminary testing before seeing the doctor. The staff was really great about explaining each step and what I would be doing next. When it was time to see Dr.Setren I was shown to his office which doubled as an exam room. I found it really strange to have my vision tested while large photos of families hung on the wall. Also, there were multiple tests done to learn about my vision and in between each test I was asked to go back to the waiting area and sit. I was not a fan of this. I was asked to move around at least 6 or 7 times in a 45 minute period. Why couldn't I have just stayed in the exam chair each time? Dr.Setren was great and recommended products based on my needs. I appreciated that he took the time to explain why he was suggesting certain products. Overall, the experience was good and I enjoyed the staff more than anything! read more

The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful and that's where the Professionalism ended. The doctor, Dick, started to argue with me because I was wearing a cap of a football team that he told me he didn't particularly like and continued to degrade their players for the next 15 minutes. I should've walked out, the only reason I didn't was to get new lenses in my frames and select another pair of glasses. Finally, I got my exam and proceeded to the young lady to select a frame and get measurements for the replacement lenses. I couldn't find a frame I liked and FaceTimed with my wife to get her help. At one point the helper,T, asked somewhat sarcastically, "is she an optician?" I settled on just getting new lenses in my frames. I picked up my glasses this past Saturday, just 3 days short of a month from my visit. One of the lenses feels like it's ready to pop out when I clean the glasses, a lot of crackling noise. The cost of two lenses in my frames were a whopping $934.00!! My advice, steer clear of this business! Very unprofessional service from the optometrist, long wait for product and grossly overpriced! read more

This place is the worst. I went in for an eye exam and a new pair of glasses. The eye exam went great. But the glasses not so much. They sent the glasses to another place to get the lenses made and fitted, and they said it would take 10 days. It's now been one month, and they still have not sent my glasses. On top of that, I paid for anti-reflective coating, and instead of giving me the anti-reflective coating that I paid for, they are giving me some other type of coating. DO NOT GO HERE. They say it takes 10 days to get your new glasses, but plan on waiting for at least a month. This is just unacceptable I am extremely unhappy with their service. read more

I am not one to post negative comments to those who know me and always try to help others but Professional Vision next to Giant in Timonium is not a place I recommend. We have lived here for about 30 years and thought you might want to know how they treat people. They seemed nice when I was there and gave me a price for an eye exam as the lenses were almost twice what others charged so I just got the exam as they told me insurance would pay it in full with no balance...then after the exam, billed me another $60 plus dollars afterward. I called and talked to the manager who said she would not take the money off and I was mistaken that it would be paid in full. I know the truth and was specific in my question, so that is all I need. BTW, a basic eye exam was billed at $195.00. Check around, this is also extremely high for a basic exam with dilation and nothing extra. I also asked if I did not have insurance what was the cost, surprise, it was actually $90 less than what they billed and got paid more from the insurance and they want me to pay even more than what a person paying cash would pay. Not how we should patronize businesses who decide that are not truthful and try to overbill insurance and then try to get even more after they tell you something. Very sad and will be telling ALL my friends about this negative experience as well as our community FB pages that people reference local businesses to trust. I hope this does help the next person when they make a choice as to what local companies to give their money to for services. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

I can't say enough about how great my experience with professional vision in Timonium is every time I go. Everyone from the desk staff to the doctors to the people who fit you for glasses are friendly and professional. My prescription is accurate every time, and my glasses/lenses come fast! There was a situation where they actually over charged me for my glasses, but they called me the same day and went above and beyond to correct the issue. I received multiple follow up calls and the over charge was ultimately resolved and i had full trust that they would do everything to fix the error. The lady who helped me pick my glasses was patient (and I'm very particular) and made the whole experience very pleasant. I would highly recommend Proffessional vision. read more

Amazingly nice! I really trust Dr. Setrin. Today I had a contact lens exam with Dr. Setrin. He knows all about the various contact lens materials and the state of the art in this industry. He answered all of my medical questions and explained everything I needed to know about how to safely wear contact lenses. He was a bit impatient with my request that he explain every little change he made to the phoropter, but he is absolutely the best, most thorough eye doctor I've ever visited. He might be happy to talk about the early access he's had to special contact lenses. Aspects of my visit besides the exam itself were also exemplary. The staff was extremely nice, knowledgeable, and courteous. They made the glaucoma-testing process bearable and answered all my questions without seeming overbearing. The store itself is bright and airy, neither too cold nor too warm, and in a shopping center convenient to the beltway, REI, Zips, and some good lunch places. However, all this comes at a price: my contact lens fitting and eye exam, without insurance, cost $170. Given the high standard of care Dr. Setrin and his staff offer, I would recommend this office to all. read more

I've been very happy with Professional Vision for several years. I normally see Dr. Setren who is thorough. I have also seen Dr. Barnstein when experiencing problems with contacts and he was extrememly helful and able to solve my issue. I wear both contacts and glasses and have been happy with all of the above. Any time I've had an issue it has been resolved to my satisfaction. I think the office staff is friendly and helpful. Angelina at the Timonium office is particularly awesome when it comes to picking out frames. They have a great selection of designer frames if you are in the market! While the staff was very professional and courteous, there was a lot of shuttling back and forth many times which seemed unnecessary, and I found the communication poor. It was confusing, frustrating and then downright expensive when it came time to pick out glasses which must be where they make their money. First, while waiting for my eyes to dilate, the doctor sent me out to be 'fitted'. Being that it was my first time getting glasses, it wasn't made clear what exactly I was getting. The added discomfort of my eyes watering and stinging from the dilation didn't help either, and the clerk immediately started selling me on this high-priced lens even though I didn't know what I needed. After going back to the doctor to clarify, I came back out to look for prescription sunglasses. It took a long time to find something and I should have been clearer about my price constraints. However, after an hour, the clerk finally wrote up a proposal which initially was over $800 but with discounts came to $535. I was blown away at the price for one pair of glasses! So, after two hours spent there, I walked out without anything. While I appreciate that I got my eyes examined, the rest of the experience was poor and a waste of time. read more

I had an emergency and needed to see an eye doctor...that day. Right away. I managed to get glass and paint in my eye. I called Professional Vision (mind you I was crying cause I was in a decent amount of pain) and the receptionist said " Just get here and we will take care of you". And that is exactly what they did. Dr. Setren was amazing. Kind and gentle during my ordeal. The staff was so nice they even started to clean the paint from my hair and face as I waited to for my chart to be "discharged".
